For unit 34 we were asked to create a 2D Animation in any software that we wanted to but had to be a minimum of 30 seconds long (at least 30).
The idea that i decided to go with was creating a 30 second animation if After effects of a character (based on me) singing Whitney Husten - Will always love you.
I mage the character in illustrator and then imported it into photoshop to fill with colour. During the creation of the character, there wasn't many problems that arose. the only issues that i had was that i drew the character as a whole body and when it came to the animation and trying to move him, i did not have the time to go back and change the character and draw it all again to then animate it all again so had to settle with the character standing still. To try and compensate for that, i had a character that i drew for my other idea of having more than 1 person so decided to import that into the animation and get him playing the piano. although i thought would be a good idea, it was not my orignal plan or idea.
The sync of the lip movements to the song worked perfectly in my opinion. I wanted to get feedback from others so i asked a few mates to listen to my animation and tell me if they think the mouth movements looked like they were saying the right words, if was in sync.
Connors Feedback - I think that your animation was an interesting sequence. The music i thought was an original and definitely a surprising pick for the audio. I think that it worked well with the animation. The drawings that you produced for your animation were very good i thought, but the only problem that i found was that the animation would be boring if it was the full length song just because the characters are standing still. It works for the short that you had but i feel any longer and it would have got repetitive quickly; so in my opinion next time maybe make the character move a bit. Also the pianist in the background, as much as i like the art you produced for him, i feel that he doesn't do much so next time maybe gett him to have a bit of body language so show his emotions whilst playing. Other than that, you have done a good job, well done Ben.
After listening to what Connor had to say, totally agree with the feedback i got back. When Making the character half way through the animation in After Effects i realised that my person didn't have separate layers for his body meaning his arms legs, body couldn't move. At the time i found out it was too late to go back and fix it so had to settle with what i had. The piano player was a last minute thing and i could have made him have more movement or expression to show he was playing so the feedback i got was fair and will take into account if was to do again.
The song was trimmed down and inlined with the mouth movements with no trouble. majority of it was just trial and error, and slighting moving the layers along the timeline till hit the correct spot. The part of the song i chose was just under 30 seconds, so i found another bit of the song and added it at the end which doesn't sound too bad but can be adjusted slightly.
One major mistake that i found was on the brief it said that it had to be HDTV 25 and i thought that i changed the settings in the composition before i started to 25 but it has kept it at 24. i only found out towards the end of the animation so i couldn't start all over again
If i had access to After effects at home and had slighting a little more time i would have been able to adjust my characters body movements and would of been able to have him moving around a little and show him getting into the song.
Overall i think my project was a success and there are plenty of things that went really well and can see there are a few things that needed sorted but i am very happy with the final outcome. it is very unique as i havent seen anyone do anything similar and it is unique to me as it sums up who i am so i am proud of the animation.
