Okay the âhowâd yâall even learn without the internetâ tag has me laughing so I have to answer.Â
Yes, there was knowledge before the internet. It was a little harder to track down at times but most of the best tumblr information you find on witchcraft is still being pulled from sources that existed before the internet. But information tended to be more local before the internet because there were fewer books and you often studied or learned from local witches.Â
So, for a couple of the questions - I came to witchcraft through my mother. I also studied locally with Ann Moura because she lives in the general area. I learned before the internet but the internet vastly expanded my ability to find more information. Every witch I know has probably secretly been casting spells since they watched their first Disney movie over time we just make them more effective. I post a lot of aesthetic stuff because tumblr is a wonderful place for pretty pictures but a really sloppy place to share deeper knowledge. Thereâs nothing about being a witch that says you have to stop liking aesthetics.Â
Not to mention, this is like, condescending as fuck. Just let people enjoy the things they do and leave them alone, their practice is their own for fucks sake
Also, I donât even post everything I do in my craft (if ever) because what I do in my own time I like to keep a bit more personal. I am inna coven with a witch who has been practicing for 6+ years (@witchwithacoffeepot ). We learn from each other and from sources online. We are more on the broke side so we canât afford books and a ton of supplies, not that I need to explain that to someone who doubts my knowledge or ability. Even if someone does witchcraft for the aesthetic (whether I agree or not) is none of my business unless they are spreading harmful and blatantly incorrect information.
I have been drawn to the craft since I was a child and never knew until I was an early teen it was real. The very attitude of âyou must be guided and it is super strict and serious and you gotta act this way and do x,y,zâ is why I was told by an elder witch to not even bother. I was discouraged from taking the path I was most drawn to and it took 4-ish years until Iâd find myself choosing my craft over that attitude.
I just like my blog to look nice with a theme while also sharing information. Last time I checked, that wasnât a crime. People tend to not care if your blog isnât somewhat âaestheticâ.
Thatâs my tea đ€·đ»
My dudes; I paint, I sing, and until my doctor freaked out over my asthma attacks I did fire breathing and performance. My witchiness is going to have a style to it cause everything I do does. The craft is like everything else in life; people do it differently and make it fit into what they need. Sometimes that's aesthetic and sometimes its screaming at the top of your lungs while banging pots and pans lol
