Nightmares || Addie & Beth

It took a moment for Addie to understand that she wasn’t really being attacked, like it did every time this had happened. She looked at the girl in front of her and wiped away her tears. “I’m sorry..” she said, letting out a long breath. “I.. I can’t get away from it.” She said. it was moments like this that her youth really showed. She felt like a child. Beth looked like she wasn’t hurt at all which was something she wasn’t expecting since Addie was covered in bruises had had a cast attached to her leg. “I’m okay.. It was just a dream.” she said nodding. “are you.. Like alright?”

She nodded and took a seat on the chair beside the bed. “Don’t be sorry... It’ll get better, you just gotta give it time.” She said, pouring some water into a glass which was originally sitting on the desk beside her. She handed the glass to Adrianna with a gentle smile. “Oh, um yeah. I wasn’t there when it all happened, had to leave early.” She admitted, fumbling with her thumb. “It must have been really bad from what I’ve heard...”

Nightmares || Addie & Beth

Addie had never had a problem with sleeping. It was always easy for her to drift off into a restful sleep as she could let herself see whatever she wanted in a way. she could even help Callum when he was having rough nights. Sure she wasn’t some dream manipulator, but she could let him and even herself see visions of nice happy things that would almost feel like a dream. But things had changed. Laying in the hospital bed addie hadn’t slept for longer than an hour since she arrived there. Every time she closed her eyes it was the same scene. She lay back and closed her eyes, exhaustion taking over, and fall into some resemblance of sleep.

Her arms were tied behind her back and somewhere there was a deep, erratic thudding that she didn’t realise was her heartbeat. In her dreams there were people all around her at times, trying to hurt her, hitting her with things and pushing her around. She cried and screamed, both in her dreams and out loud during her sleep. All she wanted was to get home, but the events of her kidnapping were making her relive the moments. 

Tossing and turning in her sleep, she cried and tried to scream for help. In her dream she was being lifted up and carried away into a dark room. Once all light had disappeared and her vision had gone completely, that was when she woke up. “Please don’t let them take me!” she screamed out loud as she sat up in her hospital bed, just as someone walked in. Her mind was still a little confused about her surrounding and she gasped as she saw the person, cowering in fear as they approached. Her face was wet with tears that she didn’t even know she’d cried and she was completely tangled in her sheets.

Beth had been walking around the hospital in search for her close friends. Guilt ate her from inside as she continued to roam. She didn’t get involved in the ambush since she left early after puking her guts out while Xavier watched, and couldn’t help but feel guilty for not being picked on. Upon finding out about the news a few minutes after she reached her apartment, she knew it would have been too late to find them.

As she walked past a few rooms, she heard someone scream and seemed to thrash into their bed. Worried, she peeked at the room and recognized the girl that she’d seen around the Institute. Cautiously, she approached the girl who’s face was covered in tears. “Hey, it’s only me, Beth... I just wanted to check if you’re alright.” She said calmly, putting her hands up slightly to prove she didn’t mean any harm.

Anson laughed and wriggled her fingers at Beth. “At least your power is easy to explain away. It’s much harder to explain why I suddenly have four arms attached to me.”

“Good point.” She stuck her bottle into the sand and looked back up at Anson. “Looks like the people are in need of a good scare, don’t you think so?”

“Why do you want to make a big mess? People could get hurt.” He said leading her away from the fire just a little. “well you’re not tossing you current one, so you don’t need it.”

“That’s what healers are for!” She exclaimed, lightly kicking at the sand.

“I can wait” he said. he was a patient man, he knew he’d stand strong until she danced with him. He held her tightly, so if she stumbled he’d easily be able to catch her. he laughed at her question. “I guess maybe a little.” He shrugged. “Do you want another drink?”

“If it’s only a little, I won’t bother.” She exclaimed, taking a swig of the drink. She shook her head and shook the bottle lightly. “Still have a lot more to go.”

“Tobias. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Beth. Now we aren’t strangers.”

“The pleasure is all yours -- Wait no, I meant mine. How were the finals for you, Tobias? Burnt your notes yet?”

“Nah, your secret is safe with me.”

“Thank you very much, kind stranger. I’m Beth, by the way.”

“I think I went alright. My notes were helpful at least.” Anson chuckled. “Aren’t you planning on partying?” She gestured towards the people on the beach, dancing and drinking.

“I think I’ve already done enough of that.” She held up the bottle as proof with a somewhat regretful smile. The influence of the alcohol was beginning to wear off so she had most of her own control back. “I think I went invisible more than 4 times unintentionally, nearly gave people heart attacks.”

“It’s a party. No place for logic.” Anson rolled her eyes playfully before accepting the drink. She took a small sip and handed it back. “Thanks.” She hugged her knees and looked into the fire. “So, how were finals for you?”

“I’m almost certain I flunked my marine bio exams but other than that, they went well.” She shrugged, taking a sip from the bottle. “How ‘bout you?”

“Me either” He said, but he didn’t care. For his it wasn’t about being able to dance, he just wanted to hold her, be close to her - something he knew she wasn’t that fond of. She laughed at her and shook his head. “Cheers” He said, though he didn’t have a drink of his own. “are you done procrastinating? Because you’re dancing with me. And I don’t care if we are the last two people here..”

“Looks like you’re going to have to wait.” The drunkenness began to wear off yet she was still stubborn. She took another swig of the beer and hooked her arm with his, now bringing him in front of the bonfire. “If I threw my drink in there, would it cause the fire to grow larger?”

“I don’t know how I feel about the fire being this close.” Anson stuck her hands into the cool sand by her feet. “It’s too hot. And bright.”

“Well it is a fire after all, Anson.” Beth plopped down on the sand by her friend and offered her a drink. “Want some?”

Xavier pulled his notes out from the bag he had too and tossed his with hers. A loud laugh came from his throat and he smiled down at Beth. “Now.. I would like to dance with a beautiful girl..” He told her, holding out his hand for her to take.

“But I can’t dance!... Hold on, I’m going to get another drink.” She took his hand anyways, dragging him along with her, stumbling from the few drinks she already had, to the sand dunes where some students were hosting a mini bar. Once she got her bottle, she flashed a smile at him. “Cheers!”

“You ready to say goodbye to them all? I know I am.”

“Definitely.” She grabs her notes from her satchel and clumsily tosses them into the roaring fire, watching the ashes scatter and ascend into the sky before falling back down. “That felt amazing.”

“Come here, let me hold your hair..” 

“No? You’re good?

“I am great! Now, lets go burn those papers.”

“Oh god, Are you going to throw up?”

“That is very likely...”

“Never mind, it was a false alarm.”

“Are you done with them now? Because I’d like for you to come with me and dance..”

“Alright, let’s go!”

“Wait -- I don’t feel so good. Gimme a sec...”

“Where did you get these from then? You shouldn’t just take things from people if you’re putting it in your body.”
