I have found yet another thing I will be overwhelmingly endeared by. Odd to say how I found out but it was by staring at Matriarch Benezia’s breast (sorry but the game makes it so hard)
Benezia has rosettes for markings.
I really think that’s cool. I imagine she was maybe born with them? I’ve seen varying headcanons on Benezia’s markings and adair markings in general, but I’m sure this is like woefully unique to Benezia. I think it’s a shame that we miss out on Liara possibly getting rosette like markings in place of the freckles but whatever, that is what the headcanons are for.
But also, to think with woman who years ago wore shining yellows, worried over her daughter in her own ways, and possibly left the woman she loved to have a better life for her daughter, also wore the mark of an dangerous animal? I’m sure to many her markings were just a thing of beauty, another reason to love her. But God do I love to think.
In my mind Liara fully deserves to get the same markings as she ages, and to love them dearly as they remind her of the mother that once was. The rosettes were something many people knew of but only a few got to see intimately. In death, you would have only gotten a glimpse of them anyway. What asari would find to be an true beauty, something worth fawning over and adoring, is gruesomely overshadowed by the oversexualized views and perversion of an alien race.

Imagining the rosettes always being there, always being seen as what humans call freckles. Ashley once described them as ‘cute,’ Shepard often traced the natural born marking while they laid in bed together, sometimes a passerby would comment on the freckles. But as time went on, as the reaper war painfully came and was dragged to a painful end, the markings grew to be much more than simple freckles.
It was uncommon for asari to have such natural markings, eons ago they were hailed as something the Goddess bestowed upon those with great potential. So, Liara was more than happy to bear them, at least when it came to the asari mindset.
Most morning after the war were still filled with nagging diplomats, issues that could be easily resolved by some other person, and restless children. To wake up so late and then to stay in bed for even longer? Goddess was it blasphemy. One that filled her with lazy joy and contentment. Shepard’s warm breath on her face, a wandering hand tracing over darkening patterns, and the fluttering light from a day best spent lazing around.
Oh, how Liara would want nothing more.
Shepard’s voice gently pulled her from sluggish thoughts. Wrapping her cold blue scales in yet another layer of warmth.
“You remember when we took the girls to a human zoo?”
Liara hummed and cuddled closer to Shepard before letting out a soft ‘mhm.’ “Yes. Inayah insisted that we see the ‘crocodiles’ nearly a hundred times.”
Her commander laughed and trailed a finger up towards her sensitive neck, letting calloused pads draw shivers from Liara’s body. “Yes, and Veyta cried her little lungs out over the elephants. We thought elcor scared the hell outta her.” She shook her head and gently propped her head onto a muscular arm. “But, do you remember the cheetahs, and the jaguars…and the leopards?”
A thin eyebrow furrowed and Liara slowly nodded. She moved back a bit to look up at Shepard, resisting the temptation to burrow back in.
“Well they have these things, we call them rosettes. they were the black spots they had everywhere.”
“What’s making you think of those?” Curiosity crept into the doctor’s voice. She was impressed by the animals. They held power within them, even when they sat there sunning themselves and trying to chew their omen paws off.
Shepard hummed and brought her scarred hand to Liara’s cheek. Her thumb roved across the doctor’s cheek. “You. That’s what your markings look like to me. Beautiful and dark, and unique. Each year that passes I think I fall in love with them a little more.”
A faint purple blush tainted Liara’s cheeks and a soft smile crept up her lips. “When did you become such a poet.” Shepard simply grinned and gaze a half hearted shrug. “In asari culture, my markings are seen as a blessing. A mark of the Goddess’ belief that you’ll become someone strong, someone important.” Shepard slowly nodded and Liara brought her own hand to the commander’s wrist, gently rubbing at it with her thumb. “I’d have my doubts but…I like to think it was got my mother so far. And aside from what my father says, brought me into this galaxy.”
“Well…looks like the Goddess hasn’t been wrong yet. You became a savior of all species, and my beautiful wife who creeps on people for the greater good.” Shepard leaned down a bit to press a soft kiss to Liara’s lips.
The doctor sighed and sunk into it, letting it linger in the morning air for several seconds. Her markings were a thing she held dear. Something she was proud to share with her mother. Something she now associates with not only her success, but a bit of her strength as well. Perhaps that is why so many felines proudly bare too.
it's actually so crazy how much the simpsons would fucking suck if it didn't have any of the simpsons characters. just a bunch of shots of empty houses and streets for half an hour while nothing happens. that would be so badddd lol
yeah that tends to happen when you remove characters from media. without characters its all just background. i guess movies set in scenic locations would still land as kinda nature docs but even then
I'm just going to say it - body hair (and beauty standards in general) is truly one of the final frontiers of women's issues in the West. Too many women just love their gilded cage too much. It shocks me how virulently women will defend it. I barely open my mouth and the "well I like how it feels. it just makes me feel cleaner. sensory issues. I do it for me. feminism is about choosing (to conform)." brigade come rushing in by the dozens.
Well I don't like how it feels. I don't feel cleaner without body hair. I don't prefer not having body hair. But who will advocate for women like me, but me? For women who do like hair removal, they are advocated for every time they step out of the house and see 99% of the female population also conforming to that standard, or when they watch a movie and see all the shaved actresses, or view an advertisment, or open a magazine, or watch a music video, or scroll through social media, or walk down the streets without receiving insults and glares for having a completely normal bodily feature.
You genuinely can't even point out that hairlessness is a man-made standard without women losing their shit and acting like they are totally immune to propaganda they've been exposed to from birth. I'm so tired.
I think Fleabags one of those shows everyone should watch at least once the fact its only 12 30-minute episodes while being one of the best shows ever made its unparalleled
