“It’s like we’re unofficial doctors or something,” Bev mused, “We have this unspoken oath – or need, I guess – to help people. I have the power to heal, so I only felt it was right to help him.” The brunette held up her glass with a little shake, “I’ve still got this to finish but get back to me when I do. I might just take you up on that offer.”

“And I’m a vampire-succubus. Technically I’m supposed to kill people for blood and sex, doesn’t mean I actually kill people,” She paused, “Will do.”

“Exactly,” he replied with a smirk. “That’s neither a yes or a no. It’s exactly what debatable means – it’s up for debate. I like to keep you on your toes.”

“And I can’t be offended that I’m not your favourite? After all we’ve been through?” At this point, Adeline was only teasing. She had been the whole time. That’s what she enjoyed about Adam. She talked to him with ease and he had been the most constant person in her life for a long time. He didn’t die, he didn’t leave her, not forever anyway. As much as she hated to admit it, and she never would out loud, she did need him.

“Thank you, doll,” Joyce said, taking a sip of her drink before setting it down and lighting her own cigarette. “So how’ve you been?”

“Anytime,” Adeline replied, gulping down most of her drink and then shrugging, “Same old, same old. Serving drink, sleeping around, trying to enjoy life as much as I can. How about you?”

“I’ll even pay for your drink, sounds like you’ve been working awhile and need it.”

“I get free drinks for working here. Or rather it comes out of my paycheck but I’m practically here all the time so it doesn’t ever put a big dent in it.”

“No not really. I don’t like what any of those people have to say.  They have no idea what the are talking about.” The blond rolled her eyes with a little bit of a smirk. “I guess we do, although I am not all siren.” She laughed softly. “I have a few, but they are the typical leading idiot sailors to their death. – But I can tell you that I was certainly one of the mermaids that made the Bermuda Triangle famous. You know things just don’t disappear, that’s not how the world works.”

“You’re a smart girl,” Adeline replied, “Those can make for interesting stories. Although it depends on the sailor and what happened with them,” She grinned, “I once went into the Bermuda Triangle, yaknow? One of the sirens let me through. Mostly out of curiosity but also out of boredom. It was 200 years ago though. I wonder if it’s changed.  How long were you there for?”

“Did I ever say you weren’t my favorite?”

“You said ‘debatable’ about thirty seconds ago. Did you forget that?”

beverlypierce:

“Well I’m going to help him,” Beverly said, her tone determined. She walked up to the man who was hunched over in the corner. She talked calmly to the man, explaining how she would heal him so the vomiting and nausea would stop. Using her magic, she healed him and the man was less pale in the face. He stood up straighter, muttered a thanks and stalked off. Probably to get drunk at the other place the bartender had mentioned. Beverly returned to her seat where she still had a drink to finish. “That made me feel better.”

“You fairies take the fun out of everything,” Adeline muttered with a roll of her eyes as she wiped down the counter before the girl returned, “Whatever helps you sleep at night, my dear,” She replied, “Now can I get you a drink or are you gonna just sit there?”

“Well I think people who think that shouldn’t be allowed to have opinion. Who care’s what you do with your genitals.” The blonde gave a slight laugh. “You don’t have to reason with me. All I do is eat my so called lovers. But normally we don’t get to the love part.” The blonde explained flicking her tongue across her lips. “Holy shit, I gotta hear some of those stories. – I’m just a boring siren who has a fish tail.” 

“Have you turned on a TV lately? Apparently everyone does,” Adeline said, “Not that I care what they think,” She leaned over the counter, “So we’ve got a siren here, have we? I do love meeting sirens. They are quite like succubi despite some differences,” She raised an eyebrow, “No? I’m sure you have some interesting stories.”

“Wasn’t planning on stopping you.”

“You couldn’t even if you wanted to.”

“I know you are, silly. I was telling you to get me one.”

“Hence why I said I’m on my break,” Adeline replied with a smirk, “But I suppose I can make an exception for you, J,” Reaching for a drink to hand to the other woman and a cigarette for herself.

“Just because you sleep with tons of men doesn’t mean you got any less right to say shit about those dickheads than I do. Anyone thinks otherwise needs to just get shut their mouths. – Hell, you probably have way better stories than what I just described.” 

“Oh I know that. But one might think the opposite given my reputation,” Adeline replied, “Then again, technically I do sleep with them solely to survive. I am part succubi after all,” She laughed, “Not only am I a bartender and an immortal, my first occupation was as a member of Catherine de Medici’s flying squadron. Of course I have better stories to tell.”

“Who said I was limiting myself to just bartenders?”

“Of course I know you’re seeing others, my dear, I am too. But if I’m not your favourite bartender, then I don’t think you’re deserving of a discount.”

“Well good for you,” Beverly said. She always found a vampire’s bragging to be annoying. “So you’re not going to help him?” 

Adeline rolled her eyes at the girl’s response. She wasn’t the first to be annoyed by her own mention of immortality, “He’s a regular here. It a minute or two, he’ll leave and be drunk somewhere else. Trust me, it’s better to let him finish up and then clean up his mess. If I try and escort him out now, it’ll just get messier.”

“I didn’t realize you were so thoughtful.”

“Well now that I know you’re potentially seeing other bartenders, I take it back.”

“Glad someone agrees with me. The bloke deserved it for being that big of a dickbag.”

“Most ‘blokes’ do, if I’m being completely honest. Even if I’ve slept with most of them.”

beverlypierce:

“See but that’s obviously worse,” Bev reasoned. “You can’t compare the First World War to that. One man puking is definitely not as bad as a global war.”

Adeline laughed, “Oh no, I was saying I’ve seen people who are worse at handling their drink. I’ve been a bartender at Avondale for almost a century, of course I have,” She paused, “And besides, I’ve been alive much longer than that. I’ve seen worse battles than that of the First World War.”

“You don’t say?” Beverly said sarcastically, trying not to look in the direction of the vomiting young man.

“It’s not the worst I’ve seen. But then again, I’ve been here since after the First World War so that’s unsurprising.”
