“Well, that’s your own opinion. I don’t think I have any place in this silly war.”
“Silly? What makes this war so silly? The fact that it just hasn’t gotten close enough to you yet?”

“Oh yes, I have noticed actually. I don’t particularly like talking about it though.”
“I think it’s something everyone should be talking about. A war doesn’t pick and choose its victims- everyone is at risk.”

“A drink sounds good right now. In fact, a drink sounds great. But I can’t drink on the job”
“Then what about when you get off? I’m sure a drink then would be a nice end of your day. ‘Course you may be too tired by that point.”

“By everything that’s going on you mean…”
“I think that anyone with a brain could figure that out but, if you really do need the help, there is a war going on. I am quite surprised you haven’t noticed.”

Narcissa was a bit thrown back by his response.
“Why were you talking about Andromeda?”
“To be completely fair, I wasn’t talking about Andromeda specifically. Moreso, Ted Tonks. And his frustrating ability to be so passive about everything that has been going on.”
Diagon Alley | June 1978
“Maybe we should, though not here. They’ve had eyes here recently, I shouldn’t have even come.”
“Yeah, finding somewhere sounds good. That way I can ask you what the hell happened to your head. Looks like you’ve hit it pretty hard”.
Diagon Alley | June 1978
“War’s good f’business. Keep ‘em talkin’ and y’keep ‘em buying. It’s a nightmare cycle but when they’re all so happy to spend money on it, gotta keep pushin’ through.”
“Sure, it’s good business until all of your best customers are dead. Then there might be some trouble. But if you say there is a cycle, there must be new people coming into it as some leave. More power to you.”

”Do kindly stop talking about my sisters, I don’t want to have to jinx any of you.”
“Sorry, it wasn’t my intention to offend or to be overheard. Nevertheless, I apologize if my words stung.”

“You know, talking about the war and all is a good conversation topic but it does get rather repetitive and morbid. Maybe we should get a drink instead.”

Dorcas gave a sad smile, reaching out a hand to touch his arm reassuringly. ”I know,” she mused quietly, ”But it’s still not over yet. We’ll get there. We just have to keep fighting, keep going.”
There was some comfort in the gesture, he found, but there were still unpleasant ideas of what the future could end up like running through his head. "I know that you're right and I suppose I am excited by the thought of something better."

"Have you ever heard of Alice in Wonderland? I found it in a muggle shop once, the book I mean. Not that it makes much sense to you now but anyplace could be one to get yourself happily lost in.”
"Of course I've heard of it. I think I read it a dozen times before going off to Hogwarts. But I do get what you're trying to say. But it would take a certain kind of place, don't you think? It couldn't just be anywhere."

Emmeline manages to crack a
smile. “Too right.”
"You should be proud, I am too picky about my music. Well, that’s what my dad says.” She takes another drag of her cigarette. “What a shame, Fenwick, I had just praised you, too, but if I had to pick a song of theirs I liked, it’d definitely be Strawberry Fields Forever.”
”Nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about. Strawberry Fields Forever …"
"I see no problem with being picky, you like what you like. It isn't as if you have to like what everyone else does."
He lets out a laugh before he continues to talk.
"A little shame is nothing to worry about in the long run. Anyways, didn't you just say that you did like the songwriting? You don't have to like the band to like the music, that's what I've always thought."

"No I know they fault your beliefs, and the fact that the call people like you and Lily those awful words is terrible. What I’m really getting at is that all these people who are so concerned about blood-status should just push it aside. That maybe if we all stop faulting each other maybe there would be some peace in the world."
"You think that they can just push it aside? After all of their spiels and rants, that they will just be able to forget about it? Hell, if that could happen, I'd gladly stop being up in arms. I can't see that happening though, I really can't."

Alastor drained his lager in one gulp, wiping his mouth on the back of his sleeve with practised carelessness, designed to make the posh purebloods he occasionally associated with uncomfortable. “And why would you feel the need to do tha’, hmm?” He squinted at Benji, looking suspicious. “Do you think that perhaps no one would believe you if you didn’t?”
"I- I don't know," it was becoming clear that Benjy was becoming a bit flustered. Was he trying to prove something? "I can't stand the idea of someone thinking I'm in the middle. It seems like a weak way out of things."

"I don’t think we have much to learn, not in this situation. They are the ones who do. I know things are horrible, but we have to stay hopeful. I don’t think we stand a chance if we don’t.”
"Hope is becoming increasingly hard to find, I'm sorry to say. What- with people turning up dead in their own beds and all. But I guess you are right, we won't be able to win this if we don't believe that we can."
3 february 1978 - leaky cauldron
"The stakes are a million times higher now. You sign away your life — or more literally a limb — to them and then you’re done. No one listens when you say you had no other choice, no one even pretends to care that you just wanted one person in the world to car enough to stop you. That’s it. You speak, you’re dead. You dream, you’re dead. You even think the words, you’re dead. There’s no one who wouldn’t kill you if they were asked. Even blood means nothing.”
"So that's better then? To live surrounded by people who would kill you if they even saw a hint of disbelief than to find a place where your views would at least be respected? Seems like a lose-lose situation- can't believe what you want, can't leave either. I'm not sure I can even fathom what that would be like."
May 1976 II Diagon Alley
"There are always other places to get yourself lost in." Florence mused, hoping she might have the time to wander around after her job began.
"What places might these be, if I may ask? New places are always exciting to explore," he asked with an easy smile."
