Stunning table by Belgian Architect Willy Van Der Meeren

A stunning work/dining table by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax. Notice the elegant proportions and a simple Prouvé-esque construction. Somebody should bring this back into production!

Standing moon by Nathalie Dewez

You know that soft light of the full moon when it's illuminating the infinite night sky. It's exactly that light you get when this elegant looking lamp is brightening up your room.

The lamp stands 180cm to 240cm tall, it is made of powder coated steel, a polycarbonat disk and flexible strip leds.

Observer by Jonas Van Put

Observer by Jonas Van Put is a chair which brings eye level to a height of 5.2 meters. Sitting on Observer, you can theoretically see for a distance of 8 kilometers!

You'd better not be afraid of heights to climb to the top. However, we would love to sit on this chair and see the world from a different perspective.

Concrete Barrel by Ministry of Mass

An industrial looking lamp made of metal and concrete. A combination they pull off nicely! Also looks very useful when needing an extra light source in your workspace. Ministry of Mass is a collective of makers founded in 2012 by David Braeckman and Sander Michiels. Be sure to check them out, they have lots of interesting projects! www.ministryofmass.com

XYZ by vormen

XYZ by vormen is handmade and has iron square tubes that are assembled according to the three orthogonal axes. The XZ-axes are connected and form the table surface. The Y-axis defines the height of the table.Oak wooden planks form the tabletop and gives it a tender look. Big fan of the design! PROFILE by Sylvain Willenz Design Studio

PROFILE is a super lightweight chair with a suprising construction system. The chair is made from natural fibre composite (NCF) tubes. Meaning it's almost entirely hollow. Aside from being clever on the inside it also is beautiful on the outside!

New work from Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen

We've got the chance to meet and talk with the lovely couple and design duo Muller Van Severen at the exhibition of their new work.

Photographer Fien Muller and sculptor Hannes van Severen started their furniture project in 2011, soon after, things started rolling. Last month they presented new work at the Valerie Traan gallery in Antwerp.

It's very interesting to see how Fien and Hannes, both with different backgrounds, started blending sculptural objects with furniture. Resulting in surprising choices and twists. For example, they often combine different functions in one single object.

We were very curious about their design process. Like a sculptor they hardly put detailed drawings on paper in advance, as soon as possible they start directly with standard profiles on scale 1/1. They like to think of it as drawing in space. Adapting and changing proportions as they go along. A very intuitive process which reflects in their work. They also try to keep this question in mind "Do we want to live with our objects ourselves?"

Rusted frames are a new and interesting development which came very spontaneously. By leaving the steel in it's original state it began to rust, resulting in a beautiful and honest color. Their other tables have a thicker top made from polyethylene, a material used to make chopping boards. Unlike their earlier work, the table tops are no longer encased in a frame which highlights the tactile characteristics of the material even more.

Finissage of Ben Storms and Alexandre Lowie

We visited the finissage of Ben Storms and Alexandre Lowie's Pop-up Vitrine Analog last Tuesday. The two young designers presented their work in a beautiful old building in the center of Ghent. Ben gladly talked about the production process of his table 'In Vein'. The marble top table can also be used as a mirror when put aside. The extending wooden ‘Copenhagen Serie’ by Alexandre is a table with a quality finish and craftsmanship. Available in many different kinds of wood. Coffee/tea- set Helsinki by Jolien Holvoet

Inspired by her stay in Finland Jolien made this beautiful porcelain set to light up those dark and cold days. The white color and simple shapes gives it a real natural feeling.

Cubex kitchen by Louis-Herman De Koninck

Who remembers these? The very first modular kitchen designed in the 1930's. What we really like is the focus on usability and functionality. These kitchens are meant to work in. A true icon of Belgian design! Bind chair by Jessy Van Durme

The Bind chair by Jessy Van Durme reminds us a bit of Scandinavian furniture, friendly curves and a lightweight wooden frame. The different parts, made of birch plywood, are hold together by leather strings. The softness of leather also adds comfort to the armrests and seating, a nice touch!
