antebellum prompt #1: minor house inspiration
house mormont
as of right now, i am working on updating the canon list. by that, i mean completely redoing it. we will be cutting down the list of families by a third to better suit the size of site we are expecting antebellum to become and to make things easier on us as admins. while we are doing this we would love some input from our members. what erin and i want to know is what characters you would love most to see on this site. maybe there is a blonde boy you think would be absolutelyperfectas a lannister or you really want to see a northern lord’s bastard with a freelander on the canon list. it can be as vague as “i want a tyrell-lannister marriage” to as specific as “a 45-50-year-old velaryon the targaryen’s queensguard”. we will happily take any and all suggestions since we aren’t just making this site for the two of us, we want our loyal and beloved followers to know that this site is for them, too.
- shani
p.s. look out our first well, this time around prompt coming up later today
still accepting these in our ask.
isn't daenerys stormborn the second daenerys targaryen? daenerys targaryen i was married to maron martell.
these are the targaryen monarchs, not all of the targaryens themselves. it's like how prince harry is known as just prince harry or henry not prince henry ix, only those who are given the title of king or queen are on the list.
a quick question for our followers regarding the ironborn canons:
since house harlaw has replaced house greyjoy as the lords paramount of the iron islands, would you rather we include them on the list of the great house canons (the one with face claims) or would you rather us have the greyjoys on that list instead?
Can we still share prompt 3 graphics we've made even if there's no written part? (ie if we made one for Robb can we share it still as inspiration or something?)
Sure, we'd prefer of you wrote something though. Even if it is just a sentence or two, or it kind of defeats the purpose of the prompt
If we do a prompt for a monarch with "alternative name" (is "the young wolf" et al) can we make one up?
I'm a bit confused as to what you mean?
antebellum prompt #3: harrion stark, called “the gatekeeper”, king in the north from 698 al to 728 al
“Over twenty years ago, the King in the North was the great King Harrion. He was a good king, good to his bannermen and kind to those who were not of noble blood. He was very prideful of the North and his land. For reasons unknown, he hated all those who lived outside of his kingdom, thought that the Northerners and those with the blood of the First Men were superior and that we did not need anything from Falcons or Dragons. Those from the Midlands and the South said he was mad, that we would have another Mad King in Westeros.
The last eight years of his reign he did not do anything terrible until the harshest winter in a hundred years came. King Harrion proclaimed that no one except Northerners would be allowed to enter his lands and under no circumstances was anyone allowed to leave. Those who tried were put to death. After the first year, supplies ran low. Without the trade from the South there was little to no food and even the most prepared families had to carefully ration their food. Even when the death count grew to twice that of the previous winter, Harrion stood his ground. They were of the North. They were strong. They did not need help from those beneath them. When the spring came, those in the Midlands and South waited and waited the borders to be opened, but the North remained isolated. There was no word of news from above the Neck except the few ravens from maesters to the Citadel.
Then, in one of the first days of summer, riders and ravens came down from the North with news of King Harrion’s death. His son, Rodrik, had taken over as King in the North with his first act being the reopening of the borders. King Rodrik spent the eighteen years of his reign attempting to reform ties with the ladies and lords below the neck and fixing his father’s mistake until his very last days as king. Now King Brandon rules and we can only hope he takes after his father and not his grandfather.”
Those prompts are great! I love all the work you are both putting in to the backstory of the site! :)
Thank you!! We can't say we aren't having fun doing it. And I'm loving what people are coming up with so far!
antebellum prompt three. baelor “the peacemaker” targaryen ii, king in the south 415-434 AL.
war. that was what made legacies. that was what people remembered. and his father, viserys “the wise”, was consumed with the idea of his legacy. he was at the end of his days. viserys knew it, baelor knew it, the entire kingdom knew it. his son had always wondered whether it was his carrying of that weight that led his father to support the war. he wondered if that was the reason why he sent so many men to die for a reason that baelor could never seem to find - legacy. it was never something the young targaryen had considered or bothered to give high regard to. he lacked the fierceness and ferocity of his father, and he did not go far to hide his disagreement with the war in his father’s company. it was rumored far and wide that on his death bed, viserys attempted to plead with his son to keep the war going. it was, however, baelor’s decision that went down in the history books. he pulled his men from the east, leaving domeric almost no choice but to end the war without targaryen support.
