#TBT - I did these #blindcontour drawings of yogi Jessamyn Stanley in 2016 because she was so inspiring with what she could do with her body. She gave me hope that I’d finally master challenging poses. I also related to the otherness of being a Black body in a sea of thin, white bodies that often acted as if I had no business in the yoga space. : : I’m talking not wanting to practice yoga next to me, or even asking me to move my mat away from them, to just staring me down like some sort of alien when I walked into the room. : : So, shout out to @mynameisjessamyn because white women have been losing their shit for days over a picture of her literal Black ass & threatening to unfollow because it’s “not appropriate yogic behavior.” 🤔And she just keeps posting more pics of her big ole butt. 😂😂😂 : : Listen, I get that seeing a big butt can be jarring when it fills up an entire IG frame, but it’s just a butt & if you can’t handle it keep it moving. It’s not like she hasn’t always been scantily clad, with a nip slip here & there, in her yoga vids, so I don’t get the outrage. : : No need to pass judgment. No need to chastise or try to shame someone because they are more comfy with their body than you are with their body, or with your own body for that matter. : : Dig into your own hang-ups before you try to pin them onto other ppl. And realize that everything you think & believe is a result of conditioning based on what your family, culture, environment, etc. fed to you. Oh, and believe it or not, you are not the arbiters of appropriateness. Unless some one or something is being harmed against their will... #LiveAndLetLive : : #art #style #design #creative #culture #instastyle #instapic #beauty #blackgirlmagic #blackgirlsrock #inspiration #wanderlust #photooftheday #me #girl #writer #blackgirlswhoblog #fortheculture #bodypositivity #healthateverysize #yogaforeverybody https://www.instagram.com/p/BxhLJMZpe78/?igshid=24umorarwcq
