Jessica heard the man who helped her come over and went to stand up and put her pistol down. Though, she was still caution not knowing if this was a set up or not. Glancing over to him, with her hand still on her leg, she nodded her head.
”Yeah, just a scratch.” she said and looked to the man in front of her, ”Who are you?” she asked.
Know names was something she had to be decent at and knowing what this could be, she had to be cautious around him even if he did seem on her side. Looking the man over, she did see the pistol but he could have gotten that anywhere around here.
Kaidan tilted his head as he looked down to her when she responded to him.He watched her closely as she stood up and even when she was done moving. He did not have the luxury to put his guard down. But there was something about her that was telling that she was alright. That she was not going to do anything. Usually Kaidan followed those instincts. “Right just a scratch.” He said to her with a small shake of his head despite the blood that he was seeing. Of course she wanted to know who he was, what he was about. “I am Kaidan.” He said to her with a small pause, “I am with the Alliance.” He said as he pointed a finger behind him not turning away from her.
“Who are they?” He questioned before he asked who she was.
Kaidan smirked at her words. “Oh right of course. The little lamb that I am.” He said, though he was not really sure about the hospital food, he kind of wished that they would have let him cook on his own. he might have been able to bear it a little more. “But hey, two Spectre’s on the same ship, can’t get any better than that.” He said as he looked to the Normandy through the thick glass pane. “Though it might make Joker a little nervous.”
“Nah, Joker is too distracted by his robotic girlfriend.” A grin tugged at her lips. Ever since Menae, she had watched the two with some amusement. She didn’t know how the hell that was going to work, but that wasn’t really something she concerned herself with.
“So you accepted it, huh? I’m surprised Udina didn’t try and rope you into some other work.” She had never really gotten along with the councilor until recently, which was odd. It was weird how a crisis brought people together.
“Robotic girlfriend.” Kaidan said with a small pause, “Of course.” He said with a shake of his head. His eyes moved around the Normandy. “Oh it was not lack for trying.” He said to her. Though Kaidan was sure that he was going to get pulled off of the Normandy for something, sooner rather than later. It was not all that hard to tell with the ups.
The way that things were going. “Though I do not expect my time here to go uninterrupted.” he said to her in honesty.
No, no she was definitely alive. It wouldn’t hurt this much if she was dead. Eva gave an uncharacteristic cry as she was pulled from the rubble, pain shooting… fucking everywhere to be honest. From her vocal chords to her extremities, it felt as if someone had left her in the middle of a free way to be ran over until someone’s sadistic side had been satisfied.
How she had even ended up down here, when the Crucible had been up thousands of feet, was anyone’s guess. Eva would’ve guessed a crashing Crucible after everything had been destroyed. It’s what her body was telling her, but even she didn’t know the truth or have the energy to think about it.
Talking wasn’t something that definitely wasn’t going to happen, but she tried to focus on Kaidan’s voice. Or maybe her brain was just tricking her into believing it was his voice. It wasn’t like she had the strength to open her eyes. But it was a nice thought and she clung to it all the same.
Once she was pulled out of the rubble, it would be obvious that her armor, once pristine if somewhat battle worn, was now blackened and barely holding together. It had been damaged as she had made her way up to the Crucible and had only suffered more damage on the way back down. Without her helmet, she had several head injuries, blood matting her hair and caking to her skin. Her forearms were covered in blood and dirt and cuts. She looked, and felt, like absolute shit.
No, this was not going to happen again. Kaidan was not going to loose her again. “Hang on, I am going to get you out of here.” Kaidan said to her, maybe blindly but he did not care. Pulling her closer to his chest, he was able to get his arm under her legs. “Joker! Get a medical team out here now!” Kaidan said through an open link in his omni-tool. Standing up, he adjusted himself so he would not have a chance of dropping her. How foolish would he feel if that happened. It was a hard enough thing seeing her like this, but he was going to be sure that she made it though. No matter what he had to do, what he had to get or who he had to work for. Moving out of the rubble, he could see the skyline. At that point he saw folks moving toward him. Pretty much the whole team that had been down here looking for people, some he knew most he did not know. But what he did know was that they were there to help. “Get her over here!” Came a voice that rang in his ears, Garrus’. Kaidan looked down to her, getting her to the small camp that had been set up. It was not long before she was on a bed, one that might not have been the most comfortable but it was better than where she had been. The biotic just stood there as people moved around him and surrounded her. He looked to his hands, shirt and arms, covered in red stain that was not his own. Blinking a few times at the sounds around him. Backing off he felt a hand on his shoulder, Joker stood next to him. Though Kaidan did not look to him, he knew who it was. The medics now taking over.
