Jia rolled his eyes and put an illusion of clothes over his body. “You know some days it is not difficult to see you are Judson’s son.”

“What did you want to talk to me about?”

“Thanks!“ Ryan replied, cheerfully. He didn’t mind being compared to his dad and alway took it as a compliment. “I like this outfit. Thanks for that too. And I told Kate about us and the supernatural. I didn’t disturb anything did I? You kinda sounded in a rush to get me off the phone.“

Audo sighed and turned away from his friend. “When you texted that you needed to talk to me about Kate, I assumed you meant now.”

“Gosh. You’re so old. It meant to text me back, like a normal person. Not call or come running upstairs.“ Ryan released a huffed laughed as he dressed. “Come on in. What anything to drink? ‘Cause I need something to drink. What’s your favorite red?“

“No! You are not ugly, if anything you’re very pretty, pretty handsome.” She smiled, slightly panicking, trying to make the situation better “You just need to turn that frown upside down then all will be well with the world and I can forget this embarrassing moment.”

“Pretty handsome, yeah, okay. I’m letting that go to my head.“ Ryan laughed, hoping to ease some of the tension. “Are you a life coach or something?“

“Are you ok? You look sick.” Esther questioned them then quickly put her hand over her mouth “I’m sorry if that’s how you usually look, then you look great and I’m just a dummy who doesn’t know how to shut up.”

“Wow. That was mean.“ Ryan blink. He looked himself over then back to her. “Don’t worry about it. And I’m pretty sure you’re not dumb. It was probably an honest reaction to my ugly mug.“

Kate smiled and looked away, awkwardly unsure where to look when there were two of them. She was surprised at how warm his hand felt, how life like this clone really was. “Somehow I can imagine the the trouble you could get up to when there are two of you.” Kate turned and looked at the real Ryan again. “Who is Jia? Is he like you?” She smiled at the fidget and too in a deep breath. “It is a lot.” It still hadn’t fully sunk in, but she was caught up in everything. Magic was real, there was a whole secret world around her and then geek in her was overriding the scientist. “I hope I’m not asking too many questions. I think I’m going to be running through all of this in my head for a while after.”

“Is it genetic? Or does it pop up randomly in people?” She almost referred to Harry Potter, but was quickly beginning to think it might be in bad taste to reference a fictional series about people. “I might have to write my questions down in a notebook. Judson and I never seem to stay on one topic for too long.” 

“You can,” Ryan’s decoy asked while Ryan took a second to text Audo and inform him of what happened. “Jia is my mentor. I think I told you he was my boss before.“ Putting his phone down, Ryan returned his full attention to Kate, wondering how he could be so lucky that she was understanding and open minded. “No you’re not. I’m happy you aren’t freaking out. I don’t know how I would have taken this happening any other way.“

“No. My dad has the ability to speak to animals,“ Ryan said, and left it at that. Not really knowing how she would react to the full description of his powers. “Some things are hereditary but most aren't.“ With a wave of his hand the decoy was gone. “Do that. I think he’ll enjoy telling you and probably do a better job than me.“

Kate’s breath stalled as she watched the 2nd Ryan come out of thin air. As he sat down she couldn’t help but reach out to see if he was physically there. “Can he think on his own? Is it like Emma Frost?” The only thing she could think to compare it to was X-Men. 

She turned back to look at actual Ryan. “How does that work? Like making something from nothing? Is there a science to it?”

“You’re such a nerd and I love it.“ Both of them laughed. The decoy Ryan grabbed her hand and held it in his own. “I guess so. Before he was basically a smoke screen but now that I have more control, I can separate him from himself for a short period. You can feel his body heat, see him and hear him but he’s not really there. He won’t feel pain or bleed,“ actual Ryan explained. “I’m having trouble retaining their memories. So I don’t use them for anything more than cooking me breakfast while I’m showering because I’m running late or helping me out with chores. Jia said decoys weren’t meant to be extensions of ourselves, so it probably will never happen.” Ryan paused and shifted nervously. “Hey, let me know if any of this is too much information. I’m just excited that you finally know and I might be unloading on you too quickly.“

“We’ve had people trying to prove the science behind it but many have failed. Its magic. I’m not pulling particles out of the air or reflecting light or anything in that nature,” he chuckled. “I think my dad would love to sit down with you and you both can speak about the possible science behind all this.“

Kate registered him moving closer, and nodded. “What are you going to do?”

Smiling Ryan flawlessly created a second illusion of himself. The illusion sat down on the edge of the coffee table a smiled at Kate before greeting her, “Hey Kate.”

“We each have skills and different things that we specialize in. I’m an illusionist. He’s what some would call a decoy but we prefer the word replica.“ They said the last part in unison.

“Modern and most relaxed, I’ll remember that. And I think I’ll remember the rest of it too,” she grinned, “How old are you anyway?” she asked as an after thought. “Ouch,” Tiggy leaned back heavily in her seat, “You don’t pull punches do you,” she then added but didn’t sound overly bothered by it. “Both I suppose. I was adopted and grew up with out siblings,” 

“I’m turning 180 years old on March 23rd.” Ryan smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. It’s just that I’m going to find out anyways. I thought it would be easy to just ask out right rather than beat around the bush,“ he waved the nearest waiter to them. “Order something else. It’s on me,“ he offered. “I know it might not compare but I’m the only child too. I grew up with a lot of cousins, uncles, one aunt, many great-siblings and kickass grandparents though.“

“Are you unknown or... A-a Wayden?“

“Right,” Tiggy nodded, nodding a little longer as she absorbed the information. “Honestly I think it’s going to take me a while to get all of it straight,” she laughed, “I’m not used to such big families,” 

“Well... Just remember, I’m the modern and most relaxed one. Ryan son of Judson, who's the son of Ronan.” Ryan tilted his head taking her in again. “Only child syndrome or abandonment issues?”

“Oh baby boy I don’t know if you can keep up.” She took a sip of her drink as he made his calls. “You do have to be marked in someway though. I have green glitter gel or I can draw an Irish flag on your face.”

“Easiest way to keep track of stragglers before we go.”

Ryan raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes. It wasn’t long before illusions of glittering shamrocks appeared over his cheeks and Happy St. Patricks Day printed on his forehead. “That’ll do?”

“He’s your great uncle?” Tiggy asked in surprise, looking between the two men for a family resemblance

  “Yeah. My dad’s dad brother... My grandfather's little brother.“ He nodded, correcting himself. “It’s not a complicated family tree once you’ve met all of us.“

Kate nodded taking another sip of her beer. “And Jia is your mentor? Or boss? Or is your dad your boss. That lie was always a little confusing to be honest. I’d tighten up that story for the future.”

“Usually we don’t get too attached with humans for us to have a solid story. You’re one of the first.“ Ryan had a water in front of him but pushed it aside. “Jia is my mentor and he’s also Garrett’s long term boyfriend. I think you might have met him briefly at one of the parties Patch dragged you to.”

“I’m sure I could convince Garrett to come with us if you wanted to join our merry band of men.” She gestured to the ever growing group behind her. “We’d even drop you boys off at the end of the night if we had to.”

“Are you sure y’all ready to party hard with us?“ He smirked, remembering how wild the hyenas usually got at Jia’s parties. “Give me a second. I’ll text Judson and Patch to see what they’re up to.“

Kate frowned and furrowed her brows as she followed his nod. The man looked to be in his early 40s. But she supposed immortality explained nearly everything away.  “So teleporting is dangerous then?”

“Oh no. No. Not dangerous at all. Garrett is the dangerous one. He rather teleport and bring the Queens jewels home to Jia rather then teleport straight home after one to many drinks.“
