Part V: Passion Question (Week 14)
How can one stop a habit?
Part IV: Creative Make Challenge (Week 15)
Most of the interviewees had habits of buying things. They did not have anything crazy intensive but felt it was a problem. The subjects were aware but did not want to change their ways. It did not really affect their social standing because it was a personal purchase. Although it could have in terms of amazon prime but in general its more of a personal good.
One person said he doesnt carry cash around anymore due to the pizza place only taking cash.
Another said he doesnt care about the habit and it will continue.
2 others had problems with nail biting. Both wanted to stop and realized that it made them more self conscious about their fingers. Holding back was hard but she cold turkey styled it and stopped.
Something i need to focus on.
Part III: Edgemaking habits Journal prompts (Week 15)
The biggest problem i have is my own mind. Yes, this is broad. But there are two things that are always running in my mind, i am a perfectionist and i struggle to say no. With these two put together it creates many opportunities that i can ensure are well put together or created. Although with these two put together it destroys me. I lack sleep. I lack food. I lack going to the bathroom. I lack a social life. I have lost the relationships i once had who were my backbone. I have struggled to find time for myself. I have struggled.
These are the epitome of my existence. They are who i am but they are what will kill me. I love everything in order. And I love helping and making others happy.
I am quite aware of these habits. I have been dealing with them for some time now.
They affect other habits because i have a high level of stress/anxiety/depression which are all created due to the things i put on myself through being a perfectionist and a helper, minus a few points in my life that have increased my anxiety/stress/depression for different reasons. Thats for another time.
This habit affects me personally because i have many internal issues i struggle to deal with. This is a chicken before the egg problem. I am a perfectionist meaning i want to be “perfect”, whatever that means, but then i want to help others and be perfect in however i am helping someone. It is always a struggle on how to be efficient but also accurate or perfect.
These habits affect others because they see my struggles. They see i am working as hard and often as i can but it is hindering my health and happiness. I am not happy because of what i am doing or else i wouldnt be doing it, i am unhappy because i cant always make myself happy. I have been giving myself more me time allowing myself to do more things i want to do i.e., rock climbing.
My family, very close friends, myself, the outdoors/nature, the climbing gym, the kitchen.
Obstacles are going to be overcoming this.
In my mind, these are “bad” habits. They just prohibit myself from doing the items i need to focus on or ruin my sleep schedule cause i will do both and then not sleep.
Moral of the story, drop the hot rock and move on, dont let it have you.
Part 2: Curation and analysis (Week 15)
I found an article discussing creativity and how it is being ruined or dying through social media. This is a prime example of adapting to the fast pace world we are living in. They must adapt or change to the ways that are being presented to us through social media. One example they discuss is being put down due to critique with little feedback. It surprised me how against the social media push. I understand there are a lot of negatives to it but it is built around designers especially Dribbble.
How do you do things to stand out or what is your way of style that allows you to be different?
Part 1: Inquiry and analysis (week 15)
This post was inspired by the “Protecting Twitter Users”. It talks much about the world of twitter and how it became to be. Twitter established a community around people through 140 characters. This is their secret sauce that most people do not even realize. The scale of Twitter is huge. Twitter allows for any and everybody to have a voice in the world. Whether it is a middle school student all the way up to the president of the United States. With this type of scale Twitter had to grow extremely quickly opening up opportunities for those to get a job at twitter. This job may include something along the lines of protecting the users and ourselves. If there are people out who are trying to be malicious, these jobs do their best to remove this content. Although there are multiple styles of protecting. Whether it is in a form of bullying, bots, spam, whatever it may be, it is someones job on twitter to fix this. But this is where it gets interesting. There are some good people out there who genuinely use this as a good marketing tactic that is legit. Although sometimes they will add a link that tries to pull your account information to steal. They want to remove these types of accounts.
Although most of the accounts and content on twitter is for the good. But that does not mean these jobs are any easier. I have more to say later on for this weeks hw but i am ending this post here.
Part V: Passion Question (week 13)
Is it possible for images or photos to be less descriptive than words? or are pictures always more descriptive
Vanilla
This would be super cool to simulate a fur like this as the font texture
I rather like this early London Transport sign, from @typechap and his visit to the LT Museum depot in Acton.
