Glancing in Bendy’s direction, Caphead suddenly froze, staring—whether at the ink-stained patient himself or into the void—with a stony expression.
Outraged by the situation, Bendy swallowed hard and asked indignantly.
“Is this my roommate?! Why did you decide it would be a good idea to put him with me?!”
“You have similar symptoms; at least we won’t mix up your medications, and there simply aren’t any other options.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”
- “There you go—you’ve got a conversation partner now. Go ahead and ask him all your questions! I’m going to join the others. Good luck.”
The window slammed shut. And Bendi, trembling slightly, looked again at the suspended patient in front of him. It wasn’t the strange scream from earlier that frightened him now, but the cold, empty stare, as if it were sucking out his soul.
The ink-black patient tried to wave his hand and roll his eyes, but he didn’t move a muscle.
- Hmm, they’ve paired me up with quite the conversation partner...
Pulling himself together and sitting back down on his cot, Bendy reached for his book, hoping to distract himself from that gaze in some way. Suddenly, the hoarse voice rang out loudly again:
“Ah!” Startled, Bendy flinched again and pressed himself against the wall, wrapping his tail around his leg.
“Oh, come on, come on, I didn’t mean to scare you!” - Caps stammered, sounding a bit gentle and concerned, but with a smile.
- Then what was that?! - The demon barked, irritated but still just as frightened.
- What was it? - Caphead asked in a silly manner, as if he’d already forgotten what he’d been doing.
- Um... well, that’s all...?
- ...Oh, right, I’m just messing around. My mind’s all over the place—remember where you are, so you shouldn’t be surprised!
- By the way, I’m Caphead! I can’t shake your hand, of course, but I can do it with my foot!
A foot with splayed toes immediately stretched out toward Bendy.
- ...Thanks, but I’ll pass, Bendy...
- Oh well, whatever you say. Nice to meet you!
- If anything, you really don’t have to be afraid of me—as you can see, I’m limited in my movements here...
The ink-stained patient’s gaze fell on Caphead’s straitjacket. The jacket itself was white, covered with a multitude of red, fastened straps; one could believe the claim about limited movement without a second thought.
- So why are you like this...?
- Oh, for lots of reasons, but don’t worry about it! Otherwise, I wouldn’t know I can do so many cool things with my feet, hahaha!
Bendy found that last remark amusing and grinned slightly.
- Oh, oh, OH! I finally made you laugh! Well, my day is definitely over now)
Having learned a bit more about his neighbor, Bendy relaxed a little and leaned back on the raised pillow so he could read comfortably.
As soon as he opened the book, the lights went out immediately and an announcer’s voice came from the speakers.
- Time for bed! Lights out!
- Come on, read a little more—we’re in no rush here.
- You’re right… Good night.
A couple of minutes later, his eyelids grew heavy, and after finally closing them, he fell asleep.
Chapter 1 is ended.
