Happy birthday to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi who was born on this day in 1876. Considered a key figure in modern art, Brancusi strayed from the naturalism of traditional sculpture and embraced simplicity by reducing forms to their essential elements. He also preferred to hand-finish each object, rather than the conventional practice of modeling and casting.
