I have never seen this trope miss. And since this tends to happen to bodyguards or trigger-happy characters, you also get the bonus of having the stoic one act eccentric for once, or have a character get comically sad or frustrated at having to part with their things, respectively. Funny, and character informing!
Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking
A joke in which several extreme or shocking things are listed followed by one much milder/more mundane thing.
When listing three or more things, the comedy rule is to not finish strong, but to list some strong examples followed by a very weak example
Propaganda:
Both a reversal of expectations and useful for characterization. Also very funny if the character getting accused let's the Arson and the Murder go by but insists that they would never ever Jaywalk.
