Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ~ JK Rowling
great expectations | bellatrix&lucius
lucius:
“No need to get snappy. If you don’t want me to say you’re speaking like ugly people do, then simple don’t say something an ugly person would say.” Lucius smirked, shifting from one foot to the other, arms crossed loose over his chest. In honestly, he could probably argue away anything with the silver tongue he had, regardless of if he believed the words he spoke or not. “You’re being daft, Bellatrix,” he said, mild in tone. “Of course babies aren’t my audience. However, babies aren’t as conditioned as you or I, or our contemporaries. Which means anything they do is based on instinct. If a baby responds better to a pretty face, that is their instinct. If it is instinctual, you know that reaction resides in a more mature personage. Knowing this is a great advantage.” He raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong with making someone fall in love with you? I would think that someone in love with you is quite willing to be loyal. No one said you have to love them back. Make them love you, and use them for whatever you intend of them. Why cast aside any personage that grants you loyalty, regardless of it is rooted in love?”
Bellatrix had a theory that everything that fell from the lips of Lucius Malfoy did so only in an attempt to get a rise out of those around him, yet she always allowed him to succeed. “Being attractive will only get you half way through life, especially for a rubbish dueler like you,” She insisted. “If you get anything based on your looks, it only means that you aren’t smart or skilled enough to truly earn it. ... In fact, you probably shouldn’t depend on your looks to get you anywhere. It’s our last year at Hogwarts, you know. Don’t you reckon it’s finally time to put down the mirror and pick up a book?” Despite his compelling argument about loyalty, the girl refused to hear the reasoning, and shook her head. “Love is messy and stupid. It makes people act like fools, and I don’t care for the loyalty of fools,” She firmly stated. “I’d rather kill the person who loves me than have to fight beside them in a war.”
amycus:
“Slughorn’s easy to get around, just promise him you’ll mention his name to someone important and he forgives anything.” Amycus rolled his eyes but shrugged slightly, “Fine, because we won’t get caught.”
“Alright,” Bella said shortly. Though she didn’t wholeheartedly trust the stealthiness of Amycus or the daftness of the Prefects, the fact that he had agreed to take the blame was enough to satisfy her. “Either way, let’s make this worth my time, yeah? I’ll be damned if I’m losing sleep just for some rubbish late night stroll with you.”
tiger teeth | bellatrix & emmeline
emmeline:
“Eagles eat snakes.” Emmeline pointed out as she forced herself not to stare at Bellatrix’s lips. “And I bite back.”
They had kissed, the pair of them. Now that they shared the same space Emm was certain it hadn’t been a dream. She couldn’t dream up the way her heart kept skipping beats, the way her skin felt static-charged. They’d kissed and sure that had to mean something to Bellatrix, because it had meant something to Emm. They needed to talk about it. Emm needed to talk about it.
“Is there…. is there somewhere we can talk?” She asked, very aware they were in the middle of a hallway. She had no idea how many other girls Bellatrix may have kissed but Emm, she didn’t really do this sort of thing often.
The corners of her lips, pursed in an arcane expression, twitched with amusement at Emmeline’s adroit response. “So you are a Ravenclaw,” She drawled, though she had never earnestly doubted the girl’s place.
While Bellatrix hoped that the word talk as she intended it didn’t entail its usual meaning, she could tell by the girl’s demeanor and from the little that she knew of her personality that Emmeline was the sort to want to analyze every interaction. She’d want to talk about their kiss and why it happened and what it meant, whereas Bella wanted neither to think nor talk about any of those things, and was only curious to discover if it would happen again.
“I have a rather full schedule today, but I suppose.” Even if she didn’t share a dorm with one of her sisters, however, she had no intentions of introducing a Ravenclaw to the Slytherin Common Room. “There’s a classroom in the next corridor that the Dueling Club uses for practice. It should be empty now,” She said. “We can meet there in five minutes.”
A Bellatrix & Narcissa Black Moodboard Aesthetic
“There once was a girl who found herself dead. She peered over the ledge of heaven and saw that back on earth her sister missed her too much, was way too sad, so she crossed some paths that would not have crossed, took some moments in her hand shook them up and spilled them like dice over the living world. It worked.”
