So, now that the Worst Romance Trope Tournament has been decided, it's time to choose another theme! As you might recall, at the end of last tournament I asked for 12 nominations from the list of suggested themes, and then ran a poll to decide which of them would be our next tournament theme.
To select the next theme, should we:
Run another poll with the 11 other nominated themes
Reopen nominations and select a new set of 12, then run a poll
Leave some time for new suggestions, THEN reopen nominations, THEN do a poll
Voting ended onOct 21, 2025
This poll will run for 3 days, so make your voice heard while you can!
Well, that didn't happen (they say, two months later). As you could probably tell, I am way too busy at the moment to run two tournaments: submission form will likely be out in June once I am no longer up to my ass in work.

A character says something won't happen, and then we immediately cut to that thing in fact happening.
The Gilligan Cut is a staple of classic comedy. Simply put, if the character says "I'm not doing this", no matter how many times they say it
Propaganda:
I'm personally a big fan of jokes that are delivered via juxtaposition/contrast and this is a great example of that!
The set-up and immediate payoff. The way you know exactly what's coming but you laugh anyway. The way the universe seems cosmically aligned to do whatever will piss off this character the most. Delicious. Hilarious.
"X is not happening." Smash cut to X happening. All the comedy of a noodle incident (how did X end up happening?) and also the characters gets clowned on.
Extended Disarming
A long sequence of a character removing all the weapons they're carrying.
A character is told to drop all his weapons, or is frisked. He lays down the shotgun, takes the pistol or pistols out of their holsters, and
Propaganda:
I have never seen this trope miss. And since this tends to happen to bodyguards or trigger-happy characters, you also get the bonus of having the stoic one act eccentric for once, or have a character get comically sad or frustrated at having to part with their things, respectively. Funny, and character informing!
I always forget there are maga people on tumblr, this doesn’t feel like a website you’d find them on, so to keep them away:
Reblog if your blog is a maga free zone because if it wasn’t clear enough fuck ice, fuck maga, fuck Trump, Fuck Rowling, and fuck all the other bigots I missed

Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking
A joke in which several extreme or shocking things are listed followed by one much milder/more mundane thing.
When listing three or more things, the comedy rule is to not finish strong, but to list some strong examples followed by a very weak example
Propaganda:
Both a reversal of expectations and useful for characterization. Also very funny if the character getting accused let's the Arson and the Murder go by but insists that they would never ever Jaywalk.
A joke that recurs throughout a work or an episode.
A joke whose humor derives from repetition, ideally becoming funnier each time it is repeated. Must be repeated at least three times, otherw
Propaganda:
There is nothing funnier than the inevitable reappearance of a well-established repeated joke….especially when they manage to slip the setup by you and drop it as a genuine surprise that you SHOULD HAVE SEEN COMING but DIDN'T. Highest art form in humor.

Propaganda:
The fact that the character doesn't even have a reaction outside of just shutting the door gets me every time. Also, it's so versatile; what's behind the door doesn't have to be a monster.

When a character abandons a situation that's dangerous or doesn't favor them.
Sometimes, a character is pushed just a bit too far. They might be thrown into a dangerous situation, where they'll most likely get slaughte
Propaganda:
Okay so I wanted something a little more specific to submit but this was the only trope closest to what I wanted. Specifically, I was thinking about the scenario when a character walks into a room, or is walking in a certain direction, something problematic is happening in there path, and then wordlessly, without even visibly reacting, the character turns heel in the direction they came with nary a single break in there stride. Something about the seamless change in momentum coupled with the anti-humoresque non-reaction just cracks me up.

Jokes where there's a long time between the set-up and the punchline.
Named after an old joke, which seems at first blush to be a pair of unrelated jokes. At the end of the first joke, a brick is tossed away, l
