Oh, yes- several, actually. I think we’ll both be more than fine with them, if my memory serves me correctly…
I love you.
And all of them can be fit into a twenty minute time span? I have my doubts, dear..
Love you too.

Hm- I don’t know… Oh! Those really good white cheddar crackers, please! And we do, you know, have twenty minutes…
Got it! Why, yes, it seems like we do. Got any suggestions on how we could pass the time?
Beth, darling, could you pick Elly up from guitar lessons? Benji and Will will be done with their lacrosse practices in twenty minutes, so I’ll drop by the fields and bring them home.
Of course, love! I'm thinking of going to the grocery store right afterwards, anything you'd like me to bring home?
It’s almost Christmas!
You seem rather excited about it.
Post-formal | Beth & Tristan
"Good." Beaming once again, Tristan added, "I’m glad you enjoyed it. I did too, and I’m sure we’ll both look back on it as a fond high school memory." After making sure that she entered the car, he closed the door and hurried to the driver’s side, sliding in behind the steering wheel and starting up the engine.
He grinned at her affirmative response, rather excited at the thought of spending the rest of the evening with her. Between both of their busy schedules and hectic lives, Tristan rather missed simply talking to Beth and spending time with her. It was his fault, he knew, for being something acutely near to a social hermit recently and refusing to leave the hospital with the exception of necessities and short escapes to the gym. And he felt horrible about that- immensely so- and if not for her texting him about Winter Formal, he probably wouldn’t have even gone. Whether Beth realized it or not, she pushed him to become a better person, and he was immensely grateful for that. I’ll do better by her, Tristan silently vowed, I can’t just be her best friend in title. Remember who matters in your life, He reminded himself. With what happened recently, you should be treasuring those people even more. Unconsciously, he reached over the console between them, threading the fingers of his free hand between hers.
Beth’s familiar voice brought him back to Earth, and he inwardly berated himself for not paying more attention to both the road and the absolutely lovely girl beside him. Tristan desperately ran through what she had asked him in his head, not wanting to seem stupid or distant. “Oh, Loni?” He started, relieved that he knew the answer to her question. “She’s a friend- nice girl, very musically talented.” She seemed slightly troubled and a bit distracted- he didn’t think it was anything too serious, judging by her facial expressions and what body language Tristan had managed to catch, but he was still concerned. Rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand soothingly, he hoped the simple gesture would calm her down like it normally did.
Soon, the sports car was pulling into the elaborate, elongated driveway of the Harvard mansion. Deciding to park outside for tonight, Tristan eased the vehicle to a full stop, before exiting the driver’s side and walking around the car to open the door for Beth. He sauntered over to the back entrance, careful to stay quiet as he slid his house key into the lock and guided the door open. His younger siblings were definitely asleep, and the last thing he wanted to do was to wake them. Leading the way up one of the circular staircases, Tristan tread lightly up the steps and padded down the path he was more than acquainted with that led to one of the two master bedrooms- in other words, his. Once they had entered his bedroom, shut the door behind them, and turned on the lights, Tristan made his way over to the large dresser pushed up against one wall. Removing a pair of comfortable athletic shorts (his sweatpants were much too long for her, he already knew), a lacrosse practice t-shirt that read HARVARD in large print letters on the back, and the warmest sweatshirt he owned, Tristan offered all three articles of clothing to her. “You can change into these in the bathroom, if you’d like,” He told her, dropping a kiss on her forehead. “I’m sure you’d like something comfortable to wear, and I can’t have you freezing to death, can I?” Grinning at her reassuringly, he began to loosen his black bowtie and shed his tuxedo jacket. “I’ll change out here.”
Giving his hand a weak squeeze Beth turned to Tristan with a smile that did not quite reach her eyes. She knew he would notice the insincerity in her attempt to smile to reassure him she was alright, but she wasn't sure he would make any fuss about it at all. They had a way of understanding each other without needing words, one of many things she liked about their friendship. "She seemed very nice. A little shy perhaps, but nice." she finally said after a few moments of oddly comfortable silence, given the situation. With that said, Beth returned to staring out the window silently until they reached Tristan's place.
Beth thanked Tristan quietly as he opened the car door, and later the back door, for her. As soon as the car had stopped she had decided that she wouldn't let her shame and guilt over what a horrible best friend she had been lately affect what little time they now had to spend together. They managed to make their way to Tristan's bedroom without making too much noise, careful not to wake any of the other residents who were asleep by now, no doubt. Once Tristan had closed the door and turned on the lights, Beth immediately felt more at ease. As if some great weight had been lifted off her shoulders and her chest as well, almost. She let out the breath she hadn't noticed she was holding in and leaned back against the closest wall. When Tristan offered her the change of clothes she sighed a rather loud "Thank you!", her tone revealing her relief. The dress she was wearing surely wasn't the most comfortable, nor the warmest, piece of clothing she had ever worn.
