You'll notice that me and your dad will come up with pet names that will completely and utterly embarrass you (well and each other really). As I write this, I am located in the Connect Airport Hotel in Stockholm. I miss your Dad like crazy and my phone is dead. Biggest life lesson is to always carry a phone charger with you.
To give you context on where I am in my life. Earlier this month I left Capitol Records to pursue my dream, to own my own aristy management firm. Your mom had a couple of crazy nights that led her to take a full leap of faith and just do it. If you open your heart to God and listen, His power is incredible.
Those nights included one of crying myself to sleep because of exhaustion and hurt, but waking up and realizing I won't let anyone get me down and to just go out and have fun. I jumped out of bed and texted Dick "I'll see you in 10 minutes." After hours at No Vacancy, Dirty Laundry and a night that ended up at our apartment in Hollywood our neighbors were not pleased as we hung out till 7am. Your dad slept through this all and was almost woken up by Kyle jumping in our bed.
That night was important for me because Dan found out I was leaving the company as I tried to tell all my artists I worked on that I would no longer be with them. My artists at that time included: Bastille, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Circa Waves, Grizfolk, The Heirs, Prides, and Seinabo Sey. I was standing there talking to Brittany (Dan's friend) and Dan came up to me and said "Please don't leave." I clarified that I was not leaving the bar any time soon and he pulled me closer and looked me in the eye and said "NO. Please don't leave ME." I realized someone had told him before I had a chance to say anything in person. I told him I would always be there for Bastille, whatever they needed. We discussed how I could further help them.
The next night I went out to Break Room 86 with a bunch of co-workers after my last Capitol Congress showcase (Sam Smith, Siletno, BJ the Chicago Kid, NF and Vintage Trouble were all there). Gotta brag, I had the hook up for Capitol and got us the best table in the house along with a kareoke room for several hours (couple thousand dollar value). I lost my voice after screaming at the top of my lungs. Kozak and I continued our adventure to strip clubs till 4 in the morning. We grabbed Toi Thai food before I came home and literally collapsed cuddling it. Only to wake up to Giusti's call that our morning flight to SF was cancelled and that I had to re-book.
That morning was when I decided - why don't I just start my own management company? I will build a company tailored to the artist's need. I was already going to reconnect with Justin Little that day. We met up in San Francisco and went around Outside Lands plotting how we'd move forwrad. I like to think I was inspired by all the vaginas in my face...
I used to be Justin's intern. Key lesson here, be nice to everyone. You never know who they are or what they will become. In October three years earlier backstage at The Head and the Heart he told me he wanted to start his own management company and that I would be the first call he'd make. I remembered that to this day. Uncle Finnoh was there that night when my car ran out of gas and told me to just chill.
So NOW, I'm in Stockholm. About to head out to Popaganda to see Seinabo headline the festival. I cannot express to you the excitement and hope I hold.