This provides some inspiration in terms of making bejamin a sign or possible saying
hopefully it catches on
Leif Podhajský
I found this coloring and absolutely love it. Something along with these colors in a manner that is similar could be what the color of the font looks like
Part IV: Creative “Make” Challenge (Week 13)
bejamin
I have been playing a lot with the phonetic of my name lately. Trying to figure out what my name could create. I found “bejamin”. I feel like this kinda speaks to what my life is about. I am a happy go lucky kinda person. I constantly feel like i am jaming, so i be jamin.
The next few images will be design inspiration for what i would do with “bejamin” and how it may look
Part 3: Edgemaking habits journal prompts (Week 13)
I am unable to draw a sketch at this time due to where i am writing this from but i will describe how it would look.
First i would like to provide context on how a picture would be described. Lately i have been taking senior photos for friends. A lot of these shoots are very similar. But today i tried something different. I was shooting at unique angle. Making sure to crouch down or shoot at a higher angle than usual. These shots really worked well with the environment i was placing my subject. Some of these were leaning against a tree or sitting on a concert block with a background. The angle of these shots really worked well with the subject and where i placed my model. The angle single handily spoke strongly to the image i was creating. Second the lighting of the image. Some of these shots were darker where i would have to either leave the shutter open for a longer time or increase the aperture number. Both of these give the photo more light, brightening up the image. The lighting really gave a strong feel to some of these, and the contrast of the background worked well together with the lighting i placed on these shots.
Reflecting on this writing: I noticed it was a bit difficult to describe a photos. What this provided was a underlying notion that photos and graphics do provide a strong meaning. With the different portions i spoke about in terms of the shots, you can give the same image a different feel and meaning depending on how it is shot. I can use this generic concept of how you portray an idea, image, graphic, video or photo with the meaning that i want to place on the content.
Part 2: Curation and analysis (Week 13)
Listening to the “blah blah blah” video. He presents the concept of presenting ideas with using fewer words. On top of using fewer words, it would be complimented with photos. These two ideas put together could convey strong concepts “easier” or more efficiently. I question how to make concepts more powerful than we already present them. Are we not already doing our best to portray ideas efficiently. Just a thought, but my question to you, how do we make our sentences and words more meaningful with less words?
Part 1: Inquiry and Analysis (Week 13)
These photos were giving me a sympathetic feel. They provided both a bright and dark image. Whether they were bright or dark, they all had a sad image being shown. The lighting automatically gave me this specific feel. They all have a story behind them without having a series behind each shot. The individual shots themselves were strong enough to speak on their own. Showing a story through the subject.
Some of the photos were unique in the way that they were staged to an extent. The photos that stick out to me are the dyed hands. These are vibrant colors, bright, powerful contrast and saturated. Even though these are visually appealing and beautiful, they still show a deep story.
Part 5: Passion Question (week 12)
Would plan a detailed life story if you could or you would leave it open?
Life map
Part 4: Creative make challenge, map of life (week 12)
I am using tumblr as my platform and itll incrementally move through my life as the numbers increase.
1. Chose to play sports (Age 2). Started riding a bike. I was an adventurous kid.
2. Chose to torment my brother. (since i was born). May not directly have chosen that but it kinda put a damper on my relationship with him.
3. Chose to play the cello in elementary school. This provided me the knowledge that i am not a musician.
4. Chose to go to tahoe with my dad almost every weekend to ski. Grew a strong relationship with my dad through this.
5. Chose to help my parents cook. Gained a lot of knowledge about cooking and bonding time with my parents
6. Did tae kwon do when i was younger. This probably provided either an outlet for my hyperactivity or only instigated it more, unsure.
7. Chose to spend my childhood on the computer much of the time. I believe this is where my large interest in computers came from.
8. Chose not to read many books growing up. English skills struggle now that i am required to read a lot.
9. Spent a lot of time outside and doing physical activity, grew an appreciation for the outdoors.
10. Chose to go on a spiritual journey with some friends for a few days over the summer. Allowed me to grow a large appreciation for everything were given and where we come from.
11. The two girls i have dated. I dont have any regrets dating them though, just lessons. Ill leave it at that.
12. The school i chose to go to, college
13. The classes i take.
14. The house i live in
15. the friends i hang out with and chose not to hangout with
Part 3: Edgemaking habits journal prompt (Week 12)
I watched an ad for Subaru using dogs as teenagers who are making out infront of one of the parents house. This resembles a true story as something teenagers have been known to do. It successfully provides a story while still having the ability to be a successful ad.
Relating to this quote, i believe i would read the end. I would enjoy seeing what i did and where i ended up. If i could i would try to fix or change something i saw that was incorrect