A Bellatrix & Andromeda Black Moodboard Aesthetic
“There were once two sisters who were not afriad of the dark because the dark was full of the other’s voice across the room, because even when the night was thick and starless they walked home together from the river seeing who could last the longest without turning on her flashlight, not afraid because sometimes in the pitch of night they’d lie on their backs in the middle of the path and look up until the stars came back and when they did, they’d reach their arms up to touch them and did.”
You talk too much. Always have. You have to talk to make sure you’re alive.

alecto:
Alecto turned sharply to Bellatrix. Though the words may have sounded like an insult, she knew that Bella did not mean it in that way. She simply nodded. “I know,” she said “And when that day comes I’ll be ready.” Just because Alecto didn’t like getting her hands dirty in public it didn’t mean she didn’t like getting them dirty at all.
Bella flashed the other girl a wicked smile. “You should start now then, ay?” Her gaze returned to scene, where the boy who had earned Alecto’s wrath succumbed to pain and public humiliation at the hands of the ruthless Slytherin boys. “Next time, call me,” She advised. Nodding towards the fight, she added, “If those idiots can do it, then you and I can do it better.”
amycus:
“Loosen up,” Amycus said, giving a slight roll of his eyes. “It’s two minutes past curfew, no one’s going to care if they spot you in the halls, just say you’re on your way to your common room,” he shrugged one shoulder as he spoke.
“Last time I was out passed curfew, a bloody Prefect nearly dragged my drunken arse to Slughorn,” Bellatrix informed him. As unpleasant as run-ins with Prefects were, the sound of being told to loosen up was even more so to her ears. “If anyone stops us, Carrow, I’m throwing your arse to the wolves to save my own,” She warned.
great expectations | bellatrix&lucius
lucius:
Despite Bellatrix slewing insults towards Lucius, he didn’t seem very bothered by them. Instead, he just watched her little tirade in silence, with just the hint of a smirk gracing his face. “Bellatrix, dear. Only ugly people say such things.” He cocked out a hip and placed a hand there. “If you look good, that says something to people. It says that you care about presenting a good face to the public. That you care about being well-liked. And don’t let the silly Hufflepuffs tell you that your heart is what matters, or the ridiculous Gryffindors tell you it’s your nerve, or the exasperating Ravenclaw tell you it’s your mind. It’s none of those things. It’s the face you’re able to put on. If people like you, you will get somewhere, Bellatrix. And the first step towards that is them liking your face. It’s a natural instinct, really. Babies respond better to attractive faces than they do to unattractive ones.”
Though her words were consistently adamant that appearances meant nothing when compared to the much more important qualities by which to judge a person, such as skill and wealth, the sleek eyebrow she raised in response to his words suggested a view more similar to his than she would ever admit. “Watch it, Malfoy,” Bella hissed. As he continued, she shook her head, the corner of her lips twitching as he countered the philosophy of every competing house in a single sentence. If nothing else, Lucius was undoubtedly entertaining. Suddenly her face twisted into a sour expression. “Are babies your audience of choice, now? Don’t bring up such disgusting topics.” Shaking her head to herself, she was quiet for a moment before inquiring, “If you’re such an expert, then how do I look good without making people think that I care about being well-liked? I want people to fear and respect me, not fall in love with me.”
tiger teeth | bellatrix & emmeline
emmeline:
Rabastan hadn’t managed to scare her out of the dungeons. All he’d really managed to do was put her already frazzled emotions to tatters. She still had classes to get to and breakfast to eat, yet she kept pacing up and down the halls of the dungeons trying to remember which wall lead to the Slytherin commons. Not that she knew how to get inside, but at least she’d be nearby to find Bellatrix when she left. If she hadn’t left already. Merlin’s beard.
She ran a hand through her hair and huffed, staring at one of the slightly damp walls as if it had caused this whole mess to begin with. One kiss, one bloody kiss that Emm still didn’t quite know what to make off, barely even remembered how it happened, and now she could hardly focus. Some bloody Ravenclaw she’d turned out to be.
Then the sound of footsteps startled her out of her thoughts and she turned, relieved and terrified all at once as Bellatrix Black came striding towards her.
“Oh. So I am in the right place.”
