So I know that it's been a while since I posted any of my writing, I have a lot of stuff going on. But this is a 100 fanfic that I posted on ao3 a bit back
Bellamy leans back against the side of the guard station, his eyes heavy. It's been a long few weeks, and winter is finally coming up on them. They're scrambling to find ways to fortify their shelters, and get food before it gets too cold. There's already a bite in the wind, and Bellamy can feel his nose stinging. It's dark, though the sun is starting to come back up. Meaning night shift if almost over. And once it is, he'll be going hunting again.
And Clarke mentioned going to get herbs and scavenging for a few other things, so he'll probably join her on that if it doesn't overlap with hunting. He's not too hopeful about what they'll find, but it's worth the shot anyway since there isn't much chance of them surviving winter without more food.
It's not long before people start to wake up, camp getting busy as it gets bright. Miller comes to relieve Bellamy, who immediately heads to where Monroe is getting the hunting party set up.
"Ah, good, you're here. What route are we taking this time?" she asks as Bellamy walks up.
"Different one, I'll be leading."
"Are you sure? What if we wander into Grounder territory again?"
"We won't. I got this."
Monroe nods, steeling her expression. "When do we head out?"
"Ten minutes, all of you get your gear." He waits, already having his gear from his guard shift.
The hunting itself goes better than he expected it to. They find a small bear, and manage to shoot it before it notices them. And Clarke is gearing up to go by the time they get back, so Bellamy leaves the skinning and preparing of the meat to the rest of them while he goes to find her.
"Hey, you coming with?" she asks, looking up with a slight smile.
Bellamy hums.
"Well, let's go. We gotta get back before dark," Clarke says, with a slight shiver as the wind ruffles her hair.
"Lead the way, Princess."
Clarke rolls her eyes, but she's still smiling. They start the trek to the lake where they found the seaweed.
"So, what've you been doing today? I haven't seen you since guard duty this morning," Clarke says, their shoulders knocking as they walk.
"Hunting party."
"Guard duty, hunting party, and now you're with me? You really need to learn to slow down," she says, refusing to look him in the eyes.
"And I will, once we're all ready for winter, which we're not. I'm not sure we will be."
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out. Together."
Bellamy grunts, teeth clenched. All of his muscles and joints ache, everything weighing heavier on him with each step he takes. They finally reach the lake, and Bellamy rolls his pants up, sets his gun by the edge of the water, then wades in. The water is freezing, and he clenches his teeth harder.
"Be careful, there could be other creatures in the lake," Clarke calls.
"I know," he says, slipping his knife out of his belt.
He starts grabbing seaweed while Clarke heads to the other side of the treeline to grab herbs. Bellamy turns to head back out of the water, and barely has time to blink before he's suddenly pulled under, and farther in. He hits his chin on the bottom of the incline. Sharp pain shoots through his ankle, and he turns, squinting to see in the murky water. There's a fish with pointy teeth sinking them into his skin, pulling him deeper. Bellamy stabs his knife into it's eye, yanking it out just as fast. It lets go with a screech, and he swims up. As soon as he breaks the surface, Clarke races over.
"Don't get in the water," he gasps, already shaking too hard to swim well.
It takes him a minute to reach the edge of the water, shaking and bleeding, his hair sticking to his face. Clarke grabs his wrist.
"What happened?"
"Damn fish. I was on my way back, didn't notice it. It'll be fine," he says, teeth chattering. She reaches over, putting a hand on his face, then pushing his wet curls back.
"You're way too cold. We have to get back to camp."
"Yeah, ok. Did you get everything you need?"
"Yeah, I got it."
He holds the seaweed out to her, and she takes it with slightly trembling hands. He limps forward, then kneels down to get a better look at his ankle.
"It's not too bad, not really deep. Just painful," he mutters, straightening up.
"Lean on me, we'll go faster that way," Clarke says, and Bellamy doesn't protest, though that only seems to worry her more.
He leans against her, lightly since he knows he's heavy. And they start the walk back, much slower than they came. The wind cuts through Bellamy with every step he takes. And he can feel his brain starting to shut down as the cold seeps into his bones. His eyes are barely open to slits, and Clarke is taking much more of his weight by the time they reach camp. Miller runs to get them, pulling the gate open.
"What happened?" he demands, taking Bellamy's arm.
"He got bit, and dragged into the water. He's hypothermic. He needs to get out of his wet clothes, and into the drop ship. It's the warmest in there. I'll be in with a blanket and something to clean up his ankle in a minute," Clarke says, handing Bellamy off to Miller.
She races off, and Miller takes him into the drop ship. "Get me a new set of clothes," he yells to Jasper and Monty as they limp past. He gets Bellamy sat down, and pulls his wet shirt off. Bellamy is practically listless by then, eyes drooping. "You gotta stay awake, Bellamy," Miller says, noting how little he's shivering.
