“average book has 3 narrators” factoid actualy just statistical error. average book has 1 narrator. William Faulkner, who writes on the back of a wheelbarrow & writes a gajillion narrators per novel, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

As i lay dying by William Faulkner
Thinking about Dewey Dell Bundren from As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and her lament of "he could do so much for me if he just would. He could do everything for me. He could fix it all right, if he just would" etc etc in regards to Dr. Peabody and how, because of the stream of consciousness narrative, it appears that she isn't just talking about her own situation; her lament could apply to anyone who's ever felt so powerless they just want to pour their strife into someone else's hands-- when you don't believe you have the strength nor right alignment of circumstances to alleviate it yourself.
Dewey Dell yapping because I don’t know where else to speak on it pt.1:
A detail I never would’ve noticed unless I re read that book was how Dewey Dells lie in her final chapter about where she got her money, telling her dad she got it from selling cakes (2 cakes for 10$ in 1930) was foreshadowed with important info in the second chapter of the book, Cora makes refrence to how she couldn’t sell her cakes for more than 2$ each. It future proofs the book with inflation and all, illustrating how out there her lie really was

Maybe I’m a lil stupid but I didn’t know what the book meant by Dewey Dell and Vardaman ‘sleeping together’ (as mentioned in like two of her breakdowns?) for the longest time but I think it just now clicked. They’re the least wanted children, born last and only as repayment for Addies affair, the family doesn’t have much money, of course they had to share a bed. It’s so obvious in retrospect

Finally bought a fresh copy of As I Lay Dying to annotate, the illness will get worse before it gets better. We have a harkness on it in class tomorrow everyone will be forced to listen to my Dewey Dell obsession
