now that the World Cup is over, I am intrigued as to why during it there has been a sudden surge of anti-Argentinian content. Granted, Argentina has an horrible president who is too friendly with Trump and Netanyahu, and a verifiable history of racism (both past and present) and ethnic erasure (even post- independence), and boy oh boy, the national team was playing FOUL (I don’t care what fanatics have to say on this regard). All of that is undeniable. But this sudden Argentina hating movement that came mid World Cup and that has trascended every social media imaginable is so great and so loud and so international, I cannot help to wonder whether there must be something else beneath all of this. Has the world suddenly discovered Argentina’s fatal societal flaws after years and years? I don’t know about you, but whenever I see something starts surfacing so publicly and so suddenly and so everywhere in fungi fashion (like those awful Fruit Love Island videos or the tradwife content), it sounds suspicious to me. Then again, not to say the conversations that are being had about Argentina’s problematic past and no less problematic current situation as a political entity and as a society aren’t true or sincere, but just that.