Turning on only one of the smaller lamps in the bathroom, thinking that too much light could possibly disturb or even wake one of those who were sleeping, Beth stepped into the middle of the room. The room was unusually well decorated for being a bathroom, and impossibly enough looked even better in the dim light. Beth unzipped her dress and let it slide off her shoulders and onto the floor. She stood there for a while enjoying her newly reclaimed freedom before slipping into the shorts (which reached well below her knees) and shirt and washing her face to get rid of the makeup from the evening. When she was done she examined herself in the mirror for a moment before heading back into Tristan's room. "So," she started "what do we do now?"
Everyone I know is getting a scarf and that’s it.
That sounds like a foolproof plan! Wish would have thought of something like that before I began putting as much effort as I have into some people's presents..
I hate Christmas, I’m a proper Grinch.
Well, it is an incredibly overrated holiday..
As if finding good Christmas-presents wasn't already difficult enough, making the right arrangements for one to work out is some seriously hard work..
It is. It really is. I can remember being nervous about going to school and now look at this.
Oh. Good. Because I don’t want to loose you just yet.
Same! And now we're almost at Christmas break already, and Christmas and the New Year is right around the corner!
No need to worry, Pep. I'm not going anywhere for a while.
It doesn’t seem like two minutes since the start of the year. Wait..you’re a senior aren’t you?
It's quite scary how hours turn to days and days turn to months and so on.
No, I'm actually a Junior. Why?
Post-formal | Beth & Tristan
"-Yeah, the dance committee did a fantastic job, really. The decorations were amazing, and the mood was just right." Tristan gestured with his hands, emphasizing his point. "And don’t think we missed you doing those weirdo dance moves," One of his friend chipped in, and the group let out a collective chuckle. Tristan smiled, shifting slightly in his dress shoes. After the whole matter was over and done with, he was more than happy that he had made the decision to attend the dance- for the first time in a long while, he was genuinely happy and a slight glow warmed his heart. Just then, he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned, his features lighting up when he realized it was Beth. "Hey there," He responded, grinning before spinning back around to face the handful of boys he had been speaking with. "I’ll see you guys tomorrow, alright?" With a parting wave, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and started strolling leisurely. "So what did you think of the Winter Formal?" Tristan asked, leaning forward to press a gentle kiss to her cheek. Her cardigan was soft to the touch, and he took a brief moment to beam at Beth and glance over her outfit once again. Immediately, he stopped right in his tracks, a frown having found its way onto his lips. "Oh gods, I’m a horrible best friend. You must be freezing." Without a moment of hesitation, he slipped his tux jacket off of his shoulders and enveloped her tiny frame in it. He slipped an arm around Beth’s waist in an effort to share body heat, leading her to his car. "You, m’ lady, should get warmed up in the car while I drive us to my house, and then we can hang out there." He smiled warmly at his best friend, before opening the passenger side door for her.
While they walked without any hurry towards Tristan's car, Beth leaned her head against Tristan's shoulder and let her eyelids fall to a close and allowed herself to just enjoy the feeling of closeness and safety his presence provided. Of course she trusted him well enough to know he wouldn't let her walk into a lamppost or step into a hole in the ground or something while her eyes were closed. "It was.." she started and stopped herself, trying to find the right words. "It was interesting and very entertaining and I'm pretty sure I'll remember this night with much joy. I guess I'd say it was a fairly good night." she teased with a chuckle. "But honestly, it was great. It was better than that, even." she said as she turned to face him. In the dim light his eyes seemed to have taken a shade of dark green with a hint of hazel brown, and there was a subtle glow of contentment and happiness radiating from them. When he gently placed his jacket over her shoulders she thought to herself that there really was no need for it, since the walk to the car would not even take two minutes, but she didn't say anything of it. She knew he was happy to aid her in any way he could, whatever the circumstances. To be a gentleman. And so she was thankful for the gesture. "Sounds good to me." she shrugged and hopped into the car. Hanging out with Tristan would be the perfect way to end such an amazing evening.
The lights around them passed by looking like not much more than just blur as they drove, destination set on Tristan's home. It had been a while since she'd been there now. The last time she could remember had been that party at the beginning of the school year. Shame washed over her, making her curl up in her seat. How could she call herself his best friend when she had put little to no effort into making sure they met and hung out on a regular basis the past few months? "By the way, Tristan.. Who was that girl you were talking to earlier tonight?" she asked, not really caring for the answer but trying to shake the feeling of guilt off her by taking her mind off of it.
I’ve been good. Yeah. Can’t really complain. How about you?
Sounds good, happy to hear it. I'm quite good too. Really starting to look forward to Christmas now. It's strange to think it's only a few weeks away. Time really flies.
I hadn’t thought of it like that. I guess you have a really good point. Thanks Beth.
Don't mention it.
How have you been lately, by the way?
I’d love that actually. I don’t really hang out with people so sure.
Great! Just let me know when you're free and if you have any suggestions for what we could do and we'll arrange something, yeah?
So I'm thinking a party tonight at mine.
She makes the best meals ever. [he grins] Good! I just wanted to get you something nice.
It was a wonderful gesture, Ryan. Thank you. [she smiles] Have you talked anything to Jamie since you left?
Lack of friends I guess. Other reasons too.
Oh, well.. You know, if you feel like it.. like.. I wouldn't mind hanging out with you. If you want to sometime. That is, if you want more friends.
