For the chauffeur-driven folk, this sedan’s back seat is the place to be. Click here to read our fourth report on the Skoda Superb
The Skoda Superb should be bought for the back seat if there is just one and only one reason. And for the past few weeks, that's been my primary priority. No other rear seat is just as good for the money, I can say that with absolute certainty. Although the Camry Hybrid offers a more sofa-like squab, it lacks the same level of space and legroom. Also, the car is more pricey.
The Mercedes E-Class is the only vehicle that outperforms the Superb in terms of the back seat. The comparison between the Superb and the E-Class is accurate (and not disparaging). Despite a lot of differences, this Skoda limousine is more like a less expensive E-Class than an Audi A6. despite the VW Group siblings sharing a significant amount of parts.
It's been a chauffeur-driven existence for me on the streets of Mumbai with all COVID-19 restrictions removed, traffic jams that are out of control, and no parking. The back seat of our long-term Superb is the best place to be in this situation. The back seat is firmer than most European cars, so you don't quite sink into it when you sit in it, but that doesn't mean it's uncomfortable. The exact opposite. There is a lot of bolstering all around, and the seat holds you firmly in place. The expanded squab that supports your thighs and lower back is also excellent. The backrest can be turned to the ideal position. Moreover, rear visibility is excellent.
Even though I'm not a great backseat passenger, the cheerful light beige interior and the front seat's position far from your face create an open, comfy interior. Skoda hasn't always excelled at air conditioning, and the old Laura was infamous for its problematic system, but in the Superb, it does an excellent job of cooling the spacious cabin.
You are more sensitive to sounds and noises when you are not driving and are simply sitting in the rear. The Superb is a rather well-kempt vehicle; the engine is especially quiet when traveling at low revs at city speeds. Sharp nevertheless There is no such issue on slick roads. and the Superb drives like a luxurious limousine, silently coasting along. Yes, the Superb has an excessively soft suspension, similar to the Octavia we reviewed in this issue (see page 132), which isn't fantastic on the highway but is quite pleasant in town, especially if you're chauffeur-driven.
The Superb's enormous boot, where a modest carry-on bag may get lost inside, wasn't often put to the test on numerous trips to the airport for primarily domestic flights. The first test of boot capacity was when I picked Renuka up to board our aircraft to Israel. The Superb's boot had no trouble fitting all of our luggage for the week-long journey. The Superb doesn't simply mask these thuds, which makes edges and ruts more audible than you would want. led me to believe that the higher suspension has created a little echo chamber in the wheel wells. The Superb's spacious boot, one of its greatest strengths, will require you to shift home to determine its actual carrying capacity. The Superb is our preferred vehicle, which is not surprising for airport journeys.
