A/N - There have been over 30 failed drafts of this update. It’s pivotal. Events in this update are far-reaching and will affect many people in PV, and shall have aftershocks that ripple far into Season 2.
The designer is incompetent; the players refuse to play; the Game is in shambles. It would be so much easier without these complex rules, but they lend the required nuance to the true art of its existence.
Still achieving the true goal is essential and time is running out before the bubble bursts and the survivors are dumped. So just this once, against its every instinct and urge, the Game must act without abandon. The Detective has to die. It only takes Calliope, the gypsy woman, the player’s guide through all the wondrous chaos, with the pink gun to find the target, though he isn’t alone.
The Investigative Reporter tries to protect him, throwing herself in the way, pushing him back, but of the five shots Safiya only manages to stop two, and by the time he hits the floor, it’s over.
Safiya tries to catch him, one hand clutching her side as she stumbles and misses. She only manages to grab a hold of Dirk’s jacket, almost torn from her grip as he drops. She screams at him, to stay alive you idiot! He doesn’t respond, eyes glassy, a pool of blood quickly growing beneath him. It’s too late.
Dirk is dead.
Famine - Emile Picani
You hear the name and you think of hunger, scarcity of food. Their duties involve the inspiration of ambition, the drive to improve, to be the best, to have the best. A delicate balance that can very easily get thrown out of whack and way to the other end of the Yerkes-Dodson curve. They require a large amount of confidence and self-control due to the potential ramifications of losing focus due to residual power that they emanate.
“Famine” has mostly withdrawn from mortal society, though still present at various points, they are the second most difficult Existential Being to locate, impossible to track by even their closest comrades.
Lady Fate knows where they are but respects their choice to distance themselves from mortals.
Crazy protective
Reclusive
Known to: Lady Fate, Safiya, Henrik, Jak (The Writer)
War - Safiya
An unfortunate and unavoidable part of life. Wherever “War” goes they trail a burning desire to act, to fight. A need to defend or attack, whatever it takes to push them into the kind of fight which people generally don’t’t come back from.
“War”s duties/responsibilities are not really geared towards balance, more interested in invested in fueling the world’s development on a whole range of levels. But ever since “Pestilence” disappeared, “War” has insisted that there is something BIG coming, something this world is not ready for, and so they are trying to amass an army
“War” can ‘die’ in a way. When sufficiently injured, they will basically disappear, but over time, they will re-emerge and essentially in the end, “War” will never stay permanently dead.
Little to no faith in humanity as only ever sees the worst of it
Frequently collaborates with others, but always has control of the situation
Known to: Wilford, Julien (The Host). Henrik, Emile, Lady Fate, Jak (The Writer)
Pestilence - Henrik
“Pestilence” is supposed to maintain the balance between sickness and good health. Physically, mentally, socially, as well as the growth or suppression of various illnesses/viruses etc.
The problem is that “Pestilence” is missing., has been for a fair while now. The strain of this absence is visible if you look for the evidence. Not even Lady fate knows where they are, she just knows they aren’t dead.
"Pestilence” can’t die, though when sufficiently injured, they enter a comatose regenerative state until they are able to recover.
Positive but no nonsense
Missing for nearly 20 years
The Writer knows where they are but is bound by the laws of Reality and cannot tell anyone
Known to: Safiya, Emile, Lady Fate, Jak (The Writer)
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
Lady Fate gives you a smile that warms your heart as she tilts her head at you.
"I love you too Fia."
Death - Lady Fate
Though she much resembles the Grim Reaper in appearance, and arguably in her role guiding souls within the purgatory state, her duty as an Existential Being is much more based around maintaining the balance between life and death. It’s a delicate balance that needs almost constant care in the most unusual of ways.
Given her vast knowledge, perception, and ability to be exactly where she needs to be exactly when she is needed, Lady Fate gives the impression of omniscience, but there are some things even beyond her knowledge and understanding.
She has two forms, one appears human, usually draped in a long, black, floaty robe that typically billows around her in a non-existent wind. The other is arguably her true form, the one she typically reserves for when she is in the darkness between the living world and the Beyond. She appears as an enormous black mass, not smoke, not solid, not liquid. Unbelievably fast, and difficult to perceive from a human perspective.
The most powerful being in existence. Unable to be killed by anything.
In love with all of forms of life
Able to see beyond the limitations of existence and pass between realities without difficulty
Frequently interacts with The Writer
Known to: Dark, Wilford, Julien (Author/Host), Dai (---), Safiya, Henrik, Emile, Jak (The Writer)