The appearance of the foreigner in the dungeons hadn’t properly caught the attention of Bellatrix, and likely wouldn’t have, until it caught that of Rabastan Lestrange. A few lower years giggled at the sight of the odd pair, and Bella paused on her way back to the Common Room to inspect the scene for herself. She was nearly amused until Rabastan walked away, revealing to Bella the identity of the seemingly lost girl. She frowned. Pursing her lips and glancing around the corridor hastily, she started towards Emmeline.
“Last I checked, actually, the right place for you was a few floors above,” She corrected, an eyebrow quirked as though she was waiting for an explanation. “You are a Ravenclaw, aren’t you?” Arms crossed over her chest, she leaned in close and warned lowly, “The snakes will bite if you’re not careful.” When she pulled away, she was smirking. The whole ‘deer caught in headlights’ look was sort of cute.
“Were you looking for me? How flattering... and stupid. Snakes really do bite, you know.”
the interpretation of dreams | bellatrix&narcissa
narcissa:
Narcissa quirked a brow at her eldest sister’s response. “No Bella, you assume that I would help you if I was in a bad mood.” She replied with an almost too sweet smile, though her words rang true. Bellatrix had always been one for assuming that Narcissa would jump through hoops for her sister, and perhaps there was a time that she would, but as she has gotten older and come in to herself, learning to say no and to stick up for herself had come with it, even if her sister refused to see it.
“You realise that when you and Andie ask me that question, I reply yes to both of you, right? I love you both equally.” She could tell that Bellatrix probably wouldn’t hear her response, but she made sure to get it out there anyway. Letting out a sigh, Narcissa set her book to the side and shifted in her seat. “Why don’t you just tell me what you want me to say, hm? Because we’ve gone from you asking me to tell you about my last dream, to you telling me to imagine something you want to hear…”
Regardless of however much or often Narcissa displayed maturity and independence, Bella was obdurate that the little sister who currently sat across from her was not far from the little sister she, as the eldest, had always needed to watch over and protect. With the sense of separation that had only grown since the start of their Hogwarts years, she felt an obligation to ignore any difference between the then and now of their sisterly relationship, as though ignoring an unpleasant realization for long enough would simply make it go away.
“And the next time Andy asks you that question, you have my permission to lie,” She granted with an arrogant smile. “You and I know the truth.” At Narcissa’s question, she groaned. “Cissy, why are you choosing today to be difficult? Simply tell me about the last dream, or nightmare, that you’ve had. I don’t care for which it is, but I can’t make it up. I’m a Virgo, and I can assure you that our fantasies are very different.”

ZODIAC AFTER DARK ☛ Virgo

remus:
Remus was entirely not in the mood for this… crap from Bellatrix. He vaguely listened to her blabble but he really didn’t care. “I don’t care what Slughorn does to you, as long as you’re not my problem anymore. Sirius is a better human than you’ll ever me.” He said as they made their way down the stairs towards the dungeons.
He followed behind her still when she continued. “I’m a prick, what about you. You’re a bully, you’re rude. You make most people feel like shit around here. I have so many things on my plate, so no I can’t relax, I can’t chill out on stuff like this. Usually if you were sneaking out for a fag, or just needing some fresh air, I’d be fine with it. The other day I caught your sister, did I escort her out. No. Because she’s not a drunken mess galavanting the halls. So come with me, shut up, so I can finish this damn duty and go to sleep.” Remus hadn’t meant to be so harsh, but so close to the moon he was getting little sleep and became very ratty, usually it was the marauders who took the brut force, but today it seemed to be Bellatrix.
“Yeah, but he’ll always be a Black,” She said, more thoughtfully than aggressively. “You can take the boy away from the blood, but you can’t take the blood away from the boy. It’s his nature.” Whether or not her words made sense wasn’t a particular concern of her’s in the moment, though neither was her martyr of a cousin.
As Bella listened to the person he was describing, she had to admit that it certainly sounded like her, yet she cast him an odd glance nonetheless. “If you’re trying to hit on me, you’re wasting your time. I’m not sleeping with you,” She said bluntly. “You’re rubbish company. A bit odd, and not in the good way. Definitely not my type.” Her interest peaked at the mention of her siblings, and she quirked a brow. “Cissa or Meda? I bet it was Meda, wasn’t it?” She guessed. “If I was gallivanting the halls, I was gallivanting for my dorm, because that’s where I was going. Really, you’re just keeping us both from sleep.”
