LOVE NEVER GIVES UP.
——– @belovedrobin.
❝ doesn’t that hurt ? like, the flower crown && everything but with the sticks && branches. i tried to make a flower crown once like that && it ended up pretty much the same way, but you’re wearin’ it like nothing ! ❞
“ I suppose it depends on how you go about making it ? If you position things correctly it won’t hurt, or at least, it won’t be as noticeable. ” Really she wasn’t so sure herself how it didn’t hurt. The Aerials had constructed it and given it to her, asking her to wear it for at least today, and she of course couldn’t say no…plus it didn’t seem as though they’d done anything to it ( she’d learned to be more careful when accepting gifts from those friendly but tricky creatures ).
{ 🐕 } ——
At his master’s inquiry Ruth lifted his head, which had previously rested upon his paws. As he considered the question he gave an impressive yawn, his pink tongue curling out from his maw && accompanied by extended legs and stretched toes.
❝ It definitely used to be more of a burden when I was alive, ❞ he managed around the tail end of his yawn, the words a bit elongated && muddled. ❝ But now I mostly just feel what you feel; I have to actually consciously focus on my own physical body to notice most ambient sensations. ❞
—— {🐾}
" Hmm, really ? I guess they really weren't joking when they said familiars feel more or less whatever their master feels. " It wasn't as though she doubted it, she just tended to forget just how true those words were. This was still all so new to her and she was sure she'd feel a bit lost in all of this for a while. But luckily Chise would rather be confused and curious about her new world than be stuck in the old, scary one she'd been a part of since day one. " What about emotions ? Do you feel them as well or do you just know what I feel ? "
Adelheid watched her for a moment. The stranger reminded her of someone, a young girl she once knew a long, long time ago. That child often spoke in a similar fashion, hiding cuts, ripping her hand away when the witch tried to look. Her eyes softened and a melancholy smile passed across her lips.
“You don’t have to hide it.”
She spoke softly, her voice low and compassionate. She held her hand out, an invitation, if the girl was willing to take it and reveal her small wound.
“Here. I’d like to show you something.”
Silently eyes were cast to the ground, remaining quiet for a few seconds. She did feel a bit childish for hiding the cut, so slowly ( and a bit hesitantly ) she placed her hand in the other's. " S - Something you want to show me ? " Chise would inquire curiously, gaze rising to look the woman in the eye.
WHAT DID YOU SEE? snarled through his lion teeth. He was always careful, so careful that no one had beheld his dreadful, crimson maw in many years; it was an art he perfected. And yet Mū felt his human skin shudder violently and peel against the magic of this girl. Her bright eyes told him everything, told him what she saw. He chased after her fleeing shadow with a ferocity he’d put to sleep so long ago. Swifter than the winds, his feet barely touched the cobblestone path and he found her, huddled in a corner, frightened as deer.
Mū inhaled sharply — remember, remember, you are suppose to be human — and called out to her. “ ——— You can look again. You shan’t see ‘ that ’, I promise.” His voice was gentle like before, sweet and gold as honey. He would not let his skin unravel twice so easily. Mū regarded her curiously. “Mea culpa, puella, that must’ve been quite frightening. It’s quite some time since I’ve met a human who could see. Just where do you hail from, little owl?”
She was sure if she were ten right now she'd have rolled up into a ball, trying desperately to either disappear or vanish into the ground, but she wasn't ten anymore and she shouldn't be so scared. She'd learned that not every frightening thing she'd see was always malicious, but that paranoia and caution born from years of not knowing still resided. Her hands would go from covering her eyes to clutching the hem of her jacket, body rising as she stood up, back still facing the other. After a few minutes of mentally arguing with herself, she'd glance behind her, emerald eyes still a bit unsure looking. Slowly a sigh would leave her, so it- he didn't look like...whatever that was, now she just had to calm her frantic mind. " Ahh, yeah, I get that a lot. " Once she'd have questioned if those with the gift of sight really were so rare, now though she simply accepted it given so many were always amazed that the girl could see them. " I come from the east, an island known as Japan. "
to be completely honest, he was expecting the worse to happen. He could picture so well the moment she would turn to him and laugh, telling him she was just joking; or worse, she could look at him as if he was WEIRD, because of course no people could see something that was not there, could they? But instead she mirrored his surprise, and Leo felt the very same sense of relief, even letting out a brief sigh and allowing his features to relax. His lips even curved in a melancholic smile. “You’re the first one I meet who’s like me.” And he guessed he was the first she had ever met, he could read it in her eyes. “And it’s a pleasant surprise.” To know I’m not out of my mind.
( no, he was probably crazy anyway; remember the children? That FATAL day? )
That was not the place for such thoughts, so he shooed them away with a movement of his head as he nodded in reply to her question and took his glasses off to clean them. He never did it in front of anyone who was not Elliot, but she was not a stranger like others. Moreover, there were still his bangs to protect his starry hues from indiscreet gazes. Once the lenses were clean, he placed the spectacles between him and the girl, looking down at them then back at her. “What do you… see, if I may ask?” Lights, a part of him hopefully replied, but another voice said No. That was his fate and his fate only: even among those like him, he would always be the exception.
The way he grew less tense had almost made her feel bad, had he expected her to mock him ? Even if she’d been pulling his leg she would not stoop so low as to laugh at another, she hadn’t been bullied just because she saw invisible things you know. “ What do I see…? ” What an impossible question to answer, she saw too much to give a simple reply. Her eyes had seen things from the simplest to the most puzzling, creatures from fairy tales and horror stories alike, both beautiful and horrendous. It was as she thought of all that she saw that a familiar sinking feeling began to envelop her. What if he didn’t believe her ? Or worse, looked at her odd like so many others ? Tentatively she’d begin to knot her fingers together, a natural reaction when she found herself beginning to grow anxious. “ Would you even believe me I wonder ? " She'd muse aloud, attempting to lock away her doubts best she could. He hadn't reacted badly yet, so there shouldn't be any harm in telling him, right ?
( But what if he glares ? laughs or mocks ? or feigns kindness ? ) Sometimes Chise really wished those pesky thoughts would cease. " It's...a bit complicated. There's too much to list, but I suppose the shortest answer would be, Myths. Primarily Faeries and creatures you'd read about in folk tales. "

