Paityn loved to swim. Ever since she was a child, the form of exercise was freeing for the girl. She could dunk her head underwater and forget the world for a moment. She could just be. After her kidnapping and the trauma of the festival, Paityn needed her escape now more than ever.

Though, that solitary peace was interrupted. She swam to the edge of the pool to meet with the newcomer. “Hey,” she said. “Come to take a quick dip?”

Now that Paityn was part of the Costello’s, he liked to check up on all of the Costello siblings. Even if he wasn’t technically her bodyguard or anything, it always felt smart to check out his surroundings. 

"Oh no,” He shook his head. “I mean, I could but I think I’m on the job right now,” All he needed was shorts, and shorts in the summertime was something that he wore often. “But I gotta admit, I usually wear goggles.”

“Shit. I think they got our orders mixed up,” Livia told the person standing beside her. She’d ordered soup and a sandwich, neither of which were at the bottom of the to-go bag. “Haven’t touched anything. Is this yours?”

 “Oh really?” He said, stopping in his tracks with a now unknown bag in his hands. He usually never checked what was given to him, he just went on blind faith. “What’s in there?” Maybe it was his daughter’s mac and cheese, and his sandwich. “If it’s.a mac and cheese, I will definitely take it because I won’t hear the end of it if I came home with the wrong food.”

Alondra had gotten separated from Gabriel amidst the bustle of chaos. Someone had been sprinting past and knocked into her side, making her stumble off balance and grab on to the nearest stable thing.

It just so happened to be a gentleman she vaguely recognized. In this city, that usually meant he belonged to one of the families in some way, but was just low enough that Alondra hadn’t memorized anything in particular short of their face. Releasing him immediately, she flashed him a smile, “Looks like you might’ve already helped me, right? Heels in chaos aren’t exactly friendly.”

She let her eyes rake over the man, smile still dancing on her lips, “You see any quick route out of here from up there?”

Thankfully nothing knocked him down, not that a grab should, but he was pretty stable. It was probably his height. “Oh yeah, I’m sure,” He had never worn heels but they seemed hard to even walk in, let alone run. “But you seem to have ‘em under control and everything, which is very impressive. I can barely walk in these things,” He looked down at his shoes as he spoke. 

Ben couldn’t help but chuckle, “Uh, well,” He looked around, then on his top toes, “Everything’s kind of a mess right now. And everyone’s kind of clustered together. Your best bet is to probably to keep on going or get into your car if you can,” There wasn’t much else to do. “Are you at least alright right now?”

The Spring Festival was not where Mia expected to end her night and it certainly did not involve some gunman shooting into a fucking crowd of people just trying to enjoy whatever mediocre band was playing. But here she was stressed out in a fucking park looking for her siblings that had attended this catastrophe.

“Ben, please tell me you know where my siblings are.” The sight of someone competent amongst the sea of imbeciles gave Mia some peace of mind. The two security detail flanking her had tried radioing in to her brothers’ details but none had yet to respond. Both knew better than to give her some bullshit comforting response as to why it was radio silence. “No one is communicating with each other and I am about to fucking lose it.”

“I wish I did,” It was his job to protect them. He couldn’t even do that right now. What if one of them was truly hurt? “I’ll try to figure out what I can. Radios might be down,” He hoped that was the explanation, not bigger reasoning, “I will find your siblings. Are you alright?”

Shots rang through his ears, Ben was still not used to the sound, and probably never would be. He basically flinched at the loud sounds. He knew he had to get out of there, but his first instinct was to look for others. “Do you need any help?” He asked the nearest person, not knowing who was injured or stunned or whatever.
