Nothing Like Starting Over
t felt like I was living in a dream. Did last night really happen? Am I really engaged? I looked down at my hand and there was the ring. The beautiful, sparkly diamond that represented so much.
I flipped over to find my fiance still sleeping away. That’s crazy to think that he’s not just my boyfriend anymore. He’s my fiance.
I felt all giddy thinking about it. I crawled over, curling into his side, trying not to wake him up. I failed.
“Good morning,” he mumbled, wrapping an arm around me.
“Good morning, fiance,” I smirked looking up at him.
“That sounds so weird,” he laughed, “It sounds too fancy.”
“Well it’s meant to sound fancy because we’re getting married,” I grinned.
“God, I can’t believe we’re getting married. It’s so weird to think about it, it feels like we were just two teenagers falling in love,” he said.
“Remember when I first came to Nash and you were dating Georgia?” I laughed.
“Oh my God, how could I forget that. That was the WORST relationship I’ve ever been in. I still remember that day when I saw you walking around that antique store. I felt like I’d seen a ghost, I couldn’t believe it was actually you. You looked just as stunning as I remembered. I was having a bad day with Georgia and you just lit me up,” he kissed my forehead.
“I love you so much babe. OH MY GOD REMEMBER WHEN I GOT IN A FIGHT WITH GEORGIA?” I yelled, hopping up and almost hitting my head on the headboard.
“Calm down there,” he held his arms out, “but YES! That was crazy, I fixed your bruised face even though I had no idea what I was doing.”
I laughed, “I have no injuries from your help so I guess you did okay.”
He smiled, sitting up with me. “When do you think we should tell the fans?”
Last night at the party we called our parents to tell them the news. They had already known. Surprise surprise. And all of our friends were already here so no need to call and tell them. All we had left was the fans. His absolutely wonderful fans that sometimes had a mean streak when it came to me. Lately we’ve been pretty open with them. Hunter even posted some pictures of us to Twitter and Instagram. There have been some people who have issues with it, but mostly they’ve been great.
“We could do it now? I can post something and so can you? Or we can wait, it doesn’t matter to me,” I shrugged.
“I kinda want to tell them now, I hate hiding things from them. Plus, you will be at my shows over the next few weeks and they’ll see your ring anyways. I’m also very proud that we’re together and I don’t care if they have issues with it, I love you, they don’t have to,” he said.
“That’s true. I kind of really want to post too, I don’t have the pictures yet though, can you send them to me?” I asked grabbing my phone off the dresser next to me.
“Sure, I got ya babe,” he said grabbing his phone. A few seconds later they popped up on my phone.
“Ready. Set. Caption,” I said, smirking and cracking my knuckles, “Get ready to cry.”
I flipped through all of the pictures he sent me and landed on one of my hands over my mouth and him smiling up at me, still down on one knee.
@misscaitlinmarie: Last night was the most magical night of my life. The greatest boy I’ve ever met asked me to be his wife. After being together for nearly three years, there was questioning my answer. And the best thing about the whole thing was that we were in the most magical place on Earth, Disney World! And he surprised me with all of our friends there to celebrate! (Thank you for coming by the way my lovely friends!) Hunter Easton Hayes, you really are something. You’re the sweetest, kindest, most amazing boy in the world and in a few months, I’ll get to call you my husband. I cannot wait to go on the rest of this journey with you! We have so many adventures ahead of us, but the best thing about it all is that you will be by my side. I love you always and forever, my love.
“Wait! We have to post at the same time, are you done yet?” I looked over at him.
“Do you want to read it first?” he asked.
“No because I’m going in the bathroom when I read it so I don’t cry in front of you,” I laughed, “After I’m done reading yours and you’re done reading mine we can cry together.”
“Okay,” he laughed, “That’s completely fine but you can cry in front of me, you know that right? I mean you have a million times.”
“This is different, I’m not crying in front of you for this,” I said, “Are you ready to post now?”
“Yes. Ready, set, post,” he said and I hit the button.
“It’s up! Get ready for attack messages!” I said and ran in the bathroom, “BUT FIRST I HAVE TO READ YOURS.”
I sat down on the floor, prepared to cry.
He had a picture of him kissing my cheek and me sticking my hand out all excitedly with a big grin on my face.
@HunterHayes: Yep, it’s exactly what it looks like…Last night I asked this amazing woman to marry me. And she said yes! So this is Caitlin. She loves music, animals, food, TV, superheroes and shoes. And she is my whole world. She’s the kindest, sweetest, funniest person you will ever meet. She has a huge heart and cares for everyone. When we first met, I had pimples all over my face and long shaggy hair. We were in high school. At that moment, I had no idea that one day she would be my wife. I did think she was very beautiful. For the past three years, she’s been the only thing constant in my life. Almost every love song you’ve heard has been about her. With the exception of a few, but now I sing them for her. Some of you know her, but for those who don’t, that’s her. That’s the amazing woman I’m spending the rest of my life with. Caitlin, I love you so much. You’re my rock, my love, my everything. I can’t to go on the rest of this journey together.
Wow. I didn’t know I could cry so much. How am I going to last on my actual wedding day?
I peaked back out into the room. He was sitting there crying too.
“I love you so much,” I said crawling back in bed.
“I love you too. That was beautiful babe,” he said.
“Mine was NOTHING compared to yours. That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU,” I kissed his face a million times.
“I love you too, oh my God. Guess what? Guess what?” He asked.
“WE’RE GETTING MARRIED!” he yelled.
“WE ARE! Let’s have a celebratory jump on the bed, I feel like that’s what you’re supposed to do when you’re engaged,” I laughed, standing up.
“YES, I’ve always wanted to do that! We’re doing it on our wedding night like they do in the movies,” he said.
“Oh my god, yes,” I laughed. I started jumping up and down and yelling about getting married. I’m sure if anyone heard us, they probably thought we were crazy.
“CRAP! We have to get to the park! It’s almost 8:30 already! We need time to get through the whole thing!” I yelled and hopped off the bed, running for my clothes. I just slipped something on that matched. I threw a hat on, hoping I wouldn’t get a burn today. I’ve actually been in the sun enough to have an actual tan, like not just some color but a tan. It felt amazing.
Hunter also had his hat on when I finally finished getting ready. We headed to eat some breakfast before we went out into the park. We both got pancakes and hash browns.
I noticed a few looks from people eating around us. I’m sure they recognized Hunter, but I didn’t know if they had seen his post this morning.
“Um, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan. My name’s Kenzie. Sorry, I just couldn’t not say hi,” she said.
“It’s no problem at all, it’s nice to meet you Kenzie! How are you liking Disney?”
“I love it so much. Oh and by the way congratulations on your engagement! You guys are adorable together and Caitlin you’re so pretty, I stalk your Instagram all the time. Not to be creepy or anything,” she smiled.
“You’re so sweet! Thank you! You’re so pretty!” I said.
“Thank you so much! Can we take a picture together?” she asked Hunter, “And Caitlin, can we take one too?
"Of course!” we both answered. I took a picture of Hunter and her first and then he took one of her and I. We each took selfies with her too. Afterwards, she hung around for a while longer and we chatted about music and Disney with her. She was super sweet.
Later in the day, my notifications were going absolutely crazy. From the engagement posts, to Kenzie’s posts (and some other posts of us throughout the day). Everyone was really happy for us. I’ve only seen one negative post so far, but overall the response has been great.