Kaidan Alenko -
Time was rather meaningless when you were buried under rubble and every bone in your body seemed to have been compressed into dust. If she was capable of higher processes of thought, the last thing she would remember would be the Citadel and the Starchild who had offered her the ways to defeat the Reapers. Her goal had always been to destroy them. Years of dealing with them, thwarting them at every turn, had taught her that only total annihilation would truly put an end to them.
So that’s what she had chosen, ready to give up her own life if that was what it came to. And really, she was proud of herself. In those final moments, she was sure she had chosen what was best. Her, an orphan from Earth, who had never known her parents, who used to be nothing but a spec of dirt on a bigger spec of dirt, had saved the galaxy. Everyone would be okay. He would be okay.
How long she had laid there in the aftermath was a different matter. At first, she wasn’t even awake. Stress and exhaustion had shut her body down. When she awoke, she wasn’t even sure if she was alive. Everything was a hazy mess and she couldn’t feel parts of her body. Her helmet was gone. To where, only hell knew. A slow rhythmic breathing was the only identifier that she might be alive.
Until she heard his voice. Soft and comforting, cradling her name with hope. It pulled at her, pushed her to not give in. Her cybernetics and N7 armor had kept her alive thus far, but his voice was the rope in the dark.
It was sheer force of will that allowed her to groan, ever so softly, before a scratching pain bit at her vocal chords. Moving was out of the question. She was too weak. But she had heard Kaidan and she needed him.
Stalling for a moment, Kaidan listened to the quiet, thinking all of this was just in his mind. It was hard to tell with everything that had happened, that was going to happen. He wanted to make himself believe that she was still alive. In honesty he knew that in the back of his mind, that the chances were pretty low. His head turned as he heard the muffled groan, or moan, whatever it was. A sound that should not have been there. Regardless he then moved towards the sound, towards the might be false hope. But seeing what came into his view next, half of a body under the stone. His heart sank, lower than it had ever had. His breath stalled as he moved closer, but then he heard it again, her attempt to make noise. Any type of noise. The slight heave in her chest made him move faster. Using his biotics he moved the piece of heavy stone that was on her. Though he was sure that it was unruly heavy, he had not noticed at that moment. “Shepard!” His voice a little louder now, dropping the helmet at his feet. His body moved over the rubble that was near her, no matter how uncomfortable it was for him, he pulled her out as gently as he could manage. There was no words to describe his feelings about this moment. Hurt at the way she bound to be feeling, anger that the war had caused it, pure hatred that he was not able to do anything more to bring about the wrath on the Reapers, happy that she was alive or just plain nothing.
But regardless he felt the tears in his eyes move down his cheeks. Though he did not know what to say, or even if he should speak at all. Sure that the blood that was now all over him was hers. Kaidan held her like he had not seen her in the longest of times, as if he were going to loose her again.
Eva Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
There was no clear indication as to why they were all out here. Perhaps it was looking for survivors over all, but they all knew why they were here. London, England. Right where the beam had been. Kaidan looked up to see the unsettling remains of the Crucible and the ‘seen better days’ Citadel. But it was hard to concentrate on any one person when all you were thinking about was Shepard. One of the few missions he had actually be on where survivors did matter.
This city for the most part had been evaporated into nothing. The Normandy had even been crashed on a planet that was not Earth, but it being a high grade frigate was equipped to get about efficiently without the Mass Relays. The rebuild process was going be slow at the least, but at least there would be people to help it along. Kaidan moved over the rubble, not many around him. The SSV Normany and its crew were all near-by. Though they had separated to be able to look more accurately. Though Kaidan had never seen so many casualties in one place, so many dead. Alien or not. His pistol was not drawn, but he was also at the ready. It was hard to imagine the war really being over. The Reapers gone, all synthetic life, gone. He was still not sure how it had happened, how it had progressed to this point. But those facts were there, anything machine was just simply not there. But the mechanics were. The network was still there. Still moving slow through the rubble, Kaidan turned his head, out of the corner of his eye saw a helmet. Upon closer inspection, it was an N7 helmet. He picked it up, wiping it off as best as he could. It was hers. It cause him to frantically look about his surroundings. “Shepard?” He questioned a bit uneasy. It was quiet and his voice he could hear the echo in the rubble below him.
Continued from here
“Something has to be bothering you, Kaidan.” Rolling onto her side once he moved, she tilted her head, pressing it farther against the pillow. She wiggled to give him more space to lay down beside her. “What’s on your mind?”
