WHEN WOMEN RULED: LADIES OF THE AFTERMATH BY ARCHMAESTER ABELON
JOHANNA LANNISTER capably led the remnants of the shattered Lannister forces in the ongoing conflict with the Greyjoys raiding the coasts, which continued as essentially a localized war even though the Dance had formally ended.
SAMANTHA TARLY was so politically influential that she was considered the functional co-ruler of Oldtown.
SHARIS FOOTLY ruled and rebuilt the devastated town as regent for her son, who was born after the death of her husband.
ALYS RIVERS was the former lover of Prince Aemond Targaryen and was seen to be pregnant in his presence. She later presented a young boy she claimed to be his posthumous son. As Harrenhal was at the heart of the devastated riverlands, Alys gathered to her a growing following of broken men until she established a small bandit-kingdom around the burnt-out castle.
SABITHA FREY went on to organize Widow Fairs for the hundreds of commoner women left widowed by the war, hoping to match them with the over a thousand men from the Stark army who had stayed in the south rather than overburden the North during the harsh winter. Her rule was stable enough by 134 AC that she was able to contribute six hundred soldiers to the royal host sent to end the succession war in the Vale of Arryn.
LADY JEYNE ARRYN, who ruled the Vale of Arryn in her own right since before the war began, and served as as member of the council of seven regents appointed for King Aegon III, from its inception in 131 AC until she died from an illness in 134 AC.
ELENDA BARATHEON served as regent for her son Royce Baratheon, who was born one week after his father died.
PRINCESS ALIANDRA MARTELL, who succeeded her father Qoren at the age of seventeen as the ruler of Dorne in the years following the war.
ALYS RIVERS AT HARRENHAL Artwork by Sven Sauer & Igor Posavec
Finally, there was Alys, the “witch queen” of Harrenhal. When last the histories mentioned Alys, she had been with child by Prince Aemond One-Eye. Now she ruled a Harrenhal filled with broken men, robber knights, outlaws, and their followers, so the Hand dispatched Ser Regis Groves of the Kingsguard to purge the castle of the dregs that filled it and reclaim it for the realm. Regis and his escort were joined by Ser Damon Darry with a small troop of Darry men. At Harrenhal, Alys Rivers presented her son, whom she claimed was Aemond’s trueborn heir and thus the rightful King of Westeros. When Ser Regis refused to bend the knee to this infant king, Alys raised a hand and his head exploded. Some claim that her gesture was magic, and others that she was signaling an archer or slinger. What is known is that, after his death, a company of riders burst out from the castle. Ser Damon and thirty-two of his men were all that survived of the hundred that had set out.
After the Strongs' murder
Why isn't it more talked about how there's canonically an archmaester who wrote a very, very big Book about women ruling in the aftermath of the Dance. It's a detail that rules so much. A guy literally talking about hundreds of widows ruling parts of Westeros after the war. Why not much talk about Johanna Lannister, born Westerling, Sharis Footly, Lady Tyrell, Samantha Tarly, Elenda Baratheon born Caron, Sabitha Frey, Alys Rivers in her own way...a tide of ruling girls because a bunch of guys weren't cool with a girl ruling & got themselves killed trying to stop it. That's some massive irony.
‘aemond takes harrenhal finds a witch who looks uncannily like his mother with almost the same name and takes her as a sex prisoner’ and ‘larys meets the queen who looks uncannily like his witch older sister (who breastfed him) with almost the same name and starts a multi-decade long campaign to psychologically and sexually torment her’ fight

I have no name. But the Jedi like you might call me... Sith
@swshows Week: Day 2 - Sith & Villains
Still can’t believe Disney fumbled this.
What are the grades of the Jedi? I mean theres Padawan, Jedi Knight, Master. Is there anything else? Like why the Clones call them Commander or General?
Jedi Ranks
JediInitiate: the youngest members of the Jedi order. They achive their rank whenthey are old enough for individual instruction (2 years old for humans).
JediPadawan: from adolescence (12 years oldfor humans) until you become a Knight or are reassigned to the Service Corps
Jedi Knight:If you successfully pass your Trails.
Jedi Master:highest formal recognition one can achieve in the Jedi Order.
