Released on this day (14 January 1983): “My Jamaican Guy”, the third single from Living My Life, the underrated 1982 album by everyone’s favourite futuristic dominatrix-from-outer-space chanteuse Grace Jones. With Jones snarling the lyrics in Jamaican patois over warm, rumbling and naggingly minimalist reggae-funk, I’d argue it’s one of the scary diva’s finest moments (and remains a staple in her live shows). The confrontational Afrofuturist cover image is by La Jones’ then-lover and artistic collaborator Jean-Paul Goude.
