The Reunion (A Lion Guard Scene Remake)
Kiara had been lying in the sun, her stomach pressed against the hot surface of Pride Rock, while Kovu sat beside her, looking outwards to the land they would someday call theirs. It had been nearly a month and a half since Zira’s passing and the union of the two lion prides. In addition, it had been about a month since Kiara and Kovu wed…
Despite being young, the two had fallen head over heels for each other, becoming more and more infatuated with one another as the days went on. Kiara and Kovu had also began to carry out their royal duties as the future queen and king; assigning a new Lion Guard in Kiara’s brother’s, Kion, absence, attending ceremonies, and leading hunting parties. The rest of the Pridelanders had began to trust Kovu and the other Outcasts more, now considering them part of the Circle of Life.
“Hey,” started Kovu, warily. Kiara looked up her mate, her ruby-brown eyes shining in the sunlight. “There are vultures in the Pridelands. The canyons, actually.”
“Kovu, it just means that they have something to eat. It’s part of the Circle of Life--” she replied, pulling herself into a sitting position.
“No, Kiara, they’re circling the area where my sister and the Lion Guard are,” he interrupted, pointing to the savanna’s landform.
“Oh, we better go to them then, and see what the issue is,” Kiara said. “We can call for backup later if we need it.”
The pair then quickly made their way down to the canyon, running as though they were synced together. They ran fast and effectively, dodging multiple other animals and future subjects.
Once they finally arrived to the scene, Kiara heard a very familiar voice call “everyone, get behind me!”, along with a deep growl.
Kion. It could only be Kion. He was going to use the Roar on Vitani and the new Lion Guard.
“Kion, no! Stop!” Kiara screamed, looking over the canyon to see the two Lion Guards facing each other, Kion and his guard with hyenas and vultures behind them.
“Kiara,” Kion gave a small smile.
Kiara bounded down the sides of the canyon, watching her footing like she was taught as a cub. Kovu was right behind her.
“Kiara, look out! Behind you!” Kion called, angrily, and Kiara turned to see only Kovu.
She turned back to him. “Wait, Kion, don’t,” Kiara begged, desperately, “it’s only Kovu.” Kiara put herself between the two groups.
Kion snarled. “Get out of the way, Kiara.”
“No, you don’t understand. Kovu has joined our pride. So has Vitani, and the rest of Zira’s pride,” she explained.
“They have?” her brother demanded.
“Yes,” Kiara confirmed.
“Kion...it’s been a long time. You look different with that scar and surrounded by Outlanders,” Vitani said, coming closer to Kiara.
“Kiara, Vitani, what’s going on here?” Kovu asked, stepping in between his mate and sister.
“Yeah, what’s going on here?” Bunga repeated, puffing his chest out boldly.
“Why, hello there, Bunga,” Kiara greeted the ratel, trying to break the tension.
“We heard Zira was going to attack the Pridelands: where is she?” questioned Kion.
“Zira attacked a while ago, Kion,” Kiara responded.
“She’s completed her journey on the Circle of Life,” added Kovu, monotoned. Kiara looked her lover, a soft expression on her face; Zira might have been a horrible lioness, but she was Kovu’s mother, nonetheless.
“Huh?” Fuli asked.
“What?” a female hyena spoke up.
“What do you mean?” Kion replied.
“She’s died, Kion,” said Kiara. “Come to Pride Rock with us, we can explain everything there.”
Kion looked around at the lionesses who were once in Zira’s pride; then at Kovu and Kiara. “Alright,” he finally said. “Can we say goodbye to our friends first?”
“Sure,” Kiara smiled. “Kovu, could you bring the Lion Guard back to Pride Rock?”
Kovu nodded and gave Kiara a nuzzle. She let out a wistful breath, wishing that she and her mate were alone so she could melt into Kovu’s warm embrace.
He pulled away, licking Kiara’s nose, making her heart swell. He turned to the others. “Lion Guard, let’s go.” Both guards stepped up, growling at each other.
“Vitani’s guard, Kovu meant,” Kiara replied, quickly, wanting to avoid conflict between the two groups.
Vitani and her lionesses left with Kovu, leaving Kiara and the original Lion Guard with the Outlanders. Kion said goodbye to the female hyena who had spoken up before, nuzzling her in a platonic manner, the rest of the Lion Guard saying their thank you’s. The Outlanders walked away in the opposite direction from Kiara.
Once the hyenas and vultures were out of sight, Kiara went over to her teenage brother, brushing against his fur. “I’ve missed you so much, Kion. The whole Pridelands have, as well,” she said.
“I’ve missed you too,” he replied. “And Mom and Dad...and the rest of the pride, of course.”
“A lot has happened since you were last here,” she added.
“I can tell: I have so many questions for you,” Kion said.
“Later, on our walk back,” Kiara pulled away from him. “Bunga, Fuli, Beste, Ono, Anga, are you all ready to get going?” Kiara asked.
The original Lion Guard members nodded and followed Kiara up the canyon and through the savanna, on their way back to Pride Rock. Kiara and Kion walked side by side.
“You still have your scar...is everything okay with it?” asked Kiara.
“Everything is good now. I’ll have the scar for the rest of my life but the venom is gone and I won’t have Scar’s tendencies anymore,” Kion replied.
“That’s great, I’m glad,” Kiara grinned.
“Are you and Kovu…together?” asked Kion, trailing off a bit at the end.
“Like I said earlier, Kion, you missed a lot,” Kiara looked over at her brother. “Kovu and I...well, we’re married. We had our mating ceremony about a month ago.”
Kion’s eyes widened. “Married?” he demanded.
“Yes, married,” she confirmed. “We’re in love; we couldn’t wait. We’re of age, anyways, so it made sense.”
He was silent for a few seconds before he spoke up: “I understand that. I’m sorry I wasn’t here,” Kion replied.
“It’s alright. I know you would’ve been there if you could,” Kiara responded.
The group finally neared Pride Rock and Kovu exited the main den. “Your parents would like to see Kion right away,” he greeted Kiara with a nuzzle.
Kion started away but before he could go further, Kiara stopped him. “Wait a moment,” she said, nodding Kovu over to her. “Kion, this is Kovu, my mate. Kovu, this is Kion, my little brother. I know you guys have met before but that was years ago and in more...conflicted times, so a new introduction is needed.”
Kion smiled. “It’s nice to meet you, Kovu.”
“You too,” Kovu replied, smiling at the younger lion.
“I better get going; I can’t leave Mom and Dad hanging around,” he bounded up the rocks to the area where his parents were waiting for him.
Kiara couldn’t help herself but to smile: her life was going great. She was preparing to be queen, was married to a lion she loved with her whole heart, and her brother was finally home.

ok, ok, i know this is something new. but i really wanted to post this because i’ve legit written nothing these past few days. and i’ve been obsessed with the lion king franchise recently so i wanted to write a fic about it. even if you don’t like the lion king/lion guard, i hope this was enjoyable😁
this is how i think that one scene should have gone in the lion guard (when the lion guard finally returns after being at the tree of life). and i had to do it in kiaras pov because she’s my fave😁