JediGrandMaster: is a title bestowed upon the greatest of all Masters. Only onesingle Jedi can be appointed Grand Master at any one time.
Jedi Roles
Once youpass you are knighted you assume a role. Every knight has one:
Jedi Guardians:the first line of defense against the Republic’s enemies (peacekeepers, templesecurity, jedi starfighters, lightsaber instructors, exotic weaponsspecialists, etc).
Jedi Consular:their job is to prevent the spread of evil and uphold the central precepts of theJedi Code (Jedi seer, Jedi healer, Jedi researcher, Jedi ambassador, Jedidiplomat, lore keepers, etc).
JediSentinel: combine Guardian and Consular disciplines with civilian’s expertise. They have acquired skills that don’t require Force-sensitivity (slicer, techexpert, security expert, Jedi shadows, etc).
Jedi Service Corps
If you donot pass your trials to become a Knight or if you are not picked up to be apadawan learner the Council can reassign you to the Jedi Service Corps. If youaccept you can retain you title of Padawan or simply go by Jedi. Once you arethere, you will join on of the four branches of service available. You won’t bea Knight but you will still remain part of the Jedi Order.
JediKnights and Masters can also become part of the Service Corps, if they sochoose.
Agricultural Corps: affiliated with the Republic AgriculturalAdministration. They use the Force to “nurture anc are for green and growingthings”. Their “enemies” are droughts, blights, diseased and imbalance.
MedicalCorps: part of the Halls of Healing. Uses the Force to aid healing andencourage healthy cell growth. Its members are sent into war zones and disasterareas.
EducationalCorps: scholars, teachers and archivists. They work under the supervision ofthe Temple’s chief librarian and spend most of their days cataloging andtranslating.
ExplorationCorps: their mission is to uncover new planets, hyperroutes and to assist anyinnocents they may find in the course of their adventures.
Clone Army Ranks
General: knights and Masters.
Commander: Padawans.
“The Jedi—technically already members of theJudicial Department—were appointed officers in the Grand Army, as well asthe Republic Navy, Starfighter Corps, and Special Operations Brigade. While the Jedi were officially part of the military hierarchy, theirresponsibilities and commands were fluid […]. For the sake of simplicity, Padawans considered suited for militaryduties were given the rank of commander, while Jedi Knights and Masters werereferred to as generals”.The Essential Guide to Warfare: Star Wars by Jason Fry.”
So I have been reading Star Wars: The Jedi Path, specifically the section on Jedi recruitment, and I want to share some of what I found,
Remember all of the stuff I have quoted was written by and for members of the Jedi order, so odds are the truth is less pretty
“Mandatory blood tests performed at birth record a child’s midi-chlorian count, and positive results are forwarded to the Jedi temple for follow up”
Yes, within the Republic, these blood tests are mandatory, and the Jedi are sent the results
“Within the Republic, the Jedi Order has legal authority to take custody of force sensitives"
This could be interpreted as giving the Jedi have legal authority to take kids without parental consent, and given that in the book this is used as a defense against the accusation that the Jedi are kidnappers, this law might actually give the Jedi that authority, how often they exercise that authority is another story
“Some masters have argued that the Force’s presence in a child indicates the child's consent to join the order even before he or she is able to speak”
I should not have to explain why this is not a good belief, thankfully it seems to be a minority within the Jedi, but the fact that this idea is tolerated in an order that is known to police the thoughts of its members is concerning
We know the children, when they become padawan, are taken very young from their family/parents. But does that mean no parents have like, idk, the right to visit while they're learning? And do the jedi, when they're adults, can meet their family? I know they've been taught not to be attached but, as an adopted child, I cannot imagine there isn't at least a few jedi who want to know where they came from.
No, parents aren’t allowed to check on their kids (unless they are super rich) but the children are allowed to know where they came from. But that doesn’t mean they were allowed to visit their biological families or have any attachments.
