Trips back into the unseen world were a rarity for Belladonna since she’d arrived at Cresthill but dropping the glamour had been such a treat, she couldn’t pass it up. There was nothing there for her, in the land of giant glowing mushrooms and fae castles, nothing but her queen and a renewal of her purpose.
She arrived beneath one of those giant glowing Mushrooms, looking up at it fondly, she looked forward, tilting her head, she grinned a wide, sharp toothed grin. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t my favourite courtier, Boggs.” she said to the shorter, wider fae.
“Personal messenger to her royal highness, actually.” he corrected.
“Oh, my mistake,” she said. She examined one of her long, shark, dark fingernails, “so would you care to tell my why I was summoned here then?”
“Her majesty has concerns,” said Boggs, satisfaction laced in every syllable.
She glared at him, “concerns?”
“About the quality of your work,” he inhaled sharply, “the Windhams and Marshes aren’t at each other’s throats anymore, are they?”
“Well, no, but that isn’t my fault!”
“The queen doesn’t wish to hear your excuses!” snapped Boggs.
“The queen isn’t here!” she countered.
Boggs smirked, “oh, isn’t she?” he said, but he sounded…
“Oh…” her eyes widened and she backed away.
Dark smoke pooled around Boggs feet, swirling up and up, obscuring him completely before fading to reveal the queen of air and darkness herself standing there, towering now above her. Belladonna trembled, dropping to her knees, “your highness,” she squeaked out.
“Belladonna, you’ve gotten pathetic since I last saw you,” she said with a sigh, “oh, and I had such high hopes for you. Setting burger kings on fire? Really? Is that what you believe chaos is?”
“You weren’t there, you couldn’t know how stubborn hey got.” she said through gritted teeth. “Give me another chance, give us another chance, I can ruin things again, I swear it.”
The queen was quiet, she smiled smugly down at Bella for a long time. Taking slow steps closer to her, the queen knelt down next to her, “but you’ve betrayed me, betrayed our kind. You are all to blame but someone must take that on.”
“No,” Bella breathed out.
“As my representative in town you have dishonoured me,” the queen sneered, “you’ve made me look a fool and for that I should kill you.”
Kill her? Not an altogether horrible fate, “I did what you asked me to.”
“No you did not. For the crime of pissing m off and refusing to take responsibility you are banished from my court. Leave here, leave the Cresthill frollick and go rot in the woods, get captured by casters like your stupid parents did”
Banished? Banished? From her queen? Mab? “Please, I love you my queen, I would do anything, let me make this right.”
“Don’t beg creature,” said mab as she stood. “You have thirty seconds to remove yourself from my sight.”
Bella did as she was told, she unfurled her wings and flew away, from her queen, from her purpose.
