Little Excerpt to a Big Sumthin' Sumthin' I've Been Working On
âYeahâŠnawâokay,â I said laughing finally reaching our resolution. âIâll meet you for lunch,â
âNo sirâŠnext week Iâm fully back and operational thoughâŠsince I was back in New York for the past week theyâre letting me relaxâŠonly because my boss is actually here but still,â I said with an eye roll. When my boss wasnât here, I basically played his roleâI wasnât complaining because I needed the experienceâit was good for meâplus I was making almost as much as he was because of that reason, and he was making a lot. Whoever said school didnât pay was wrong to be honest. âBut you good for lunch? Or do you want me to bring you something?âÂ
âOoo.â His tone changed. âNow youâre offering to bring me something,â I didnât have to see his face to know that he was smirking. I could tell just by the way the end of his sentence went up. Weâd been hanging out a lot lately, Blake and I, Los Angeles had treated me pretty well these last few monthsâitâd been a little over a year since I touched down from New York and I almost felt like a different person. It was true what they said, the city had changed meâŠthe only difference? Iâd noticed.Â
New York El was different. More uptight, tightly wound at every second of everydayâreally boring actually now that I thought about it, sheâd worn more black, felt smallâŠthe city was constrictingâŠdonât get me wrong, I still loved itâIâd been just last weekâŠbut I loved it from a distance now and I was fine with thatâŠLos Angeles on the other hand, it was a whole new worldâŠchill, relaxed, full of smiling peopleâŠthe weather was everythingâŠit reflected the new me almostâŠIâd found it funny that my outlook on relationships, friendshipsâlife, everything really, was changed by my location.Â
âAre you gonna take the offer or not? Iâm like at a stoplight yo soââ
âYeah thatâd be nice ElâŠâ He made kissy noises afterâhe knew it pissed me off.
âFuck offââ
âUh can you make sure itâs a-okay for my diet thoughâsince we have a game tomorrowââ
âB I knowâŠâ I said with a short laugh. âYou act like I havenât done this before.âÂ
âI never know with you ElodieâŠone minute youâre taking my lunch orders and the next your ass is completely wasted and youâre trying to breastfeed meââ
âOh my God. I thought we agreed we wouldnât mention it ever againââ I felt my face heat up at the memory of that night. That night was less than a week ago. Since it was Mayâand Blake was out of season, he was taking the entertaining thing to a new level. WellâŠa whole new level for Blake, by that I meant he just had a normal BBQ nothing overly extravagant or anythingâŠjust his whole circle of friends, and whoever they brought with them. I swear he thought he was like George Foreman on his grillâŠthat was the only way he could actually cook.Â

âCOULD YOU BE LOVEEEEEEEEEE,â
âAND BE LOVEEEDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!â
âHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAâ Nareesha, El, and Ashley both burst into laughter, Elâs body folding in on itself. She got up then, her bare feet floating in the way that she did across the patio, and into the house, most likely to fridge. If it was anyone else, Iâd have a problem with them walking into my house without first asking for permission but El? She was here all the time, she knew where everything wasâŠIâd bought the girly beers, she hated when I called them that, just for herâŠÂ my eyes rolled over and fixed their gaze on the chair she was sitting on to see the shoes sheâd showed up inâthey were these weird strappyâwas that even a word?âheels with like a wing thing hanging from them, I didnât understand why sheâd come wearing them only to take them off as soon as she got walked in the doorway. Her only explanation for it all was sheâd lost a bet.
She returned with three beers in her hand, one for her, Nareesha, and Ashley. She looked really good tonight tooâŠthe best part was she wasnât even trying. Elâs hair was tied at the base of her neck, she had hardly any makeup onâŠwellâŠas far as I could tell she had hardly any makeup on⊠her dark skin was glowing because of her topâher top was doing her more than one favorâevery time she laughed or started talking with her hands, my eyes went immediately to her chestâshe was just so effortlessly sexyâŠ
âAND THERE ARE YOUR DRINKS MY LOVELY LADIES.â And with that she reassumed her position in between the two girls.Â
âEl you donât really have to yellâŠIâm two feet away from you.â DJ said un amused. He was kidding though because as soon as she was about to protestâlike she always did when someone called her out for her behavior, he winked and blew her a kiss.Â
âSomeoneâs getting brave,â Taylor said smirking. He meant the kiss DJ had just blown El...he wasnât around both of them constantly so he really didnât know how they were around each otherâŠthis is how they were, earlier this week El was over getting her work done, she did that a lot, and DJ had stopped by for a minute to drop something off. One thing led to another and before DJ left, El honestly believed she had the potential to be a stripperâŠIâd said something stupid to piss her off about how she probably couldnât give a lap dance because her ass wasnât big enoughâeven though it wasâand so sheâd gone to every extend to prove me wrongâand DJ had shown up just in time to be the test subject.
