Waking up, you get up as Sass, the kwami, also awakens. Today, there are no screams of fury or anything similar.Already dressed, you let the little kwami hide before unlocking the door to your room with the key, closing it as you leave and placing the key around your neck. Privacy was all you wanted, and your room was a sanctuary that only you could enter.
Descending the stairs, you stop halfway, looking at the clean, white,Β empty hall. There are no remnants of dishes, broken vases, or objects out of place. There are no screams, shouts, or fights from your parents. It's just you again, in this repetitive routine.Continuing down the stairs, you turn to look at the enormous family portrait, the only photo of your entire family. Your older siblings, who, once they became adults, traveled far away, abandoning you. And your parents, who argue, hit, and complain, rarely staying at home, and if they do, they end up fighting.
You were abandoned as always, with the only instruction given and marked for you: go to school and come back. You can't go out, you can't break free...Gripping the strap of your backpack, you quickly walk to the kitchen, sighing as the music in your headphones plays, the only thing that makes you forget everything.
Sitting in the chair at the dining table, there are no servants nearby; they too stay in the background, almost like ghosts."It seems to be just you and me again today," you say, looking at your lap where your bag is, and where Sass is hidden. You lift a spoon with a piece of egg to Sass, who eats it cheerfully.
"Unfortunately, I have fencing today, so I won't be able to stay with you in the school library," Kagami says as she walks with you into the school."That's okay, actually. My parents are out again, so I don't mind going back early," you reply. Kagami just nods in agreement."I heard you got the highest score in your class on the test."Both of you then start walking towards a nearby vending machine.
"It was way too easy, like it came from preschool," you respond to Kagami while inserting a coin into the machine, selecting your desired flavor, and finally retrieving it when it comes out. You open the drink and take a sip."You don't seem too happy about this discovery," Kagami observes, noticing that you seem a bit distant mentally."I'm just tired..." you say, collapsing onto a nearby bench. Kagami follows suit, sitting down beside you as the conversation continues.

You turn to look at Kagami, and with a small smile, you close your eyes."I wish it were true," you reply. Just then, the bell rings, ending the conversation and ushering in the solitude of the classroom.
