He had been mostly raised by two women who could do anything a man could do in a dress and heels; he didn’t really assume when it came to stereotypical gender roles.

“Belle…what a lovely name,” he murmured. Certainly matched her looks but he couldn’t flirt with her. He had to be professional, “You’d be surprised how often I’ve heard that,” he joked, stepping inside, “Usually not a positive different, more like “you’re weird” different. As for what I know… Not much. People are ending up dead on a common road, and it’s got to be a real monster if you’re not able to handle it by yourself. You’re quite famous, you know.”

Belle blushed at his compliments and feeling a certain pride when he called her famous. “Well I do try…I mean, I could kill it very easily with any of my spells but I don’t like such barbaric actions. I actually catch these creatures so I can study them,” she explained, already turning to lead him toward her laboratory.

He half expected to be ignored… Or turned away. And maybe it was ageist but he had really been expecting an old hunchbacked man, long white beard optional. She…she was not an old hunchbacked man. Not by a long shot.

He pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, feeling like maybe he had taken her in for a bit longer than an acceptable amount of time. But damn, she was easy on the eyes, “Hey, uh, are you by any chance the Wizard?” He asked, shifting his weight. Yeah, that sounded like a five year old looking for a playmate. He tried again, giving a small bow, “My name’s Rumplestiltskin, I’m a hunter. I came to offer my services to the Wizard of Avondale.”

Belle stared at the man in a bit of wonder. Whenever she’d been encountered before, the person would assume her to be the Wizard’s maid, or daughter...or worse. This man made no assumptions and rightly thought her to be who she was.

Her smile blossomed at this and the way his eyes lingered, “I am the one they call the Wizard though you can call me Belle,” she said as she opened the door wider. “I don’t usually deal with monster hunters but you seem...a bit different,” she said as she chose her word carefully. “Come in and tell me what you know about what Avondale is dealing with.”

It wasn’t often that a job came out of Avondale; usually they had their shit figured out with their Wizard person, but apparently there was a monster that was giving them more trouble than usual. He followed the crowd, let them have their chance.

He, however, had a different idea.

It took some time to get the locals to tell him where their Wizard lived; apparently they weren’t too trusting of outsiders that wanted to see their protector. But eventually he got the address and went to knock on her door. Really, who had more knowledge about this thing than the one that had been fighting it to start with?

Belle looked up from the large tome on the desk in confusion. Her brow creased as she counted the last time the boys had come with her groceries. She then thought back to the last time one of her students had stopped by. She wasn’t due for a visitor in at least a week...Who could this be? The people knew she was working very hard on their current problem and she did not like to be disturbed. She wasn’t even wearing her usual robes! She liked to wear elaborate robes when dealing with them, kept them on their toes if she had a “costume.”

She looked down at her simple blue dress and sighed, walking toward the orb and waved her hand in front of it. It was a man..and he wasn’t from Avondale going by his dress. Her curiosity was peeked and she waved her hand to form back in front of the door with a breath of blue smoke. She pressed her dress down and ran her fingers through her hair a bit before opening the door.

“Hello, may I help you?” she asked, politely.

Avondale was quite a peculiar place in this land. It had the common monsters, uncommon monsters, and very rare ones, that was no different than other places. The difference with Avondale was that it was protected -- Not by the monster/bounty hunters like in other lands. It was protected by a person that the people named, “The Wizard.”

The Wizard did not look for fame or glory when dealing with these monsters, they only wanted the knowledge that could be gained from the experiences. If it helped those around them, all the better. The people of Avondale were very protective of their Wizard and treated them with much respect and kindness. The Wizard returned the gesture gladly.

This was their way until a truly rare monster came to Avondale and it was taking all of the Wizard’s wits to find a way to deal with it. Slowly, the usual monster/bounty hunters began to turn up, thinking they could do better for the people. The Wizard paid them no mind, she’d figure it out.
