Unfortunate Greetings

Normally when I post on my page, I am usually informing you of a funny or interesting story or some good news but not today. As you may remember, Greta was pregnant with our 3rd child. You may think this was good news but it was not. The child was either going to be named Franz Jr. or Anneta, but sadly, they did not make it all day. During the birth of our child, my wife had to suffer in pain and the child could not make it out. We both struggled and struggled to deliver that child, but he could not make it. We quickly buried their corpse, and grieved it heavily that day, crying over his grave, praying for him and praying for more healthy children in the future. With our lives striving and such a sadden and tragic event, I will have to take a break from posting and focus on comforting my family and myself. So long for now, my fellow farmers, merchants, and most importantly, friends...

An interesting day...

It was a nice and peaceful Sunday afternoon, my wife and I along with our kids had just returned from our beautiful Lutheran church, and Greta begins to make our mid-day meal. I am outside, working in the fields and I hear a BANG! I jump out of the grains and see my neighbor's indentured servant, running away from him! Joseph, my other neighbor, chased him down with a rifle and I just stood there, in complete shock, wondering why anyone would betray their contract. It was quite peculiar to me why someone would ever do this! 

So anyway, I continued to farm and farm and finally Joseph returns, dripping in a brown substance which I presumed was mud. He was running from our local lake, so I wonder if he took a tumble into there. Anyways, his servant did not return to him that day, or in fact any day. He had broken his contract, and if he does get found, he will pay for what he did!

Hello again to all my beautiful friends! I am back from my hiatus and happy to announce that Greta is once again pregnant! After recovering from the birth of Otis, we had decided it is time to have another child, and so the magic occurred and it is happening once again! In other news, the wheat harvest is looking to be extra good this year, with my crops all growing so beautifully and magnifically in my fields. I had tended my fields an extra bit more, and the labor seems to be paying off, I mean look at is, so rich and golden in the beautiful Pennsylvanian sunlight!

Otis!

Greta has just given birth to Otis! After dealing with a long and painful pregnancy, Otis came out two days later than we had expected, but he is still a young and handsome boy who already looks like he will be an excellent farmer! Sadly though, I will be taking a slight break from my blog so I can celebrate the birth of my son and help Greta recover from this particularly painful pregnancy. Before I leave though, I would like to thank everyone for all the beautiful messages who did know about Otis before my post, and a special thanks to my neighbor, Johan and his wife, Deana who had brought a celebratory feast to my household!

A trip into Philadelphia

After I concluded my seasonal harvest, I headed into Philadelphia to sell my grains to merchants along the waterways. After I had sold off all my grain for a hefty penny, I had decided to enter a tavern and have some celebratory rum. Would you know, the whole tavern was full of Germans! I had spoken to a few of them and how they are living here in America compared to the motherland, and almost everyone is enjoying their new lives here!

I had run into one particular fellow though, Karl was his name, and he had told me about his journey across the Atlantic to arrive here. He had said that when he arrived, he was taken to a place to sign some papers that said a bunch of random English words, and he had no idea what it said but he signed it with still no idea to this day what it said! It had really got my interested but I continued to drink and rum and headed home with my income from the harvest to cherish my work with Greta and Joshua.

After living in an old, run down house for far too many years, I had undertaken the project of establishing a new and sturdy home for my family. It had taken much labor to build such a fine home but overall, I am very proud to say I am now the new home owner of such an established household. A huge step for the Goretzka family in America!

Hallo!

My name is Frank Goretzka and welcome to my personal blog! I am a 23 year old German farmer, happily married to my 19 year old wife, Greta. We immigrated to the great Pennsylvania Colony 3 years ago on the outskirts of Philadelphia, establishing ourselves as grain farmers. Greta and I just had our first child, Joshua, and are wanting another, preferably another boy to help carry on our farm later on in life. Greta and I were attracted to Pennsylvania due to the toleration of William Penn, allowing my family to be Lutherans without consequence and the rich, fertile land on which I could farm.
