🥍 - Kira becomes the lacrosse team's captain (Malira)
(context: a few lines before, Malia revealed that she didn't start the book assignment that's due tomorrow and, just before Kira could say something, Scott went "??? The book is 200 pages and the assignment was given 2 months ago???" To which, Malia just groans. Scott then leaves to talk more with Stiles so Kira and Malia are now alone.)
"I only read 5 pages of the book so far," Kira admits in one breath, looking at a cloud with an embarrassed grin.
Malia chuckles, her eyes never leaving the sky, and the laugh fades into the sound of the bell ringing. Yet, they both stay here.
With a soft sigh, Malia suddenly says, "It would be cool if you could shift. Then we could both live in the forest. I could be a coyote again and you'd be a fox. No books to read."
Kira frowns slightly, turning her head to look at Malia. Something about what she said made her both incredibly happy and incredibly sad. Malia turns her head as well and gives her a sad smile before getting up and offering her hand. Kira takes it, still a bit stunned.
It's only as they both make it into the school that Kira manages to say something: "You have grass in your hair."
Malia hums and glances at her. "You too."
Petrified, Kira rushes to the bathroom to look herself in the mirror.

For @kirayukimuraappreciation, Day 3: What If Wednesday
The auburn sunlight of dusk prickled Kira’s eyes as she dashed forward along the rooftop under the cloak of early darkness. The hoodie obscured her sight but her legs knew her destination, just like a dance. She followed a choreography along the edge, leaping into the air and landing on the opposite building with only a moment of recuperation before sprinting away from her pursuer once more, always just a few seconds ahead, but seemingly maintaining a gap her chaser couldn’t bridge.
Still, shaking the guy off was a challenge - he was skilled in keeping pace, after all - and Kira had only a fleeting moment to think of her next move. Gracefully, she jumped across a narrow alley, aiming for the parallel building, and found a grip on a balcony’s edge with her muscles straining to keep her up while she gathered the strength to launch herself onto the fire escape that curled down the side of the building. She didn’t waste time with the stairs, but merely hopped from one platform to the other until she was safely on the ground and sweeping easily past ordinary civilians blocking her way. She was like a shadow floating across the crowd with the setting sun guiding her towards the industrial building a few blocks down. From the distance, she could easily discern the helicopter on the roof and the dark figure boarding it – her target.
She made quick work of weaving past the people and bursting into the edifice, which, as expected, had no elevator. Her calves would feel the burn, she knew, but she ascended the stairs as swiftly as she possibly could with the echo of another pair of footsteps chasing after her. There was no need for momentum as the door flew open to reveal the helicopter rising into the air and about to leave the premises, and Kira took a deep breath to prepare for the flight.
Just as the helicopter crossed the roof’s edge and hovered above the busy street ten stories high, Kira flung herself over the gap between the building and the vehicle, and for a moment, she felt like she was flying in an unnatural, and yet exhilarating way for a fox. She grabbed the helicopter’s skids with both arms (and a pained grunt), but the bruises disappeared as quickly as they came. She dangled from the bottom with the sunlight warming her face and gravity doing its hardest to yank her down into certain death. She held on, though, with a laugh as she noticed her chaser calling someone - definitely the target - from the roof she had thrown herself off of.
Then, arms reached out of the helicopter to pull her into safety, and she continued to grin even as she found herself on board with three other cast members.
“Dude, I have no idea how you do these things with a smile,” One of them commented with a pat on her back, “Awesome job as always, by the way.”
“Yeah, my money’s on you being secretly superhuman,” Another said with a wink and a bottle of water offered to Kira.
She took a sip as she watched the late afternoon’s light cast the city in a colourful parade, and she gave herself a minute to lament the fact that this was the last of the major stunts needed to be shot for this movie.
Even at home, she couldn’t help recalling that feeling of flying. It was freedom and fear at its rawest form, and Kira absolutely lived for it. When she first returned from the Skinwalkers, she was beyond confused and lost over the direction she wanted to give to her life. All she had known was that she needed a change of scenery, so she moved to LA with no plans, but all the more hope.
Finding the movie industry and doing daring stunt after daring stunt became her life. It was freedom: she didn’t need to hide her strength or skill set. She could live to her (almost) full potential, and experience things she never would have otherwise. It was also therapy, she supposed, running because you had to perform instead of running for your life like she did back in Beacon Hills.
“I see you’re still alive.”
Kira smiled and sat up in bed, burying her face in Malia’s stomach when her girlfriend came closer.
“The shooting went without trouble,” Kira emphasized with an affectionate glimpse up at Malia’s blank face - she was worried, as always, “You know that nothing bad could happen to me there.”
Malia sighed and sat down, letting Kira crawl into her lap and nuzzle at her throat.
“I know,” Malia said softly, her arms protectively enveloping Kira on instinct, “And I know it also makes you happy. Right?”
Kira pulled back and gave a series of enthusiastic nods. “Very much.”
They shared a smile, foreheads touching, before Kira’s grin shifted into a wicked smirk more reminiscent of a vixen.
“Do you want me to show you some of my more… acrobatic moves?”
Malia held her a bit more tightly, her reply just as teasing as her wandering hands: “You know I could never stand between you and being a show off.”
Kira burst into a pit of laughter, which served as a great distraction for Malia to tackle her onto the bed, a loving gaze following the sounds bubbling up from Kira as she prepared to show her girlfriend that there were more ways than one to experience flying.
