How Can You Judge And Evaluate A Beer
This has been stated a number of times to all beer lovers; drinking beer is not all about alcohol, but about the experience of drinking the beer. It is a number of sensations, flavours, and experiences that you are having at the same time. Whenever you are sipping on a premium beer in India, you must always know about what you should be expecting from the first sip of the beverage. But how do you know you are drinking a premium beer?
Do you know how you can judge and evaluate a beer to determine if it is worthy of the title of being a ‘premium beer’? Or just about any beer? Here are a few quick tips for you to follow so you can also evaluate your own beer.
Examine: Start by looking at the bottle itself; actually, the bottom of the bottle. If there is tight sediment on the bottom, it is a good sign that the beer is good, while too much sediment is a bad sign. Also, check if the fill level in the neck of the bottle is too high or too low. If there are any rings in the neck of the bottle, it may also mean contamination of the beer.
Open and Pour: Open the bottle and pour it into a glass with a good head or foam on top. This will help release the aroma in the beer.
Smell: Get your nose inside the glass just enough to capture the released aroma from the beer. The aroma that rises from a beer has a lot to say about the ingredients that were put in during the brewing process. If you can’t quite catch the notes in the beer in the first go, try to give the glass a good swirl to release more aroma.
Look: Take a look at the beer. Check its clarity, its colour, and the head that has formed on top of the beer.
Sip: Take a sip of the beer and let it stay on your tongue for a while. Pay some attention to the sweetness of the beer and its level of carbonation, all the while trying to catch the real flavour of the beer. The best beer in India will carry a distinct tone of malted grains and spicy hops, creating the familiar taste of beer that we have all come to love.
Beer is a loved beverage for everyone, but that does not mean that every beer you try will be a good experience. Learning to judge and evaluate your beer is the first step towards enjoying better beers.Â