“ It’s just a small cut. Hardly anything to worry about, besides I’m use to getting scratches, so it doesn’t hurt much, really. ” Attempting to reassure the other she really was fine, Chise hid the small cut along her fingers behind her back, hoping it wasn't bleeding. It'd been her fault and she really didn't wish to inconvenience them.

“ Do you want one ? ” She’d ask as a hand offered a still wrapped sandwich. She’d come to town for today, a simple trip spent mostly window shopping, however she’d grown hungry and decided it was time for lunch. The only problem was they’d given her two sandwiches instead of one. “ I - I don’t need it. One is more than enough for me so, if you’d like you can have it. ”
( && nobilissimi. )
Exhausted wheezing was all that left the currently kneeling red head, hands rubbing at eyes as she tried to catch her breath, as well as attempting to ignore the banging of what felt like a hammer in her head. " This is what you get for letting your guard down... " She'd scold herself, the sight of that ghastly monstrosity still burned into her eyes. It'd truly been a while since she'd encountered such things.

“Nay. And thou would’st surely remember had thou seen me afore.” Kiss-Shot chuckled boastfully, her splendid, spellbinding smile swelling with pride. But look at her, look at this rare, rare creature with the colours of sunset entangled in her hair! Ah, What was their name again? “Howbeit thou art not unfamiliar with us creatures, art thou? Not like those humans who foolishly meddle in this world –– in a way, thou art like me. We attract them.” We are like the centres of gravity of the supernatural world, she said. “But what’s that face? I will not eat thee, if this is what thou art wondering. I already had supper.”
WE ATTRACT THEM. So there were others who attracted odd things. It'd been something she'd wondered about, curious as to if there were other beings who drew such strange creatures towards them, and now she had her answer. So it wasn't just her who had such peculiarities seemingly follow her around, for whatever reason knowing that relieved her a little. " You...have odd things drawn to you as well ? " Now emerald hues really gleamed with curiosity, caution more or less being thrown to the wind. It wasn't as though the child had many opportunities to converse with others, either due to being afraid or not knowing what to speak of, so she'd rather not pass up what could be a rare chance to learn something new about those who filled her odd little world. " Aren't you a vampire though ? Or at least you look like one, I could always be wrong however, I apologize if I am. "
the beginning of the story she was telling him sounded so similar to some he had already heard by people who wanted to tell him they knew how it felt to wear glasses. He had always smiled politely at them, but inside he knew no one truly understood what it was like. No one would. No one could. That was why he did not really focus on her till she confessed her sight was as good as anyone else’s.
I wanted to see if it’d block out things I didn’t wish to see.
It was hard for him not to gasp, and if he had not been sitting down his legs would have probably failed him, discover hitting him hard. He was not the only one. He was NOT. He doubted she could see the same lights which haunted him, but it did not matter. He found himself breathless and unable to speak for a couple of minutes, then he forced himself to briefly smile ( did he look nervous? ) and reply: “It wasn’t rude or weird at all.” Truth danced on the tip of his tongue, a ballerina waiting to jump out and be freed. Fingers twitched and briefly played with the fabric of his trousers as he struggled on the inside: should he speak or not? Could she be trusted? Maybe he should keep silent, but he had never found someone like him beforehand.
( give him the comfort of not being the only one, give it to him just for once )
“My sight isn’t poor too,” he confessed, words dragging themselves out of his mouth. “I don’t want to see the world the way I see it either.”
THAT most certainly wasn't the response she'd been expecting. Words had been let loose upon a mere whim, not quite expecting the other to understand or even respond, and yet that simple whim had lead to something she'd never anticipated. She'd been told that there were others similar to her, perhaps not all slay vega, but at least others who saw things typically no one else did. A sense of relief filled her chest, shocked expression soon softening, wispy chuckles leaving her. " You seem just as surprised as me. " Who could blame him ? It wasn't everyday you met one who knew a similar pain to you, especially one as rare as seeing things often unknown of, always feeling as though you're some black sheep or ugly duckling. ( only worse cause if you spoke of the reason for feeling so different you'd be ignored or told it was all in your head )
" It's rather lonely feeling, isn't it ? Seeing stuff no one around you does. Being scared of what you may see today to the point you just want to stay in bed and hope one day it goes away... "