“After the Jedi Masters decided that it was too dangerous to train anyone familiar with fear, anger, and any other emotion that might lead to the dark side, it was agreed that Force-sensitive juveniles, adolescents, and adults would no longer be eligible for enlistment or conscription. Instead, they sought out and adopted Force-sensitive infants who would be raised and trained at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant; to prevent any emotional attachments that might cloud judgment, most recruits would never have any subsequent contact with their families.” Ryder’s Windham’s Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force
The children were removed from their families very young to keep them from forming relationships with them. so, no, Jedi did not allow their members to keep contact with their biological families. the most obvious example of this is Anakin Skywalker and the fact he was not allowed to visit his mother even he was plagued by nightmares and visions of her dying. Even the fact he had such desires – to visit his mom – was a reason for worry. The Council, and his peers, viewed him as unique and dangerous from having such ‘unusual’ reaction to his biological family.
The no contact rule was also reinforced on the parents side. After Shmi spent a lot of time and energy trying to get in contact with the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to hear news from her son, her only answer was:
An administrator on Coruscant had finally replied to Shmi’s ’Net message: Anakin was well, but the Jedi did not discuss the activities of their Padawans even with parents. [Troy Denning. Tatooine Ghost ]
The only parent I can think of that got news about their Jedi child was Vox Chun, the wealthy and influential father of a deceased padawan.
Mace Windu placed his hands on the arms of his chair. “We have received a communication from Vox Chun, Bruck Chun’s father.” Obi-Wan gave a start. Qui-Gon was just as surprised. “He has recently been pardoned of his crimes against the state on Telos,” Mace Windu continued. “Now he wishes to come to the Temple to receive a report on the death of his son. This is his right, and the Council has agreed.” Obi-Wan nodded. [Jude Watson. Deceptions]
Not even Baby Ludi’s mother who had her child taken without permission was allowed to know about her baby’s situation:
“JEDI TEMPLE, CORUSCANT – Three weeks after a formal petition, the Jedi Council refused to hand over Baby Ludi to her mother, Jonava Billane. Breaking the Jedi Council’s usual silence on the issue, a representative issued an explanation of the Jedi Code that forbids the return of the child to its birth-parent.“We have opened the child’s mind to the larger world of the Force,” explained Jedi Master Coleman Trebor. “The child is awakened, and to return it to the birth-parents at this stage would be far too dangerous. It is in everyone’s best interests and safety for the child to remain in Jedi custody.”
That doesn’t mean Jedi younglings can’t know about their birth place. Many Jedi were allowed to keep certain traditions from their homeworlds. What they couldn’t do was to bond with their families over it. Like Ahsoka, she could wear her Akul-tooth headdress, a part of Togratans culture but she could form any sort of relationship with her biological family and remain a Jedi. Dooku is a another example of this, he knew he came from a wealthy family but he wasn’t allowed to anything about it until AFTER he left the Order.
“As most of you are aware, financial resources are at my disposal on my home-world, Serenno. While I would like to think my many years of devoted service to the Order disavows any notions that I am yielding to economic circumstances, I will enlighten those who don’t know me so well with a certain piece of wisdom that I have always found true: money creates as many problems as it does opportunities. It is my plan to return to Serenno and serve my people as a philanthropist. It is my last request as a Jedi Master that you respect my decision, as well as my privacy.”
The sad truth is that most Jedi didn’t worry about being forbidden to know and bond with their biological families because they were removed from them far too young to understand what they were missing. They were raised to believe the Jedi was their only ‘family’ so why would they want another one?
“Your upbringing was different from mine. You haven’t seen the things I have.” He looked down at her. “You don’t feel the kind of loss I do.” “No, that’s true,” she readily admitted. “I don’t.” Her tone softened from argumentative to curious. “What’s it like, to know your mother? To grow up with one?” Just know that it hurts. You’re better off without that hurt, Barriss. Nothing personal, but it’s kind of private. Even Jedi are entitled to a few small privacies. Even Padawans.” He forced a smile. “Anyway, that was a long time ago. Let’s see if our good guides think it’s safe for us to resume our journey […] She had never met such a thing as a conflicted Jedi. But then, she had never before met one who had been raised by his mother. [Alan Dean Foster. The Approaching Storm]
I asked him if he was thinking of his mother. He kept his eyes skyward as he answered, “No, I was thinking of yours.” His tone was not unkind or antagonistic, but I did sense a certain tension in his words. I asked why he was thinking of my mother, and he said, fixing me with an expression that indicated his answer was obvious, “Because someone should.” [Ryder’s Windham’s Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force]
That’s why they had such hard time understanding WHY being apart from Shmi was so distressing for Anakin and why they saw Anakin’s bond with her as a danger, instead of a strength.
