What age range can Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin play?

Hey, sorry for the delay; this blog is essentially inactive.

I know it’s an uncommon opinion, but for faces like that, I’d pay the most attention to how old the other faceclaims you are using. They could feasibly play 16-18 year olds if you weren’t including younger faces like Amandla Stenberg and Peyton Meyer as kids the same age. 

I’d say Melissa and Grant could easily play 19-26 year olds without any questions asked, though.

Setting your bio roleplay up for success

Give all of the characters strong connections. Compare the biography of a character with a devoted boyfriend, an ex with a long history they loathe, and an estranged sister to a character with a friend, an acquaintance, and someone that they dislike. The specificity of the first character’s relationships makes the much more fulfilling to play from the get go. Unless the player of that second character is particularly lucky or particularly charismatic, the second character is going to be doomed. There is no point in giving characters connections if certain characters are going to get the lion’s share of the established relationships.

Additionally, watch out for the number of connections each character gets. I’ve seen games where some characters receive five connections and others in the same roleplay receive two. And the bulk of the time, the character with two connections will only have one of them as a strong one and the five will have at least three. It’s perfectly all right for the number of connections to vary, but give all of your players something to go on. Bio roleplays can get cliquey more quickly if players fall into the trap of playing with easy connections. If you’ve sequestered certain characters away, then they may be left out.

And do watch out when writing shy or quiet characters; if they do not have a good reason to interact with other characters, then finding excuses can prove taxing. Less-chatty characters can definitely fit in well with a group, but these are the characters to give the strongest connections.

There is literally no reason for female bans whatsoever. Like.. none. You don’t have to have an even amount of female and male characters to make a roleplay successful.

Why I don't ship "Chemistry" anymore

I do think chemistry is important for a roleplay relationship, but I think it's pointless to say that's what my ships are when chemistry is not my priority.

Once I saw the ship list for a roleplay and just about every single person on that list put "chemistry" as their sole ship. What's the point of even having a ship list, then? Chemistry used to mean something, but it just doesn't anymore.

When I roleplay, I wind up having a good vibe with quite a few people, but I'm not going to pursue all of those potential relationships seriously if my character doesn't agree. Sometimes, yes, I've wind up in ships just because I vibed very well with the player's style. But that isn't enough. Just because I enjoy the banter between our characters doesn't mean we're going to ship.

My characters have a say in their relationships too! Chemistry isn't a good reason for two characters with dissimilar views to get together if my character doesn't want to. My decidedly gay character isn't going to try to make the straight thing work just because of that weirdly imprecise thing called chemistry.

In a 1x1 setting, I even enjoy playing out stuff when I don't have chemistry with the other player and character. Some of the most fun I've had is when we grate and writing does not flow so easily. That's not conducive for a group, but it still can be enjoyable.

In a group, yeah, I'll only go for ships where there's chemistry, but I don't want to put that on my ship list if it isn't my priority. I find ship lists useful so I can clarify when my character has a preference for gender or I really don't like certain ships, but I'm not going to put "chemistry" down, if that's okay.

I legitimately enjoy playing with less-than-literate roleplayers because I have *no* idea what they are going to do next, and it's the greatest challenge to stay in character.

I'm always kind and patient, even if they tend to drop the thread randomly.
