Rodney Dangerfield Portraits
Gonerfest 17
Nine years ago we played a small run of shows in the USA, made possible by some passionate people in Memphis (and elsewhere, USA), who have been facilitating a connection between outsider garage rock of Australia and the greater USA.
These pics are of us are playing an arvo in Bruce Saltmarsh's (of Easter Bilby distro) garage, who hosted a pre Gonerfest Aus BBQ / BB gun tutorial, before the Australians attending collectively lost our heads at Gonerfest 2011 the next few days and nights (also pictured). Thanks Bruce.
This year Goner Records and Gonerfest 17 are doing things a bit different, meaning we can again feel a part of it, this time shotgunning beers in front of our computers, rather than in front of the servo next to the Hi-Tone.
Check out the link below for lineup details and ticket info- I'm (Ben) particularly excited about the Rodney Dangerfield art exhibition, cooking demonstrations and the world premiere of You Got to Move: The Sacred & The Secular in The Hill Country. $20USD for a little something for everyone!!

MEATSPIN 2019 RELEASE DRIVE
Finger-on-the-pulse Sydney label, Meatspin Records, are trying to put out 4 new releases in the next few months (or earlier if possible I think) but need help with preorders.
Releases include new bands Xilch (members of Diat/Rapid Dye/Perspex), Mum (members of Basic Human/Photogenic), Enderie/Call Combatible split (feat Enderie and Del Lumanta, two mainstays of Australian DIY music), as well as the debut 7″ from Basic Human, who are playing clobbering meat and papers punk music better than anyone in the world right now.
Run, don’t walk, to the link below and preorder TODAY

Next show, May 4, in celebration of King Takashi coming all the way from Tokyo to visit. It’s been 3 years since he organised our Japan tour, and now we can repay the favour by showing him around Sydney.

23 fans, the smallest crowd in American League history, witness A’s switch-hitter Wally Schang become the first player in major league history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game. The feat, not well publicized because reporters did not attend the contest, thinking the heavy rain falling at Shibe Park would postpone the game, will not be accomplished again in the AL until 1940.

What we’re up to this past month:
Doug- enjoying his honeymoon in Africa
Nic- celebrating his child’s first birthday
Ben- curing bits of pork fat under his kitchen sink
Joe- compiling months of google alerted snippets of radio presenters reluctantly playing our music on their radio shows

10 years of Bed Wettin Bad Boys this week.
Here's a playlist of 10 years of covers we've attempted, from Link Wray's Rumble in the previously mentioned disaster of a first show, to Thin Lizzy's Boys are Back in Town on our second Melbourne trip, to Alex Chilton's version of Boogie Shoes, we played for the first and last time recording LP #1 (for it never to see the light of day).
Purposely left off all the songs from the Kiss It covers tape. Basically go listen to Kiss Alive! if you want to here more Kiss songs we've covered.
It was only possible to see the full extent of the town if you spent many years there. Only then could you see the barriers shimmer at its edges, and know what the edges meant. Shaun Prescott – The…

Bed Wettin' Bad Boys - Rot LP (What's Your Rupture?)
RECOMMENDED
Am I just no longer qualified to write about music or is it understandable that, after way more spins than has usually been logged by the time I start writing one of these, I’m not really hearing The Replacements thing on Rot? As for the label’s (WYR?) quick-and-dirty blurb that ends by claiming Rot channels Columbus OH, let’s just say that the saxophone on closer “Turn the Page” is far from the only nod to The Royal Crescent Mob. Justfuckinwidya! But seriously, or as serious as I can possibly be at this moment, the ‘Mats drop isn’t all that accurate in totality and seems to dance way better with intangibles such as theme, attitude and general disposition. Aside from the impulsive speculation that this album sounds like what The Saints might have done during the '80s instead of suck, Rot actually sounds like an entire chunk of well-executed though fairly traditional American underground rock history. This album is at home being played at deafening volume during all manner of solitary driving. On the BWBB rep/backstory, these Aussies with the dumbest name ever have given us the perfect antidote to American “party-punks” such as dirt-stupid and sitcom-predictable shit like FIDLAR. See the sun come up for all the wrong reasons with Rot. Actually … don’t. I advocate for a good night’s rest; play this in the morning. (http://whatsyourrupture.bigcartel.com) (Andrew Earles)