Palpatine always did have a soft spot for Anakin … and there was a part of Anakin that would always need emotional ties. Having lost his mother and Qui-Gon—and then being denied Padmé—of course he’d turned to Palpatine. A benign, uncritical father figure. A source of unconditional support. Anakin had come to the Temple years too late for anything or anyone to undo his need for love. And what cannot be cured must be endured. [Karen Miller’s Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
They were simply not used to the concept of familial relationships. For them, it’s a pathway to evil, something to be avoid. Not something to be nurtured.
18+, smut, aotc!Anakin/reader, borderline obsessive behavior.
Thinking about him crying.
“Stay still,” Anakin cries, his large hands pinning your hips down. “Please— Please don’t move. Fuck— I’m so close,” He grinds his pelvis against yours, rolling his hips faster, harder, seeking the culmination of his pleasure.
He looks and sounds desperate, urging his body to keep pushing, to drive in and seek more. His need seeps out every pore, it’s raw and deep, and it has reached its breaking point. A crave that has been brewing for months— no, years, finally exploded. Anakin’s braid brushes against your face as he leans down, brushing his lips against your hot cheek. Finally, he can have this moment with you; he can finally demand this intimacy he’s been yearning for.
“I love you. I love you. I love you,” He repeats, punctuated by thrusts, deep and sharp. “Please don’t turn me down. Please. You know I love you, right? I’d do anything for you.”
It’s almost… scary.
You throw your head back, whimpering. Your hands wrap around his biceps, nails digging into his tan skin. You can’t fight it, his obsession is contagious— his love is suffocating. This wasn’t supposed to happen, this was just a mission, not even a complicated one for that matter— but everything went downhill as soon as he got you alone in your room. Anakin couldn’t take it anymore, he has seen how other people ogle you, how they admire something that belongs to him. It makes his blood boil, it even hurts. Between his brain screaming to just confess his love and his body to just burn his passion between your arms, he couldn’t take it anymore.
“Anakin— Don’t… we— we shouldn’t,” You choke, your thighs squeezing his hips. There’s a juxtaposition between your words and your body, andu it’s true, you can’t decide whether you should follow your oath or your heart. “This isn’t right—”
“Don’t,” He cuts you, his lips hovering over yours, tears rolling down his cheeks, sliding down your jaw. “Don’t reject me. I can’t take it. Can’t you see how much I need you? How much I love you. You can’t say no… I won’t let you leave me.”
anakin couldn’t be more obvious when it comes to you. there’s an effort to him that always seems to trace back to whether or not he knows your eyes are on him. you’d call it peacocking if you knew the extent of what he’s willing to do to prove to you he’s a worthy mate. you watch when he moves with his saber, deliberate calculation is replaced with a lazy confidence, dodging out of calm prowess rather than necessity, dismissively whacking his opponent’s strike from his atmosphere so indignantly. when he lunges, his massive step forward sends a shockwave of a vibration through the metal ground, straight to absorb into the soles of your shoes. when he addresses you, it’s soft, his speech always veiled with a double-meaning suggestive less than virtuous appeal, and he manages to invade your space so you’re forced to lean into each other while he talks.
this confidence that he moves with, how his height sets him apart from the crowd he parts with his broad shoulders and permanent scowl, it all culminates into an invitation to his chambers that you simply can’t say no to. tenderly, he strokes down your hair, “i’m glad you came.” he tells you, wearing a timid but sincere smile on his lips you’ve been imagining nipping. “i was hoping we could, uh,” his gaze darts away, as if nervous to say out loud the pretenses in which he brought you here, even if they’re common knowledge. he scoffs in spite of himself, boyishly grinning down at you as the apprehension to get started fuels his hesitation. he glances down, but faithfully returns your gaze with a new look in his eyes, darker and more determined. it makes your insides ache . . .
