I think we as a fandom don’t talk enough about how utterly TERRIFYING the initiative is from the demons perspective:

Like one day ur all hunky dory and chilling and the next there’s a blinding electrical pain, and you wake up in a white cell with scars on you that you don’t remember the cause of.

Can you imagine the demons that were cut open and sewed back together to study their anatomy.

Starving for days and days until a little baggie of food falls, and you gamble whether to keep starving or drink and blackout, wake up with new holes, if you wake up at all.

They took Spikes ability to kill, from a vampires perspective that’s not just annoying or upsetting, it’s like ripping out someone’s teeth or fingers and telling them to eat. You’re no longer in control of your own decisions, of your own safety- that’s nightmare shit and I wish we explored this more in the show.

"if Jax is a trans woman she's still an abuser so she's bad representation so the show is transphobic" you're an idiot. you want your blorbos to be perfect ideal angels, I want my blorbos to be realistic, nuanced, flawed human beings, we are not the same. I LIKE that she's messy and fucked up and problematic, I think it's a realistic depiction of how a lot of repressed and traumatized trans women are. I think the show goes to great lengths to explore how and why she is the way she is, and to evoke sympathy for this kind of person. it doesn't excuse her actions but it does make them understandable. and I think the fact women like that deserve sympathy is an idea worth stating and worth shouting. yes she's a bully and she hurt everyone around her and that may never change. she still deserves sympathy.

Some thoughts on Spike’s armour.

I’m reading a Spuffy fic where Spike enters Buffy’s house, takes off his duster and hangs it up, and I remembered someone pointing out that it was weird that he took it off in Seeing Red and that it was just so that Xander could find it on the bannister later and jump to conclusions.

It got me thinking how I think we see Spike wearing his coat a lot even when inside in s6? Like in Gone and Older and Far Away for instance. Where in earlier seasons he is mostly without the coat when he is inside someone’s house for a longer stretch of time. But he is inside for something like 24 hours during Buffy’s birthday and never takes it off.

The coat represents so much of Spike’s persona and is the most obvious symbol of the armour he has covered himself with over the years to hide and protect William. This becomes even more obvious in s7.

I might be overanalysing here, but is there something telling about Spike keeping the coat/his whole armour on during Buffy’s party right after what happened in the alley in Dead Things, combined with how he brought Clem along as his emotional support demon?

In Seeing Red he approaches Buffy without the armour. No coat, no jewellery. Something about the long sleeved shirt he’s wearing or perhaps the way it’s filmed even makes him look smaller, thinner. His soft parts exposed. He implodes and leaves without his armour.

I don’t know. Just some random thoughts that popped into my head.

Rewatching Fool For Love and I hadn’t quite acknowledged this the first time around, and maybe it’s more potent with the added perspective on the imagery of the coat in season 7, but there’s something deeply poetic about the way that when Buffy pushes Spike to the ground and tells him that he’s beneath her, echoing the scene with Cecily, his coat slips off his shoulders. In this moment he’s the most emotionally vulnerable and the closest he has been to who he was the day he died that we have yet seen on screen, and when that happens the coat visibly slips out of frame onto the pavement and then remains loose around his arms in the wider shot whilst Buffy walks away. We’ve just seen exactly what the coat represents when we watched him steal it, but Buffy takes it away from him without even knowing that she’s done it and makes him feel like the person he has been pretending he never was for over a century, the person we just spent the entire episode watching him bury, and all of it is captured and distilled in just this tiny moment where the coat slides off his shoulder and he looks suddenly without armour, suddenly vulnerable

everytime I remember the Loki tv show ending it’s like a knife in the heart

Loki starts the show as an overconfident asshole- is then immediately humbled and by being shown unconditional trust and respect and support from Mobius immediately he is able to let his walls done enough to actually form meaningful connections and bonds with others and realizes that these bonds fulfill the ever present need he had as a second son to be seen and understood. And then at the end he’s finally accepted that he doesn’t need to be a king or a conqueror anymore and that he can be worthy of love and admiration and respect by just being himself around his people. When he finally realizes he doesn’t need a glorious purpose anymore, the narrative dooms him to one anyway.

When Loki starts the story he isn’t ready for a “glorious purpose” he doesn’t understand the sacrifice or the weight of one, it’s Mobius who gets him to that point of being the “kind of god” who can take on a burden as heavy as his. But Loki only takes the burden to save Mobius, because he no longer wants a purpose to be “glorious”, he just wants his friends, and his new home, and FUCKING Mobius, but by saving them he is forced into an eternity alone, watching his loved ones but unable to be with them.

I personally take no comfort in Lokis ending. He’s become the “god he needed to be” but he’s lost his home- his family at the TVA- in the process. Destiny found him when he wasn’t lost anymore.

Meanwhile Mobius starts out a fully actualized character. He says the TVA is his home and the place he wants to be, and throughout the story the lies of the TVA and the life that was stolen from him are made apparent and he no longer trusts the TVA or considers it his purpose. Mobius starts the story knowing who he is and what his purpose is, and by the end he’s lost it. He no longer feels needed at the TVA and he doesn’t find fulfillment in the work. The domestic life the version of him in the timeline has, he seems to crave but because that was stolen from him by the TVA and that life is currently being lived out by another completely foreign version of him, he can’t have it, he also isn’t even sure that would feel right either. The person who he DID still find purpose and feel right with was Loki, and he’s gone too. So Mobius is stuck, he can’t live on the timeline because he’s too connected to the TVA but the TVA doesn’t feel like home anymore. So Mobius is just stuck waiting- letting time pass.

Loki started lost and found a home in Mobius, Mobius started with a home and lost it when Loki became that damn tree. Mobius starts with a purpose, and ends without one, and Loki starts without a purpose but ends up burdened with one.

It would be a fucking beautiful mirroring arc. But I’m too fucking sad about it to care.
