my very first boyfriend and i are going on 7 years of knowing each other. but put together all the time weve actually had friendship, its maybe only 3 years. even though our lives have evolved far past that of the punk teenagers we once were, maybe once a year we find each other and rekindle those same feelings of when we first met at lunch freshman year.
i do think we may be destined for each other, even though the word ‘soul mate’ means nothing to me. we always seem to find each other, no matter the distance, situation or otherwise. and every time we find each other its like no time was lost, like we never grew up, like were 14, pissed at our moms and listening to The Cure.

When it’s late morning on a weekend, I just want to grab you by the waist, fall back into our unmade bed, and kiss you silly. In the midst of the play fighting, you’ll end up straddling my middle, pinning my hands up over my head, and smile down at me, your hair curtaining around both our faces. A few languid kisses later, you release my wrists from your grip and end up laying on top of me, your head in the crook of my neck. I can feel your smile, rather than see it.
That’s when I realize that we’re both tracing random patterns on each other’s skin, you on my arm and shoulder, me on your exposed back where your shirt has ridden up in all of our nonsense… and it dawns on me, having your weight on me, our chests softly rising and falling together, is more comforting than anything I’ve ever felt.
