Anyway to answer the questions

Brainwave isn’t necessarily a code name,it first started out as Casey making fun of the bots for having weird names and they also already hated their own government name [Casey Johnson] bc it sounded boring and generic they basically thought “nah I need a different name to fit in and also no way I’m taking over the world with the last name Johnson”

While mining for energon [due to the fact that they actually have a prosthetic eye that they power with energon so they can do things like zoom in and out,scan things etc] Soundwave spots them and basically kidnaps them

Megatron just wanted them gone but Soundwave basically convinced him to allow Brainwave on board bc they’re very good with tech [insert video of Brainwave’s multipurpose metal backpack] so Megatron begrudgingly allowed them on board and access to their tech bc that’s the only thing Brainwave cared about lol so Brainwave joined the decepticons mainly as a replacement for Shockwave