Kaidan watched her as she moved to be on her side. It was easier these days, to watch her. Once she was adjusted he moved to lay next to her. “I am just happy that you are alright.” He said to her with a small pause. “I suppose hearing your heartbeat makes it more real.”
“Well, looks like someone is ready to get out of this hell hole and go play with the Reapers.” It had been some time since her last visit, but Kaidan looked like he was doing a lot better. “If you’re still feeling up for it. I understand if the oh so comfortable hospital beds and warm food made you a little soft.” Eva smirked teasingly at him.
Garrus chuckles, finishing off his current meal bar and pausing before the next. He’s heard it’s rude to eat while talking in much of human culture, but he’s also heard it varies. He’d rather avoid offending anyone. He’ll just forgo it. “Who knew bad driving could create such a bond?”
Garrus hums, leaning back in his chair. What do Turians talk about? “Probably the same things humans do, with added discussions on ‘duty’ and ‘honor’ and plates. I can’t imagine it being much different.” Humans had a few cultural differences from Turians, but gossiping and small talk will always exist between them. He wonders if gossiping is as looked down upon in human culture as it is in Turian.
“Humans are a tad harder for Turians to get a grasp of,” Garrus admits, crossing his arms. “There are so many of you with so many different cultures and ideas and beliefs. Turians? We’re more standard than we’d like to admit.”
Kaidan tilted his head at Garrus as he listened. Though he was not enclined to believe that he knew a lot about Turians, he knew the basics. This was really his first venture in really working with aliens. Being stationed on the SSV Normandy he thought would provide him more than a few experiences maybe with a few driving lessons. “Oh there are enough humans that also talk about duty and honor. Might even consider them more hard core than any species.” Kaidan said with a small laugh. He knew humans that were all about that business. Though Kaidan was a softer aspect of that, he would like to think that he knew his limits. “That is understandable, I do not understand most of us either.” He said speaking as if he knew the truth about it. But he had been around the block with more humans. Though the last Turian that he had really gotten to know, Kaidan had broke his neck. He was not sure if that should be said here or not. “But in short I think we are more alike than we’d care to say. Though there must be something about us that the command likes, we are both here.”
“Like a cake, then? I might have to try my hand at making one at some point if it’s not too complicated. I’ve missed baking.”
“Sure you could call it that.” Kaidan said to her with a small shake of his head. “So you know your way around a kitchen then?” He asked, because he did too. Something they at least had in common.
“It doesn’t hurt. It helps boost morale, actually. — Yeah, that’ll be the official story if I get caught or reprimanded. A morale boost.” With a satisfactory nod at his idea, Joker found himself a fork and went about working on the slice. Just as he was about to plunge into the cake, he glanced up at Kaiden suspiciously.
“You’ll back me up on this, right?”
It was then that Kaidan knew he would be a accomplice to this massacre of cake. He had just given Joker his reasoning. It was then that Kaidan sat down in the chair across from him gather the necessary utensils.
“I just might if you intend of sharing this delicacy.” Came his retort on the matter at hand. There was no question about it.
By Chance
Jessica heard the voice and went to move out from her hiding spot and knew their attention would be on the other man and not her. She shot and fired and got one of the men in the shoulder and then the leg.
Crouching back down before they noticed her, she went to check her pistol before ducking her head as they started to fire towards her again. A mix of trying to get the both of them.
At least military training came in handy even on her days off.
The wonderful thing about being a biotic was that most people did not know until it happened. And now it was one of those times. Charging up his pulses while still under cover, Kaidan then stood. He locked on to the nearest man, who happened to be the one that was not hurt, he tilted his head as the man flew against the hard wall to his left. Taking this opportunity he looked for the one that they had been shooting at. Pulling up his gun, as he walked by the two men, “Just, stay there please.” Kaidan asked in a rather snarky tone, but he was polite about it at least. Being aware of his situation, Kaidan did not put down the pistol that he had as he looked to the woman that was there. “Are you alright?” He questioned as he looked her over, but saw the red tint coming from her clothing, and he then assumed that she was not.
“Kitchen duty? No. When have I ever been that soft, Kaidan? You might actually enjoy it and what has ensued… Well, let’s just say if I were to find a fitting punishment, you will not be blessed with kitchen duty.” While her expression was exceptionally serious, Shepard’s tone underlain a stream of teasing.
Kitchen duty, a blessing. Yeah, some would have considered that to be so. “Well at least it will be something new then. Something I can look forward too.” Kaidan said to her with a small shake of his head. “However exausting it may be.”
