cabrcras:
the past week had been a wild, wild ride for matty. the chatteau, bronte, and most of all beatriz martin had made it a week for the crazy books. their conversation in the kitchen during the aftermath of her event had been spinning through his mind nonstop since it happened. it was no secret that the two held some form of animosity. shallow animosity, admittedly, but still animosity nonetheless.
now, with that in mind, striking an alliance with beatriz would be a hard no in normal circumstances, but the rank wasn’t exactly normal circumstances, was it ?? both of them were fundamentally different people with a surprisingly similar circumstance: being seen as boring. now, beatriz had already proven she was game to play, last week was proof enough, but matteo still had his worth to prove and was already wildly off track what with his shit with bronte. maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to ally himself with someone who was willing, had proven the gall, and also had nothing left to lose.
nothing left to lose. that’s really what it came down to in his decision. what was really the worst that could happen ? he was already ( probably ) going to fail his first task, had definitely lost bronte and made things weird with sayre, and half the cast probably hated him !! he’d never had any dignity, so that was out the window. what was stopping him ? pride ?? maybe, but in games like this, pride was a necessary sacrifice to make. he was willing to make that sacrifice, falling in step with beatriz as she led him away to the dance floor. a small, bitter laugh escaped him at her words, “ oh, but i’m so good at being an idiot, martin. ” then, a sigh, the final nail in his coffin. “ and trust me, saying yes to this definitely makes me the idiot. ”
what sort of fresh hell had he just agreed to ?
so. that was a yes.
“ you don’t have to be an idiot, matty. ” she was coming to like using that name for him. it made her feel twitchy earlier, that’s saccharine matty, the result of forcing her mouth to say something it didn’t want to, even if it was to torture him, but now, she’d taken off his hands. matty. that was hers now. fuck getting to use it because she was his friend. she got to use it because she was his ally. “ i can teach you. i’ve got all the fucking time in the world, right. ” bea paused. “ get closer, i think they heard me saying ‘ fucking ’. ” if they had heard her saying fucking, it was because she had said it louder than anything else. she narrowed her eyes, waiting for a challenge from matty.
“ then again, ” another pause, so she could sway her hips and look over her shoulder, in search of someone wayward, bronte, maybe, sayre, that she could pull into her orbit and trap with them, ending a conversation she had started in the first place. no one was coming. “ you’re an idiot who agreed to an allegiance when you had no idea what it entailed, and some people just can’t be helped. go ahead, ask me what you’re gonna get out of this. wait. first. laugh. act like this is fun. ”