Jasper walks in, holding out the clothes to Miller. "Thanks, that's all."
Jasper nods, watching for a few seconds before slipping back out.
"This is going to be awkward for me, and you if you're aware enough to know what's happening, but we gotta do it."
Bellamy leans his head back, eyes slipping shut. Miller gets him changed as fast as he can, doing his best not to bother the wound on his ankle. After he's done, he pokes his head out of the drop ship.
"Someone get Octavia!" He kneels down by Bellamy, patting his cheek. "Hey, wake up. Come on, Bellamy."
Bellamy cracks his eyes open, squinting. Octavia walks in, arms folded. Her attitude fades as soon as she sees Bellamy, pale and listless against the drop ship wall.
"Bell!" she practically yells, lunging towards him. "What happened?"
"He's hypothermic, and got bit. Can you keep him awake while I try to find any spare jackets?" he says, though he's already pretty sure that there aren't any.
Octavia nods, cupping Bellamy's cold face in her hands.
"O," he whispers, blinking slowly.
"I'm here. I'm here. Are you ok?"
"Itss cold," Bellamy murmurs, tongue heavy and thick.
"I know, and we'll get you warmed up, ok? You'll be fine," Octavia replies, then gently kisses his forehead. She gently presses his curls, getting the rest of the water out. Her hands are cold just from squeezing the water out. Bellamy leans into her hands as Clarke walks back in with two blankets, bandages, and a small bottle.
"Hey, Bellamy. It's good that you're awake… Can you help me lay him down? I'm going to take care of his ankle, then we'll cover him up."
Octavia nods, and gently grabs his shoulders. They pull him onto the floor, his eyes wide as he's jostled. He's starting to shake again, softly but there. Octavia holds his hand as Clarke disinfects his ankle. He winces, but doesn't pull away. His fingers curl around Octavia's, blinking hard.
"Shhh, I know. I'm right here, and you're gonna be ok."
Clarke bandages his ankle, settling back on her heels. Octavia grabs the blanket, and lays it over him. She tucks him in, thinking of when he would do this for her every night. Tears spring to her eyes, his big eyes and soft smile filling her mind. His bedtime stories ringing in her ears. His head tips to the side as she tucks him in, eyes rolling as he tries to keep them open.
"It should be ok for him to rest for a bit now. Wake him up every hour or so to check his coherence, and make sure he's alright. Otherwise, we just have to hope it doesn't get too cold tonight. I'm going to speak to the guards on shift tonight about the situation so they know to come if you call for help," Clarke explains, wringing her hands.
"Ok, thank you," Octavia says, her eyes not drawn away from Bellamy for a second.
Clarke nods, slipping back out, and leaving them alone. Octavia lays down beside Bellamy, tucking her head into the crook of his neck. His skin is cold against hers, his breathing shallow. Octavia finds herself drifting off as Bellamy's shaking peaks and slows down. She wakes him up a couple times before then, but he doesn't really say anything. So she lets him go back to sleep. And when she wakes up again, there's light creeping in, and Bellamy has his arm around her, tucking her closer to him. His color is better, snoring softly.
And Octavia finds herself taken back to their younger nights once more. Bellamy snoring softly into her hair, and tucked around her in case he needs to get up and hide her quickly. Aurora away in her own bed. Bellamy ran warm, so Octavia would curl closer. It was always cold in the room, making her shiver under the floorboards every time she was shoved there. Bellamy isn't warm now, he's cold, though not freezing like the night before. Octavia sits up, her hand on his chest, and his arm dropping to the floor. She pats his cheek, his eyes fluttering.
"Bell, wake up."
He stirs hand reaching to rub his eyes.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" she asks, leaning back to get out of his face.
"Tired, and heavy. My ankle hurts, but I think something bit me yesterday, so that makes sense."
"You remember yesterday."
"Most of it. I don't remember after getting to camp, and the walk back here is foggy." He sits up, wincing as he pulls his good leg up to his chest. "What are you doing here?"
"I was keeping an eye on you… I know we've fought, and I'm still mad… but I care about you. And I know you think you're helping."
Bellamy nods, eyes locked on her face, a bit cloudy still. "I care about you too."
Octavia nods too, hugging him tightly. He wraps his arms around her, and places his face in her hair, closing his eyes. Imagining that for one minute, they're back together, somewhere safe. With their mother off somewhere, and not dead in space. Where everything if fine, for just one minute.

THE BEST COUPLE. You can't tell me those two weren't soulmates, they constantly gravitated towards each other, never stopped loving each other and, even when they were broken up, they had the best chemistry out of all of the couples on the show. They should have been endgame.
