Coming back to our conversation from yesterday:

Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron had the highest BV (47.53) -> finished 1st.

CPom had the 2nd highest (46.79) -> finished 8th.

Zingas/Kolesnik had the 13th highest BV (45.29) -> finished 3rd.

Gilles/Poirier had had the 16th highest BV (44.17) -> finished 2nd.

Harris/Chen had the 4th highest BV (46.04) -> finished 14th.

It's all a joke at this point.

I think I’m going to purge todays ice dance event from my mind with some VM’s Valse Triste, Mahler, Dream a little dream, Prince, Moulin Rouge and etc! Even their Russian Medley dance at junior junior level was better than this!

everything bout this routine is fantastic but my fave subtle parts:

0:43 -- the way scott 'releases' tessa and she immediately spins like a bird in a cage

1:39 -- the way scott curls his fingers in, beckoning tessa/satine in

1:43 -- the subtle attitude change matching the beat change and body posture change-and-hold-pose, the way they both switch onto one foot out of a turn

2:21 -- the way scott grabs onto tessa's wrist with tessa's open grasping hand, matching the lyrics "you're free to leave me" (capturing the Duke's grip on satine)

2:27 -- the way scott lipsyncs "just don't deceive me" and a majority of the song

3:39 -- the way tessa (aka dying satine) beams gently at scott with a loving smile, right on the lyrics "storm clouds may gather"

3:50 -- the way scott lipsyncs the second "i love you" as they face each other

4:12 -- scott's expressive hand gesture

4:14 -- the choreo for this sustained "i will looove you" with tessa's eagle, and their connected hands, and the way scott's also lipsyncing it lol

4:26 -- the way the kid skaters are already applauding UWU

I have so many thoughts about LaLa swirling in my head, but I'm having a hard time getting them out. I can't help but feel like the combination of bad material and P/P hanging around have caused the judges to lose interest in them? And it doesn't help that LaLa have seemed content to merely sit back and wait their turn.

They should have spent this quad stepping on the necks of every other Canadian team in front of them. But instead, they've put out junior-ish themed rhythm dances and free dances that have diminishing returns. I hope that after this season, they sit down with their coaches and really assess how to make up the ground it feels like they've lost.

To be fair, L/L also regressed. When you watch their 2022/23 and 2023/24 RDs, the speed and attack they had is just like what Z/K have this season. Somewhere along the way, they decided to slow everything down instead of committing to their power, and I think it really hurt them. And mediocre material sure didn't help.

It will help them being Canada #1, but they lost a lot of ground in the past two seasons, and they will either come with guns blazing and amazing material next season, or it will take them time to return.
