So I’ve been thoroughly obsessed with pantheon and vampires smp and I’ve also been in my yearly escape the night obsession and that got me thinking
What if Vampire SMP had an escape the night au?
The main reason I’m doing Vampire SMP and not Pantheon is because I’ve not gotten around to watching some pov yet, plus vampires is done with so it will be a lot easier for me to cast roles with the vampires cast instead of pantheon.
First and foremost we need to establish a decade.
Knowing that it would take place in the town of Oakhurst I needed to think of a decade that would suit the town, saying all that I settled on 1850s. Mainly because it mostly matches the fashion of the cast and while some of the roles are a little iffy , most of them fit into the archetypes of the time period!
The Roles
Scott Smajor - The Savant
Scotts one of the easier ones to cast, in the series the castle is Scotts much like how in actual etn season one its Joeys house. This just feels like a good starting point for the rest of the lineup.
Owen - The Lumberjack
This was a very obvious one, Owen in the series was a lumberjack before he got turned into a vampire. He also said he was a lumberjack when he got to town, it just makes sense.
Martyn Woodhurst - The Con Man (The Confidence Man)
This is where a majority of my research for roles actually started. I knew I wanted to do something with the fact that Martyn looks like a noble but he's not actually one and that's when I came across an article called "The Rise of the Confidence Man in 19th century America" by Mathew A. McIntosh. He described a "master of charm, improvisation, and social engineering."
Now if this doesn't fit Martyn then I don't know what does. Martyn's whole backstory before he came to Oakhurst is he stole clothes from a wealthy noble. He managed to improve his way out of questions immediately gaining the trust of most of the town folks. Which is exactly what the confidence man does.
Jack Von Pyrosythe - The Correspondent
Pyro's role when he first came to Oakhurst was a scholar writing his thesis on Oakhurst. From what I've researched correspondents in the 1850's were sent to cover specific events and locations. For me this matches up with Pyros story of coming to Oakhurst to write on the town for his thesis.
Correspondent are said to be a pioneer in modern journalism, they were made to be able to shape public perspective and be able to build a picture through storytelling. Which I feel matches Pyro's character well. While Pyro never had power in life or death, with people like Scott and Czeslaw always having power over him. Pyro has shown he is an elaborate storyteller because of him claiming that he killed Czeslaw and of how he dramatized Avids death in the series.
Drift- The Sleuth (The Detective)
This is another obvious one. Drift in the series is a detective who came to Oakhurst after running away from her case in the capital. Which makes her being the sleuth an obvious choice. In the series she came to Oakhurst with the intention to find the truth behind the mystery of the town. Which again adds to Drift's role as the sleuth even more.
Shelby - The Folklorist
Folklorist are known for verbal storytelling for things such as myths, folklore, and legends. This role is perfect for Shelby because it covers her love for all things paranormal and mythical. It also covers her love for fanfics because folklore are stories that make up beliefs, customs, sayings and art of a group of people.
This honestly lines up a lot with Shelbys backstory because Shelby knows about the paranormal because of the stories her dad told her. Which lines up with the role of a folklorist to be verbally telling people about stories of folklore. In Shelby's case throughout the series, she tells people stories about bigfoot and tells them about fanfics spreading the word to the people of Oakhurst.
Legundo - The Combat Medic
Legundo was a tricky one to cast a role for because I didn't know If I wanted to go more with his soldier background or him being a doctor, so I settled for something more in the middle which was the combat medic. Legundo in my mind would specifically be portraying a line medic. Line medics need to carry medical supplies, along with everything else a soldier needs to carry. This puts a balance between Legundo's soldier background and his present job as a doctor in the series.
Line medics need to be able to handle stressful situations and be able to make life or death decisions on the fly. Which I feel perfectly matches Legundo's character because of his want to save everyone. Especially with his dynamic with the town as a whole with being one of the most responsible ones there. While this is not technically for line medics, soldiers do refer to most combat medics as doc, which is one of Legundo's primary nicknames throughout the series.
Renhardt Dogmourne - The Orator
Ren was probably the hardest one so far but after a while of searching I settled on the orator. I was thinking the orator because out of all the townsfolk Ren has given a lot of speeches, and he was also the most open against the vampires. His ending speech against them after Martyn dies being the main example of both of those things. Orators were known for giving political speeches and being politicians in general. While Ren isn't a politician in the series, he gives a lot of speeches not only about his beliefs on vampires but also for the moral of the town.
Apo- The Soldier
This was also one of the easier ones. In the series Apo came to Oakhurst as a soldier to set up an outpost. So, this just feels like the obvious choice because not only did she come to Oakhurst as a soldier, but she also was known as Ms. Militia by the other militia members. Theres not really a lot more I can say about Apos role, it just makes sense.
Cleo- The Farm Laborer
For Cleo I wanted to try and put everything her sire made her do when she was a vampire's thrall and the closest thing I landed on was a farm laborer. Farm laborers were tasked with planting and harvesting crops along with tending to the livestock. Alot like how Cleo's sire made her tend to the food/livestock, which was implied to be humans because of the conversation she had with Drift in episode seven. Farm Laborers for the season they work usually live with the employers, just like how Cleo lived with her sire's coven when she was under his control as a thrall. Cleo's life before Oakhurst makes it so her being a farm laborer makes the most sense.
Sausage (M) - The Novalist
This again is one of the easier ones, Sausage in the series is an author, a ridiculed and disgraced one but an author non the less. Sausage wrote about supernatural creatures and in universe wrote the 'Twilight' novels. Him being the novelist just makes sense.
Pearl- The Wolfer
Pearl at first was a hard one to pinpoint, but I think I found something that suited her well. In her backstory her parents were attacked and turned into werewolves, and in order to get revenge for her parents Pearl started hunting werewolves. So, imagine my surprise when I was looking and found that in the 1800's this was an actual occupation.
Wolfers were wolf hunters that made money by selling wolf skins. Most wolfers were men who failed to make money during the gold rush, so they found another way to make a profitable amount of money. While the goldrush aspect doesn't exactly mash up with her character the fact that there was a specific type of hunter known as a wolfer, is two perfect to pass up on.
Abolish - The Buttler, Society Against Evil Member
This just makes complete sense for Abolish's character, Abolish came to Oakhurst claiming to be a butler as payment for a noble man who took him in. Even if in the end this ended up being a lie I still feel like this is the best approach for Abolish's role.
Now for the more interesting part which is the fact that Abolish in VSMP is a part of a secret shadow organization that works with good vampires to kill evil vampires. Now in the world of escape the night there is a secret shadow organization called the society against evil that helps the youtubers throughout the night, which they did by leaving their symbol to help guide the youtubers along. The society against evil fights against the evil entities that plague the world, kind of like Abolish's organization.
Louis - The Helper
So, every season the youtubers have a helper that help them navigate and protect them from the monsters. The helpers also draw the cards/ names for when the youtubers go into the final death challenge. I knew I wanted this cast to have one and one character that is very prominent throughout many people's series is Luis. I figured it made sense, but if anyone has any better ideas for the helper I'm all ears!
Conclusion
If anyone has any better ideas for any of the roles, please let me know! And thank you for reading my rambling, I don't post that often, but I wanted to try my hand at a big post about two things I love a lot! I might come back and do the challenges and a death order, but that's for future me to figure out!
