I did it!!! So here is the obligatory cheesy post and photo of me handing in my dissertation. If you don’t know, I’m a finalist in English at the University of Cambridge. I decided to write my final dissertation on Taylor Swift (and basically how we conduct criticism or dismiss popular culture). It was an enormously soothing process to do it on something I care so much about and I am SO SO SO proud of what I did, and all the hours and hours of work and all the hard theory reading I put into it to make sure it was ‘academic enough’. And it basically explains exactly why Taylor does album releases and interactions the way she does, and how she’s been moving towards this era of healing, self-love and happiness for so long. My title was ‘Reading reputation: - Criticism, Community, and Identity in Popular Culture’. I don’t know if I’m allowed to share it as a whole yet! But I just wanted to thank anyone I had conversations with about it, every single Swiftie who every time I logged into Tumblr fuelled my enthusiasm. This is not the last of me, I’m going on to a Graduate Librarian job after graduation and you can bet my bottom dollar I’ll do this academic stuff again! That’s all (NOW GO STREAM ME! AGAIN)
