With how involved Ben was in year 6 u want me to believe he just . Would not care in year 7? That he just wants to have a normal year even tho mc is obviously still dealing with this shit?????? Please he was 100% ready to sacrifice himself to protect mc and his friends. He has always wanted to feel useful to the group would do anything he could to help.

As soon as the vaults/Rakepick "ended", the writers apparently developed some serious amnesia about the fact that

Be it platonic or romantic, Ben loves MC. Because only love would have you following this problematic child to the ends of the earth to solve some problem that isn't yours and swearing to become their protector.

And the amount of questions regarding Ben that are still running unanswered is absurd!

But yeah, having him step away for so little in y7 was so out of character. Ben's not stupid, he knows there are people pulling the strings behind Rakepick, and unless there was somebody forcing him to step away, he never would've done it, especially not as abruptly as he did.
