The Daily Podcast's post-Oscars episode, "What Hollywood Keeps Getting Wrong About Race" was fascinating. Everything I've been reading/consuming lately has ended up being about understanding things that look super alien at first glance (pun intended?). @ibogost has an old piece in the @theatlantic about an episode of #StarTrek #TheNextGeneration from 1991 that covers it pretty well. I always loved Star Trek's desire to understand rather than conquer, since the captain of the USS Enterprise-D usually didn't know what the fuck he was doing.  In the words of that same Captain Jean-Luc Picard: “In my experience communication is a matter of patience, imagination.
