the little mermaid.
┊♔┊➢ The movie, though it had quivered with a childish sense of alacrity, had acquired just what it needed to pull in anyone watching. It’d been The Little Mermaid, a movie centering around an uppity damsel roaming through seas and constantly coddling into pleasurable adventure. Of course, because it had been disney, and an old film at that, it revolves around some impossible love story that, according to Touko, is so unrealistic and glorified to the point where she can’t even think of it without getting sick to her stomach.
Watching a flickering film mainly produced for children, two sixteen-year-old girls sit side-by-side on a couch that has never felt so comfortable. It was one of those nights, their nights, the nights where there were no boys allowed, ( sorry, touya & cheren. )
For some reason, these nights would occur on the weekends almost always, despite the two girls having already completely annihilated both school and the continuation of it, rather continuing a divergent, more philosophical form of learning; ‘gaining knowledge’. Which, essentially, adds up to a duet of female Pokémon trainers abiding by stupid, elementary rules; ( when they’re most-definitely of age to do otherwise. )
So, weekends it had been; and weekends it would stay. An odd tradition that not one of them even thought to question of, ( at least, question aloud ) even though not every weekend could they end up in the same place.
“Bi,” finally will her voice resound, eyes halting to waver from the bright film; for all she knew the blonde could have gone up and left already, ( though, intuition tells her otherwise. ) “— how’re you liking the movie, so far?”
a watchful gaze rests on the flickering colors of the television, first overrun with blues and hues of green and now contrasted with yellow & brown of the land the little mermaid set upon. in fact, the blonde had been so pulled into the movie she had nearly forgotten of her friend who sat next to her; a presence she had become quite accustomed to as the years progressed. indeed, this was not their first time sitting side-by-side like this, without cheren or touya around to muck up their time together. { muk, she likes to jokes and snorts, only to receive rolling eyes as her only reply } -- ah, but that wasn't to say they weren't welcome here at all. of course they were; but this time was reserved to she and her "best friend," perhaps her only female friend since childhood. plus, in the end, she had decided it would simply be strange to allow a boy -- or two -- their age into her house, and she was sure her father would not be happy at all with her decision. so, she resorted to watching movies meant for children with touko: a habit that had become practically tradition.
when she picked the movie, she wasn't sure touko was completely on board with the idea; nonetheless, the brunette merely complied and played the disc, much to bianca's amusement. as the film rolled, however, she became less and less engrossed between talking with her friend, and suddenly... she felt the strangest feeling in her gut. she watched the struggles of ariel, her sisters, her family -- the story of love that even bianca had to admit was cliche { but -- how she would love to have such a story for herself; she, a princess, or maybe a prince? }.
touko's startling voice pulls her out of her own thoughts and, for the first time, bianca notices that she's been silently crying, miraculously. the tears that stained her cheeks are quickly and discreetly wiped with a hand as she reaches for a handful of popcorn in an attempt to appear at least somewhat collected. she did not like showing her weakness in front of touko, cheren, touya, but to herself most of all. she wasn't weak, she told herself -- she was strong, somewhere, deep inside. where it might have been a little difficult to pull out, but still there and waiting for her moment where she could truly shine and be a prince --
such cliches, however, were best left to fairytales.
' a -- ahh, ' she begins, turning her gaze towards touko as though she had only just noticed her in the room -- a silent observer. bianca speaks through a chewing jaw, spraying bits of popcorn on the carpet and couch. ' c-course! y'know, it's kinda sad when you think about it, right? i mean... the mermaid, she -- '
-- before she can finish, she stops herself, swallows to give herself time to think. she wasn't here to analyze the movie, or point out facts, or anything of the life -- and touko surely wouldn't care to hear what she'd read in a fairytale book of all things. ' hmm, nevermind... i'm just rambling, after all. let's just watch the movie, 'kay? '