âBravery is DJâs middle name,â El said winkingâor doing her best to winkâŠthe girl couldnât winkâŠit was cute. I smirked to myself taking a swig of my red bull. I couldnât drink before a big game like the one on Tuesday night. Itâd mess with my pH and lactic levels. I felt my mouth curve into another smirk. In college Iâd drink and party all the timeâŠI wasnât even aware of how lactic levels neither affected performanceâ nor did I careâŠand now I was watching what I drank four days in advance. I could tell El was more than a little tipsy. It wasnât that she got sloppy when she was drunkâŠit was just in the way she moved. Like she only had partial control of her limbs and her facial expressions.Â
âWe all know you guys are fucking just say soooooooooo,â Nareesha said in her Spanish accent. She on the other hand, was completely wasted. Weâd all been out together on a number of occasions and the only time her Spanish accent came out was when she was angryâor when she was drunk.Â
Everyone dissolved into laughter around the circleâeven Eva , Liv, and Matt who were having their own conversation about whatever. Probably something academic or related to Livâs areaâshe was one f those typesâŠI always went to her when I was in the mood to be stimulatedâŠnot like thatâlike mentally stimulated. This is the kind of stuff I lived for. Just good friendsâI glanced up at NareeshaâOkay still good friendsâand better foodâŠand warm weather. That was the good stuff.Â
âNaw I love DJ,â El said getting up and moving into his lap. She was sitting really close to him, her boobs practically in his faceâthat was annoying. If he didnât see her in sports bras and t-shirts then he didnât really appreciate the true value ofâ
âNooooooooooo. Elodie wrong lappâŠ.youâre supposda be in Blakeâs lap because of the bettt.â Nareesha said before going back to chatting with AshleyâŠwell as much chatting could happen when both of them were under the influence of alcohol.Â
âOH YEAH!â  she said giggling.Â
Taylor looked over and smirked at me, he knew elâheâd known her for almost as long as Iâd known her, and he had some kind of sixth sense about everything concerning me and my feelingsâheâd always had itâit was weird.Â
âHi,â El said, her weight comforting, as she settled into my lap.Â
âWhatâs up.â I smirked. Her face being centimeters didnât make me uncomfortable or nervous. The closeness was normal with usâŠÂ Her tiny hands, well tiny compared to mine and everything was in my perspective anyway, reached up and gently pulled down the corner of my mouth.Â
âYouâve been smirking nonâstop for a reallllyyyyyyy long time Blake.â She was talking loudly, unaware of her own volume levels. The only one really listening was Taylor.Â
âHasnât he?â Taylor asked.Â
âYou smirk tooâŠâ she turned her head to face me and him and then me and then him and finally me again. âIt must be a family thingâŠdoes your dad smirk a lot orââ
âAhahahahahahahaâŠIâm not sureâŠâ Taylor said, clearly amused. âIâm really notâŠlemme ask mom real quick because if I ask dad heâll say,â
âOf course I donât,â I finished for him. âThat man denies everything.âÂ
As the night went on and the reserve of food and alcohol started going down, everyone kind of started to filter out. DJ and I did the usual rounds to make sure everyone was in a car that was being driven by someone who hadnât been drinkingâyou could never be too careful. Liv had forgotten her phone charger, and Iâd run into the living room to grab it for her so she wouldnât have to fumble through, looking for itâŠIâd spotted it before. I was just about to turn out of the front door when I spotted El sitting at one of the barstools nursing a box of orange juiceâthe tiny kind that I bought for Mattâs kidsâor Chrisâs kidsâor anyoneâs kids really.
âWhat are you doing?â I asked her a feeling of confusion washing over me. I was too tired for all of this.Â
âhuh?âÂ
âI said what are you doingâŠ?âÂ
She raised her juicebox in my general direction. âWould you like some breast milk?âÂ
I stopped midâcough not expecting that at all. She palmed her own boob for emphasis. âWe have to do it really quick though because Nareesha is coming and then DJâs taking us home soâŠdo you want some?â
My confusion turned into amusement. She was completely drunkâŠÂ I thought shaking my head. She wouldnât even remember saying any of this tomorrow.  Â
How's life? I haven't uploaded any writing on this blog for the longest and it's funny because I've been writing more than ever...I'm working on my first screenplay!
