Everett was grateful for the beauty of the town itself. It made the walk to the date all the more romantic which worked in his favour. If they’d lived in a city, he doubted it would have been as nice, or as quiet and peaceful as it was now. Besides, they probably wouldn’t be walking to where they needed to go if they lived in a city.
Laughing, Everett jokingly replied, “I don’t whether or not I should take offence to that comment,” He smiled at her as she asked if they were almost there once more and then stopped in front of the local coffee shop. Their coffee shop. It was closed, or rather it appeared to be that way given that all the lights were off and there wasn’t anyone inside, “We’re here.”
“The coffee shop?” Beverly said with a brow raised. “That’s actually an adorable idea -- but it’s closed, Ev. We’ll have to go somewhere else,” she said. And she was right. The place looked empty as it did every night -- house lights shut off, the closed sign pressed against the front door’s window and from what she could make out through the darkness, the chairs turned upside-down on the tables.
She squeezed his hand tightly for a moment, “Don’t get discouraged. There’s a ton of places nearby that I’m sure are still open. We can come here for coffee in the morning like we always do,” Bev said, realizing Everett wasn’t budging. This really was the place he meant, wasn’t it? “I’m sorry... what do you mean we’re here?”