despite caring so little about his own legacy, it was his that started that day. the peacemaker.
it was that alias that followed him throughout the rest of his quiet life, a life full of peace and separation for the trivialities of war. he lacked the targaryen fire, a fact that left him different from both his predecessors and his successors. he lacked the need for war and action, contenting himself with a quiet reign unlike the kind the south had become well-acquainted with. having been saved from pushing more of their children and brothers into battle, the people looked to him fondly, enjoying the time of peace that flourished throughout the kingdom for nearly twenty years. it was an illness that took him over, leaving the strong, young man struggling for breath at the end of his time. the people lamented, for the long time of peace had come to an end and their beloved king was gone so quick.
Antebellum Prompt #3: Brandon “The Whitewolf” Stark VI, King in The North 496-528 AL
The harshness of the North flowed a little less in the Whitewolf’s veins, but he carried with him his own subdued mystery. His Targaryen mother allowed a brief flash of ash-blonde locks into the usually dark haired Stark gene pool, giving him his alias. It was said that it was unnatural to have a pale-haired Stark when he was first born, but the way he could blend effortlessly into the snow in the winter soon silenced that notion, especially when he lost all colour in his hair during his later years. Just as unpredictable as you would expect from someone who personified a clash between the hottest and the coldest of the great houses of Westeros, it wasn’t out of character for the Whitewolf to organise a feast and then cancel it just an hour beforehand because he didn’t feel like having one anymore, or to heatedly battle an enemy only to be calm and like brothers the very next week.
Whether he was a good king or not was a matter of opinion. By Southern standards he would have been regarded as one of the better ones, not being overtly cruel or malicious, but there was too much of his mother in him for the tradition loving Northerners to ever feel completely comfortable under his rule. Some had to admit that they were glad when his son ascended to the throne after the Whitewolf’s death, if only to restore some more of the Stark consistency into the North and to begin healing the burns his more fiery side had left on the kingdom.
What's the font you're using for the graphics (like the one in the sidebar)? I'm making something for prompt 3 and I'd like to use that font :)

prompt #3 - songs of kings and queens past (with a bonus preview)
for our first prompt this time around, third prompt overall, we have decided to do a bit of a writing and/or graphic challenged based around the previous monarchs of westeros. under the cut is a list of all of the monarchs since the war of five kings. what we want you to do is write a little story or song about one of these kings or queens with some sort of graphic, if you choose, to accompany it. this can either be a song sung at feasts of their great feats as kings or lesser known stories of their romances and indiscretions. feel free to write whatever inspires you the most. any monarch excluding daenerys i, daenerys ii, robb, rickon, brandon vii, and artys are fair game.
- shani & erin
p.s. you can still put up responses to our previous two prompts

* northern kingdom contained the north, iron islands, riverlands, and vale during king rickon’s reign
** willam stark split the northern kingdom into three during his reign. he gave a third to each of his triplet daughters. queen alysanne was given the north, queen alayne was given the riverlands and the iron islands, and queen alesandra the vale. alayne and alesandra rulled under their husbands names, tully and arryn, respectively.
*** edmyn tully was the last king of the riverlands and the iron islands. his oldest daughter was married to lucas arryn and the kingdoms were combined into the one midland kingdom. the tully’s gave up their royal title and were named the lords paramount of the riverlands, while house harlaw replaced house greyjoy as the lords paramount of the iron islands.
**** in 411 AL, a war against the continent of essos began and both of the (then) two kingdoms of westeros combined forces against the east. during the war domeric stark gained a reputation for his bloodlust in battle and his hatred of easterners, which earned him his nickname, "the butcher of the east". and while his father, viserys iii, fully supported the war, baelor did not. almost immediately after his father died, baelor pulled his soldiers out of the east and convinced domeric to end the war, earning him his nickname of "the peacemaker".
I feel like people are afraid of our tag. We don’t bite, we promise.
Are the admins making the same characters as before?
I don't know about Erin, but I'm not? I mean, I will be keeping some, dropping some, adding some, changing faces, etc. - Shani
just want to let you guys know that this site is being used as more incentive to finish the series (im halfway through clash of kings now...)
